I hope she follows Vic here to Texas. That would be a huge get for us. I do find it funny because yesterday she retweeted a post from another Mississippi state player stating something like " the only players I play for" with a picture of the team

I read somewhere that Bibby had made it known before Vic was hired by UT that she intended to enter the transfer portal. My guess is that Sidney Cooks' becoming eligible and the fact that Vic had planned to move Rickea Jackson outside (like he did with Vivians) may have figured into her decision.

Question for @Moooooo would Cooks have to sit out another year if, hypothetically, she decided she didn't want to be at Mississippi State now that there's been a coaching change?

I do not believe since she has not technically even become eligible yet

Re transfers, if a current player for MSSU wants to follow Coach Vic to UT would they be eligible to play immediately or have to sit for a year? Also are signees released from their commitment and free to open the recruiting process again?

Transfer rules apply, but could apply for a waiver for coaching change... Don't know if it would be approved or not.

Typically incoming recruits get released from their LOI if they request such release, and can re-open recruitment. That's how we were able to get Destiny Littleton when the USC coach she signed with was no longer there.

So, neither Karisma Ortiz (Penn State) nor Evina Westbrook (Tennessee) were granted a waiver for immediate eligibility last season even though the head coaches at their previous schools were fired. So, I don't think any MSU player would get a waiver for immediate eligibility simply because their head coach quit.

For Cooks, i believe she played her freshman season at Michigan State. Then had to sit out this past season at Miss. State. If she were to transfer again, I suspect she'd have to sit out another season at new school, plus she'd lose one year of eligibility as a S-A only gets 5 years in school to compete in athletics 4 seasons.

I think that she would be eligible immediately actually because she has still not become academically eligible at MSU yet.

But by all accounts, this is going to be a moot point because the rules committee is set to approve the one time transfer rule

Do you mean she doesn't have the required coursework or GPA for her classification? Maybe I'm misunderstanding why you used the word "academically".

Wouldn't she still have to "transfer" again from Miss. State, though, if she wanted to enroll at a different school? And, by "transfer" I mean put her name in the portal, fill out the required documents, transfer her academic credits, etc.? That sounds like a transfer to me . . . :p

The one time transfer won’t be implemented until the 2021-22 season according to recent reports.

I meant athletically. My apologies for the fat fingers lol. I’ll have to look later, but I know this has happened before

Charli Collier started following Destiny Slocum on twitter; might not be a big deal.

Slocum recently started following coaches at UCLA and North Carolina, and Adia Barnes of Arizona.

This would certainly be big in all sports, but definitely would help Vic in season one at Texas if this passes, and he can lure some elite talent to Texas with 3 'open ships for 2020-21.

It would be equivalent to the good fortune softball head coach Mike White encountered when the transfer portal was created a few months after his hiring.

MSU asst. coach Elena Lovato started following Duke grad-transfer guard, Kyra Lambert (San Antonio) a while back on twitter; and, Lambert is following her.

That close to the start of school it most likely wouldn’t be implemented until 2021.

That's reasonable. But, when in 2021? January 1? That could still allow mid-season transfers in hoops and for the other Spring sports like men's baseball which don't currently grant immediate eligibility to transfers.

Guess it could be effective in late May 2021 if they don't want it to impact the upcoming season in women's hoops, men's hoops, football, and baseball.

Supposedly, Penn State transfer, 6'4 Lauren Ebo was all set a few days ago to announce she would be transferring to Miss. State. But, no announcement came as Vic accepted our open position.

Looks like Ebo is following TexasWBB on twitter. That's a start!

NOTE: I forgot about the connection she and our current redshirt transfer, Karisma Ortiz may have had since Ortiz was a freshman at PSU the same time as Ebo.

Mississippi State G Jayla Hemingway, 2018-2019 Tennessee HS Player of the Year, entered the portal before Vic left and has landed in the Big12. What makes WVU such a hot spot for transfers? Certainly not the location, winning tradition or education reputation.

I’ve often wondered this myself, especially when Esmery Martinez decommitted from us and signed with them last year. Carrey doesn’t seem like the easiest coach to play for either.

He does look like he's hard to play for. Personally I'm not one to get my feelings hurt easily AT ALL, but I wouldn't take lightly to all his excessive yelling and hell-raising. Funny thing is, myself and another friend both have noticed that those young ladies seem to really like him and they play hard for him.

In my opinion, the two biggest SCREAM-AT-YOUR-OWN-PLAYERS coaches in the Big 12 are Carey of WVU and Bill Fennelly of Iowa State. But, words from their players indicate they love playing for them.

Everyone except their best two players have announced they are returning. Hopefully we can get Rickea Jackson or Jessika Carter.

Take Carter off the list. I don't think neither of them will be leaving Mississippi state. Only player we have a chance of getting is chloe bibby.
