Yeah but I see him looking to his left thinking “are you insane or what?”.

I’m voting Bernie in the primary. Old, socialist and dumb is an easy beat for Trump.

His millionaire status as a life long politician is exposed.

Bloomberg cannot have a repeat of that performance if he wants to stay in the game.

So Mike, how does it feel to get your *** handed to you by Elizabeth Warren—twice in one night?

I've probably mentioned this along the way, but Elizabeth Warren was my law school first year contracts professor, and being grilled like that is kind of how I recall the class feeling....

That's funny, but it's pretty accurate. Basically the entire group of candidates beat the hell out of him and took a piss on his face. I've never seen one guy ganged up on that hard. It was downright painful.

Here's the problem for Bloomberg. He shouldn't be a Democrat. He's far too conservative for the modern Party, and his record shows that. We hassle him about the idiotic soda ban, but overall, he was a conservative mayor and very conservative by NYC standards. He was fiscally conservative, business-friendly, and tough on crime. He also likes Jews and doesn't have a Howard Zinn view of the United States. Well, that simply isn't the modern Democratic Party, so he's having to backpedal and apologize for his success as mayor. Obviously, that looks insincere, because it is.

Another problem - Bloomberg would like to occupy the moderate lane of this race, but there really isn't one even if some pretend there is. Joe Biden and Amy Klobuchar (and to some extent Mayor Pete) are more conciliatory in their tones, but their record doesn't show substantial departures from the party orthodoxy. They haven't really been moderates the way, for example, Bill Clinton was. He supported welfare reform, signed a capital gains tax cut, expressed support for banning partial birth abortion, signed DOMA, and was receptive to entitlement reform. Those were major departures or certainly compromises from Democratic Party orthodoxy. I'm not hearing anything like that from anybody in this race, and to the extent that Biden and Klobuchar ever have moved away from or compromised from the party orthodoxy, they're backpedaling and apologizing for it now. If we analogized them with the GOP, they're like Ben Sasse or Mike Lee (nice-toned conservatives), not like Susan Collins or Lisa Murkowski (actual moderates who often break with the Party).

Finally, Bloomberg is everything Democrats hate about Trump. He's extremely rich - much more so than Trump. He shoots off his mouth and has insulted people in ugly ways. Bloomberg is politically incorrect in his rhetoric and has said some things about minorities and women that would offend the woke sensibilities of many Democrats. However, unlike Trump, Bloomberg is smug and doesn't have blue collar appeal. It's a bad combination in a Democratic primary or general election. What's weird about that is that Trump came from privilege and Bloomberg didn't. Bloomberg should be able to relate better to the working class, and maybe it's because of the business Trump was in, but he's much better at it.

I would like one of them to point out that Buttigieg cant win and then state why. Everyone knows why but they wont say it out loud. Someone should drop that bomb on the table for discussion.

This was the one way they could actually generate some TV audience. It will be interesting if they get a ratings bump for this one, and the next one as people from all over might turn in to see it become more interesting. However, I believe the next two are on Saturday Nights, which is not a good time slot for ratings. We will see.

That was very effective. To me, it was some good trial atty work. She was well prepped. And it seemed original too, not like she was memorizing something someone else wrote. Everyone agree on that? That is the sort of positioning that made her popular to begin with.

Is USSR-loving Bernie Sanders really going to be the Dem nominee now?
    Wow

This is the view from a Republican political consultant --
“If he’s the nominee, I don’t care if you’re running for dog catcher or Senate, every Republican is going to bend over backwards to tie their Democratic opponent to Bernie Sanders socialism and all the crazy stuff he supports.”
The Republicans' 2020 plan to turn every Democrat into a 'Bernie Bro'

Bloomberg got Ned Beatty-ed and there was no Burt Reynolds to come to his aid. I only saw a little of it, but it was plenty. Warren may have taken Mike's scalp but she came across as a real beyatch doing it. She reminds me of that crabby English teacher that was always on your *** in middle school. I agree that Trump was the real winner last night.

Speaking of NDAs, there was (and perhaps still is) a great opening there for someone like Buttigieg or Klobuchar to segway into a request to void the NDAs for all of the sexual harassment claims involving the US Congress. There is a lot of material there that has been covered up. With silence from the victims bought off with taxpayer money. Perhaps just argue for a release of the names, without all the unsavory details? I think the audience would respond well.

How would Warren respond to this? it would be very awkward for her to disagree given her position on Bloomberg, but she would presumably make enemies among colleagues if she endorsed it. I am not sure if Bloomberg could have worked it. But he needed some type of better response than he went into that with. He was not prepared well, despite all the spending (near $400M now).

So the DNC finds itself in an interesting position --

    (1) It currently maintains that the candidate who gets the most primary votes does not necessarily get to be the Democratic nominee for President
    but
    (2) Whoever gets the most votes in the general election should become President regardless of the electoral college

    Got it?

They did get a bump. Looks like 19.7 million on NBC and MSNBC combined.
The final numbers may vary somewhat but it should be a new record for a Dem debate, beating the one from last June.

The latest Quinnipiac polling for Wisconsin is out. Some say - so goes Wisconsin, so goes the election. This one shows Trump beating every Dem in Novem

    Trump (+11) v. Klobuchar
    Trump (+10) v. Warren
    Trump (+8) v. Buttigieg
    Trump (+7) v. Sanders
    Trump (+7) v. Biden

Trump won Wisconsin (10 electoral votes) in 2016 by only 0.77%.

Bloomberg is just another Ivy League egomaniac to me but Warren's supposed takedown was pretty lame when you think about it. In a thirty year stretch of representing corporations and insurance companies I had a hand in hundreds of non disclosure agreements and the usual reason was not to cover up the disputed liability but the amount paid.. Any corporation wants to keep that detail quiet in order to discourage others from doing the same and asking for the same money---even if it was just cost of litigation change.

Warren presumably knows that and was being dishonest-----at least I would hope she knows that.

And the agreement is between the claimant and the insurance company or corporation, not an individual, so Bloom couldn't waive it if he wanted to. Nice CS move by Warren, whom I dislike more day by day. Pocahontas will play dirty any chance she gets. Keep in mind that the most savage of the acts of her fellow native americans were committed by the women after the men won the battle.

It wasn't Rolling Stone, it was their political ahole Matt Taibbi, who is a certified left wing hit man. So the fact that he is hitting on the rich moderate should not be any shock to anybody. Now if he took after the Commie in the race or Pocahontas that might be a mild shock---an eyebrow raiser, if you will. But a rich guy who got the murder rate down by half by sending the Blues after the bloods? Not so much of a surprise.

the enthusiasm for Bloomberg, the bloomie boomlet if you will, was motivated by the terror on the part of moderate democrats at the prospect that the lemmings might take the party over the cliff for a communist, pocahontas or a gay mayor of a city only slightly larger than Victoria Texas. Panic set in and the ex mayor of a city many of the pundit class live in seemed like a safe haven.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

for people who care more about mass incarceration of people of color than they do about the murder rates for the those people he makes a good pinata.
