Just calling a spade a spade. All the times I have quoted (and bolded and underlined key words) refer to exactly what "you have said to deter" speak for themselves; either you have two different identities, or you refuse to see your own quotes thrown back at you time and time again for easy reference.

CDC made a pretty good WBB hire before he left TCU. Just sayin'...

You even use the sh*t emoji. lol. Well you come by your reputation honestly, I’ll give you that.

In a thread about who would be the next coach to leave I posted that it would depend on winning or losing upcoming games regardless of how much hindsight we have to offer. What was I thinking? She wins she stays. She loses she should go. What a radical, thread-disrupting concept.

What is happening on the court now is relevant and I would argue more relevant than what happened in previous seasons. However, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Meh. I would be concerned if a coach that actually had a good program followed her.

Just looking at the resume of Dawn Plitzuweit, it looks like she would be a fine improvement. She is making only $250k a year now so could easily be encouraged by a $500k to $750k offer. S Dakota lost the previous coach to Nebraska for approx $500k. She would not be the home run hire a lot of posters would like. However, I could easily be persuaded. Looks like she "can coach ball". That is one of the requirements near the top of my spreadsheet.

... intriguing choice and great record. But she's at a small, private Jesuit-founded college in a relatively remote area. The contrast between that geography/local culture and Austin and Texas is pretty extreme. BUT UNC and Penn State made a similar choice to replact Sylvia Hatchell and Coquese Washington with mid-major coaches/markets. :hookem:

Kelly Graves went to Oregon from Gonzaga. Fortier was an assistant for Graves.

Syracuse is playing at NC State right now on the ACC Network. First time for me to watch the 'Cuse play in a few years. Since I listed Syracuse head coach, Quentin Hillsman as someone who I'd consider if i were in the market for a new head coach, glad to get the chance to watch his team play. Didn't realize they were only 15-12 this season, so not as good as in past seasons, but he does have a tremendous recruiting class coming in next season.

This whole season I really thought it was more shaka smart that needed to go out of the coaches but I believe it's Aston who is now the coach who absolutely needs to go. I think shaka smart has saved his job for another season but Aston this is sad and it's time for a change. Hopefully our recruiting will go back up as well and everything works out for the good.

Great! You are correct, but as I've stated on Shaka threads, exactly whom, that is qualified and worth a damn, do you think will take the job?

The fact you think the checkbook won't be in play if Aston's contract is not renewed is mind boggling naive. Take a look at what's going on over at McCombs field with the #1 softball team in the country if you're not understanding what I'm talking about.

WHEE! Men’s basketball brought in almost $13 million last year or less than 6% of gross revenue. UNC men’s basketball brings in more than any other basketball program at almost $18 million. One home football game is good for $12-14 million. So, yes, I understand the checkbook, perhaps better than you.

It ain’t the cash keeping prospective coaches away. If you think it is, you are beyond naive.

    Have a nice life

A "fan" throwing shade at our program believing we can't get a quality replacement while bringing in UNC's finances into the discussion understands very little.

Getting a quality coach won’t be a problem. I think it’s a matter of Texas deciding what they want to be. Is finishing in a distant 2nd most years in the conference and winning a game in the tournament what you’re comfortable with being or do you think that the program can do more. Of course, these are all questions CDC will have to think about.

Folks expecting a "Mike White softball" type of hire for our women's hoops program might end up being very disappointed. White went on record after he was hired by Texas saying that he would have stayed at Oregon had the AD bumped his salary up to Top 5 nationally (and not necessarily needing to match/exceed Texas' offer). The AD wouldn't budge due to Mike having flirted with Arkansas a couple of seasons prior. The timing was just right for Texas; I have no idea who CDC would have hired had White passed on his offer (i vaguely recall that the rumor was the Kentucky head coach was next in line).

In women's hoops, schools like Miss. State and Louisville are not going to be outbid for their head coaches by Texas as they will do whatever it takes to keep those programs drawing huge crowds and advancing far in the tournament each season. So, unless a coaching candidate we want has ties to UT or the state of Texas, trying to convince a coach that Texas is a better job than they currently have is going to be a difficult sale. Coaches who have their programs vying for Final Fours each season, are happy with their job/home, have good relationships with their AD's, and are drawing good home crowds have no reason to jump ship for Texas just to have to rebuild our program.

The only P5 conference schools that might not have the money to prevent Texas from outbidding them for their head coaches are in the PAC 12; even then, we don't know if CDC is going to be willing to poay the $1 million + (more likely $1.25 - $1.5 million) it's going to take. Aston is earning in the $800k range.

To sum that up, there is no perfect coach out there who is a realistic candidate to accept the Texas job. If there were, someone would have named them already in this thread and there would be consensus from almost everyone.

I understand one helluva lot more about the situations of the finances than you do, not to mention the politics.

I used UNC because they are the bell cow for all of basketball, and still don’t bring in that much cash.

I would say I’m sorry you don’t understand, but I strongly suspect you do understand and either don’t want to accept the truth or don’t want it aired.

Until the candy truck arrives, I bid you a fond farewell.

What about an NBA coach like a Becky Hammon, Kara Lawson etc type? They don’t come in with HC experience of course but how much do they make as assistants in the NBA? I have no clue. Don’t have to deal with recruiting currently, so is it worth it? I’m just spitballin. If nobody can come up with a name, it kind of points to keeping Aston it would seem.

WE are not the ones that will decide, it's CDC... So...it really doesn't matter what names we do or do not come up with. If he is truly serious about this program, then Aston will be gone at the end of the year. If he keeps her, he doesn't care about womens' basketball.... It's really that simple!!!

It does not point to that at all.

Since CDC has not given Aston a contract extension (regardless if that's his choice or her choice) with only a few months remaining until her current contract expires, I trust that he has been doing his due diligence the last several months (year?) in screening potential replacement candidates.

If he does plan to renew/extend her contract (which i doubt), he did her zero favors waiting all this time and not making a public announcement about her future at Texas sooner; he will have crippled her recruiting efforts by having chosen to remain mum on the subject.

If nobody can come up with a name? This isn’t rocket science or Fermat’s theorem. Coaches get replaced all the time. That’s a huge part of any AD’s job. If they seriously think the program can’t do any better than Aston, then they aren’t trying and they don’t give a damn about WBB.

I guess I didn’t word it very well, but when I said “nobody can come up with a name” I was referring to all our expert posters on this thread not CDC. None of you experts have an answer.

There have been several names mentioned. But, at the end of the day, nobody truly knows where CDC is on this matter. If anyone does in fact know anything, they're not saying so.

It’s a bitter sweet situation. Shaka’s little run at the end of the season throws things into a dilemma. If he makes the tournament, he probably keeps his job, especially because his contract buyout is so expensive. If he keeps his job, Karen keeps her job. His record in recent years is worse and this season almost identical.

You can’t fire the woman if you keep the man who performs below her.

I don’t agree with this. This is oranges and apples. UT wouldn’t have to pay Karen a penny to make her go away, while Shaka has many millions still owed to him. The circumstances are very different.
