43-21 osu over the horns at the half. I am not exaggerating, that was the worst half of BB I’ve seen the horns play this year—and that’s saying something. Offense stunk, defense stunk.
Came out flat and thinking they'd already secured a tournament spot. So all plans fail and they resort to the wild shooting to play catch-up. Just awful prep going in to this one.
If Shaka had any dignity he would resign right now. How in the hell can you have a team so poorly prepared at home for the most important game of the season?
I am sorry for the players but I hope we do NOT get into the NCAA's---if there was any doubt, CDC should've seen it today!! Friends of mine there at the game said it was electric, more people than usual (which is sad in itself), and (to quote my friend there) "they laid an egg!" Damn, just like my tenure on the 40 with Kaiser Bob Weltich---disappointing!!
of course they they were blown out. Nobody on this board or in the arena is shocked. This IS what we expect under Shaka ball.
Crapping the bed when everything is front of you, just so par for the course for Shaka coached teams. With every win in the 5 game streak I kept thinking when do they revert to the mean, today they did. I am surprised at how disappointed I am, I knew this was coming it was just a matter of time but I was really hoping for more from this team and that they had actually turned a corner.
This wasn't the worse game I've seen in person this year...it was likely the worse game I've ever seen in person (and I had season tickets for 5 years). The score was 20-5 in the first 3 minutes. That's like 6.6 points a minute. Luckily OkState didn't keep that clip up or they would have scored nearly 200 points. It was tough to watch after the recent run of wins. It was just plain tough to watch. They were never competitive the entire game. Oh well.
Show me a team that was so uninspired that they rarely contested those shots. oSu looked like they were doing a shoot around in warmups.
Ask yourself how one of the worst teams in the conference shot over 60% on the road. Especially when Shaka went out and hired a "defensive specialist" coach. The reality is we shot 19 of 54 fg and 5 of freaking 29 from three point land. We missed FIVE basically layups in the first 10 minutes. No, Shaka isn't playing the game but the results are his responsibility. I said a few days ago the five game run is not the norm over his five years. What happened yesterday is.
They looked tired to me. Remember half the team is injured. They played lights out and over their head for five games, including road games, with little rotation. OSU had one of those games where one player hit everything he threw up from anywhere on the court. Our defense just wasn't there like it had been over the last five games. Just no legs left. Get a little rest and win a B12 tourney game or two. Maybe get an invite to the dance. Who knows.
OSU was on either a 3- or 4-game win streak coming in, plus we faced a team with their best shooting night in probably the last decade if not longer. And had one of our worst if not the worst at 17% from 3. The players were tired and OSU was incredibly lucky at the start of the game, which created a perfect storm for a poor performance. Shaka isn’t missing shots.
Shaka isn't really doing anything except bragging on his "process" on his radio show. How did your process work yesterday Shaka? He needs to be fired.
Rick Barnes faced FAR MORE criticism for his last 5 years which were a better 5 years than Shaka's 5 years. Barnes went to the NCAA Tournament 4 times, won two tournament games and went 48-40 in Big XII play. Shaka Smart has gone to the NCAA Tournament 2 times (if he is lucky this year, maybe 3), won 0 tournament games and has gone 40-50 in Big XII play. In Rick Barnes' 5th year, he took Texas to the final four. In Shaka Smart's 5th year, he may miss the NCAA Tournament AGAIN! Smart is also being paid far more than Barnes (or Penders) ever was to do less with more than Barnes did in the 5 year run that got Barnes fired! Defending Shaka's c*** coaching is absurd! We fired Barnes to "raise the standards for Texas Basketball" and instead have lowered them for Shaka Smart.
I’m not defending Shaka. I said only that he can’t help his team shooting 17% from 3. Some might argue he should coach for better shot selection. I can’t comment on the quality of the shots yesterday. I’m also making the point that when a team shoots like OSU did yesterday, there’s not much a coach can do. I saw a bunch of prayers going in for them. I don’t want Shaka as the coach, but the criticism being hurled at him for yesterday’s game has so far been off the mark. Give OSU players credit (or call them lucky) for shooting lights out, and place blame for our putrid shooting performance on the people that actually shot the ball.
What's he supposed to do when there's no healthy players to rotate in for relief. At this point he's playing what's left and hoping for the best.
