Tom Dempsey, Record-Setting Kicker, Dies at 73.

    Tom Dempsey was born without toes on his right foot, but spent 11 seasons in the N.F.L. and kicked 159 field goals. He died of complications of the coronavirus. He kicked a record 63 yard field goal against Detroit in 1970, the longest ever at that time. Dempsey also suffered from dementia.

    I remember Art Donovan on Johnny Carson talking about the kick.

    "We thought it was a joke." When asked if he tried to block it, "No, a rushed through to get a better view of the attempt".
