It’s all but official for Elena Lovato. Her twitter page now has “UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS WBB ASSISTANT COACH/RECRUITING COORDINATOR”, a link to texassports.com and she has retweeted quite a few messages from Texas WBB and player related news.
Key words I saw were "stay with this staff" which means the entire staff! So excited to see how these amazing coaches develop and recruit.
Played all 4 years at MSU. Started in a lot of games even as a freshman. Dominique Dillingham - Women's Basketball - Mississippi State A product of Klein Collins HS in the Houston area.
Gang’s all here officially... Dionnah’s twitter profile is still all Mississippi State - sooner is probably putting off adding burnt orange as long as she can.
Happy for so many different reasons. The cohesion of the staff, and knowing that they have had success together at MSU, are such huge pluses. All seem to be good coaches, and good to great recruiters.
Vic’s statement to the AAS about his coaches: “The first thing that comes to mind is that this is the A-Team,” Schaefer said in a statement. “They’re the best in the business. We’re family. We’ve done so much together and had so much success together. They’re not only great coaches, but great role models and mentors for our young players. They’re not only going to represent The University of Texas in the best way possible, but they’re going to be great in our community. For me, as I’ve always said, I’m smart enough to know that I can’t do it by myself. This is a tremendous staff and we’re very lucky to have them all here.”
For a staff with so much success under its belt, I think it’s extremely impressive that they’re all coming to Texas with Vic because I’m sure there’s opportunities out there. Says a LOT about Vic and also a great reflection on Texas as well. So exciting!
Coach Vic is a type A "get er done" type of person. This start to his Texas career is the most excitement since Coach G was hired. The problem is Coach G did nothing and cut so many Texas ties. What we have here is a wholesale rebuilding of the team, staff, and attitude in a couple of weeks. I know he said, he did not have a chance to look at the team other than a couple of players, but I think he was just being nice. He knew what he needed and he quickly moved to try to get the missing pieces. Coach Vic wanted to see a tone for recruiting and excellence. He knew what happens could cause a snowball effect or could turn into that long rebuilding. Softball showed how it could be done quickly. Vic did his own version of it here and he is not done yet. I loved Coach Aston's personal attitude, but it never really translated into the community. This is so different and so exciting.
I think it's absolutely wonderful that we are all excited and hopeful. It's amazing what a change in coaching and culture can do for the psyche of so many. Prior to Coach Schaefer's hire, I don't think anyone on this board really believed we even had a shot at being consistently relevant, much less elite (although some wanted to). With this hiring, and the subsequent personnel moves by Coach Schaefer and his staff, you are witnessing someone who actually KNOWS how to get it done. They are laying the necessary foundation to take this program back where it belongs.....and this is just the beginning. Exciting times for all of us who love Texas WBB~~~
Glad some people made the cut—Zack and Heidi are still around. Is that typical or no that support staff, such as these, remain in a coaching change? New coaches discretion?
Interesting that the athletic trainer and ‘admin associate’ haven’t changed. Zillner still being listed on staff doesn’t really surprise me. By the way, the listing for Coordinator of Player Development has been removed so I wouldn’t be surprised if Blair is announced in that role soon. Only ‘Basketball’ posting left is WBB Director of Basketball Operations and Vic’s Miss St. DBO isn’t on social media from what I can tell so no clues there.
