Not sure they could do much about the latter. As to the former, how many teams have backup QBs good enough to let a quality starter walk without being worried? Just 2 or 3?
Dak seems to be in the annoying QB mid-level gray zone where if he were just a little worse you would just try someone else, and if he were just a little bit better you would feel great about paying him. However, there's a reason that the teams paying their QB $30+ million/year aren't winning many Super bowls.
The thing is, he's got a lot of intangibles that you won't necessarily replace even if you find someone with a stronger arm and better accuracy. He's mature, he's a hard worker, he's a great leader who his teammates respect, etc.
