I haven't seen LSU's schedule but they will be hard-pressed to get 9 regular season wins.

I choose to look at our upside this year rather than to look at outcomes of previous years because each year is a different team.
    1) we have a good, well-rounded super experienced QB.
    2) a different scheme on defense that will facilitate a better pass rush. More pressure will cause more chaos.
    3) very experienced secondary.
    4) improved linebacker Corp with Overshown there. He got speed
    5) this may seem a little silly but perhaps a few less injuries in the secondary.
    6) I think our defenders will be in a better position to tackle, rather than chasing, IMO
    7) Bijan may make an impact though he is unproven.
    8) we do lose a couple good receivers, especially Duvernay, but we do have strong talent with Whit, Eagles and Smith.
    9) no team wants to face this powerhouse team.

I didn't say I agree with the excuses, Nellie Negative.
    Just say they exist.
Unless the Horns lose 6 or more games next year I think this reboot gives Herman another 2 to 3 years to accomplish something.
I too am frustrated watching other coordinators step in and turn things around for other teams in one season.
    We have the talent.
Should win at least ten next year. (including bowl)

Yes, but with a couple of breaks in the other direction we could have gone 9-3 instead.

and there would not have been the staff turnover so which did you want? Could the prior staff lead the team to the CFP in 2020 or 2021?

    4. Nope, we have hopes and wishes, but this is the weak spot on defense.
    5. More tackles by the front 4 equals less by the secondary which means less chance at injury.
    6. Probably, but we won't know until the games are played.
    7. No pressure on Bijan, we have a healthy Ingram and Robinson to take the pressure off of him.

    9. As of today, I can hear the laughter from all over the Big 12, but come fall, you might be right.

I will have only one excuse for game(s) we lose, "We were out played."

As long as one of those wins is over aggy, then they had a good season.

Oh, I get that line of thinking, but personally I can't ever be glad that we lost.

But I was getting at with my response was that it's not really accurate to claim that our W-L record was misleading and base that claim on the fact that some of the wins were close.

I’ve said this 100 times since mid season.....But I truly believe massive injuries cost us 3 losses last year. If the new D scheme keeps our secondary healthy and we get more pressure too. Hell that’s worth 2-3 more wins in 2020. If Sam stays healthy and J Whit, Bijan prove to be real weapons on O. Then I can see 10-2, 11-1. But 10-2 regular season seems realistic right now. I’m most worried about OSU and maybe Baylor? We got OU, I hope. LSU is a toss up. We should win though. I am optimistic about next year but more cautious than one year ago looking at 2019 season. Injuries will swing the season one way or the other by perhaps 2 games. We’ll find out in the fall.

Disagree on the 3 losses caused by injuries part.

TCU and ISU were scheme losses and not injury-related losses because, with the right defensive scheme, Texas had enough team talent to handle those two despite the injuries on defense. The ou and Baylor losses were total team clusters with the LSU game decided by a defensive offsides late in the game.

I don't want to make any excuses for losses, we lost and that is enough for me. I'm all in on 2020 and us winning every game. There is no reason why we shouldn't.

I want to see Texas put their foot on the throat of teams and absolutely crush them, I want to see us put 60+ on everyone we play. Nothing less than a conference championship next year.

I don't discount injuries on derailing our season, that might be the only excuse. Now with that said. I feel like Tom Herman and his death camp in August along with the horrible scheme we ran of defense that basically nullified our dline were the biggest causes for injuries.

Tom thinks that by wearing out his team in August he will make them stronger in October. Wow, I can't say how flawed this line of thinking is. Tom needs to use his Mensa head and quit trying to be Bear Bryant at Junction and start working on proper preparation of his players. That means have them peaking by game day and not coming up lame because he wore them out like a 2 dollar ***** on payday.

I suppose we will find out details about fall camp in July/August and go from there. He is still learning on the job. He was 41 when we hired him and for this era of College Football at Texas, that’s young. He still has learning and subsequent adjustments to make. Yes, he needs to adjust fall camp somewhat but I can’t get specific there. I have seen him adjust a lot of things. We’ll see what happens.
