He is going to Kstate. It's kind of obvious at this point. We need to look into some transfers. I don't know who shaka is speaking with but I know we need one more piece to complete this puzzle:hookem:

Actually win. I know everyone is upset or doubtful about shaka coming back but I do think since everyone is returning things will be different. You add Greg Brown to the mix and it adds a much needed scorer and defender. I guess it's just me but I have high hopes for all Texas sports in 2020-2021. I think football will do very well as well as volleyball, women's basketball, softball, baseball, swimming, tennis, soccer so I just couldn't leave out men's basketball. High hopes for everyone this upcoming year :hookem:

I would imagine its going to be really tough to find someone to take that job. Not a mystery he's done after next year.

I don't think that Greg Brown not committing to UT will cost Shaka his job. I don't know of any coach who lost a job due to a player not committing.

If Shaka loses his job it will be because he does not win. His record at Texas does not reflect the talent and opportunity for wins that he's had. Many coaches miss out on tier 1 talent and still win. Check Beard at TTU.

Ultimately, its on Shaka to coach better. A lot better. Win with the players he has.

I should have worded what I said better. What I meant was without Greg Brown I don't see this team looking any different than previous years and if Shaka does not win with the people he has then he will be gone as in Greg Brown could be the one to turn the program around. I didn't mean to say if Brown does not commit to Texas than that will cost Shaka his job. We desperately need Greg Brown to come to Texas. Not trying to sound like a groupie or desperate but we really do need him.

This seems to be happening more & more. There were rumors about Greg Brown doing the same thing which I hope is not true.

And the trend continues. It makes me even more nervous with Greg Brown's commitment.

Why would you be worried about whether he comes here or not? Remember lottery pick Mohamed Bamba? He was a program changer too. #2 overall recruit, 13 ppg, 10 rpg and had 111 blocked shots. Shaka did have one of his better years here finishing 19-15.

Shaka has had so much wasted talent on this team he has proven it doesn't matter if Brown comes or not. We'll win 15-19 games with or without him.

Well I have hope in this team especially after that run they had toward the end of the season. It may be me because I am the type of fan who supports the team regardless. I can't judge someone off past seasons. It's a new season, new year so all that hate I had during this season is gone and I start fresh. If greg brown commits then I think this team will be a 22-12 type team and if they don't win then Greg brown will be a top pick regardless and shaka will be gone so I see no reason to not support and talk down on them before the season begins.

These guys should take advantage of every opportunity the NBA gives as the one-and-done stuff is relaxed. Then, we'll finally start recruiting players who can actually contribute. Especially the tweener-shooter types that we've been lacking for years, like Brandon Mouton.

I feel they may have been very good had they not lost Andrew Jones early in the year. They did beat OU and Tre Young twice that year. That year was probably the most watchable for Shaka Smart basketball.

I sincerely admire your ability to black out the past and start fresh every year with hopes and optimism. That's not easy to do.

Regarding the above quote, people get hired and fired every day because of past performance. That's also how pay raises are determined. Evaluating the past is the only indicator of how the future will pan out.

I'm a numbers guy who looks at trends on a daily basis to project how things might pan out over the coming days and weeks. Trends change but almost never do you see sustained fast spikes up and down. That's exactly how I evaluate coaching as well and Shaka has proven year in and year out that his organizations will have virtually the same results. There will be short bursts of success followed by short drops, but the end result is similar.

I wish I could have the faith you have we will have a great season, but I now go into every season with Shaka predicting mediocrity and every year he has delivered that no matter who is on the team. Also please don't assume because I don't support Shaka that I don't support the team. Too many around here think both are the same and it's not.

Good post. I'm probably one of the more critical basketball fans on this board. I attended a ton of games growing up, including SWC tournament games, every home game as a student, a couple games per season as an alum, and a handful of NCAA tournament games if they were reasonable enough to travel to. I friggin' love Texas basketball, nearly at the same level as football.

The whole "doing the same thing and expecting a different result" applies to Smart more so than Barnes or Penders. At least Barnes and Penders seemed to understand what they were working with. They definitely deserved criticism for how Texas played some games/years, but I never felt like we couldn't recover and get back to "what worked" with them. I have that feeling on a game-by-game basis with Smart. And it's been 5 seasons of that. A well-below .500 conference record? That's reserved for... you know... Aggies or something. Coronavirus and his buyout are saving his job for now. We need an organizational shift.

Very well said. Although I have hope and am expecting more this upcoming season if Shaka does not land Greg Brown then I don't think that this will be a big winning season. Not saying one player makes an entire team but he is dearly needed. Since this Virus has happened even if Texas were to have an awful season Shaka will not be going anywhere as it will be millions and in our current state we can't afford it.

If I see myself as a one-year college player. I'd take six figures and the G League all day long and twice on Sunday.
