Likely a preseason Top 15 team, the Longhorns welcome back senior signal caller Sam Ehlinger with the Big 12's best talent on defense. According to ESPN’s conference title predictor, Oklahoma has a 41 percent chance to win the Big 12, followed by Texas (39 percent), Oklahoma State (9 percent) and TCU (6 percent).

"The toughest conference race to call is the Big 12,” Edwards said. "FPI isn’t saying Texas is back, but it does see the Longhorns as a worthy challenger to Oklahoma."

Breaking down ESPN's FPI conference title predictions

This should be called How Texas makes the CFP.
    Spoiler alert: By going undefeated.

This concentrates on 3 games: LSU, OU and OSU and what Texas must do to win each. One interesting insight is the narrator thinks UT cannot afford any trap game defeats or Herman gets fired. I rather think if Texas wins conference, Herman gets extended by one year.

The case for 10-2 based on FPI #11 ranking.

I believe Texas is stronger than LSU and it should be around 58 percent to win that game! ....yes sir:smokin:
And just the fact that what's his name DC and his gambling style, late blitzing defense won't be around. Plus we have a 4 year QB.

Since if they play at all, they probably will be playing in an empty stadium it will be interesting.

I am still holding out for a Spring schedule. Possible if there is a vaccine by January 2021.

As a side note, a commentator said no football season would wreck the PAC12 with insolvency for the lesser schools.

    Define “lesser schools”

Everyone not named Stanford or USC?

30 seconds into this video he says Texas basically gave up on the season after the LSU loss. That was enough listening for me

Pretty much everyone but the private schools.

OR and WA will have to make choices. Maybe the "State" teams will go elsewhere. CA and Utah might have difficult choices also. CO is not in great shape.

While the team did not give up, there was not an as healthy team again until TTU or Utah.

The rally to dominate against a better Utah team was very important. The Utah line was basically 315 to 340 between the ends. The skill players were very good. The defense lead the NCAA in several categories. Texas by any measure should have lost.

Stats never tell the whole story. Texas had a lot of injuries for the majority of the year, guys who healed up for the bowl game. Couple that with the fact that Utah faced a lot of overrated talent while Texas faced a lot of underrated talent.

Texas winning came as a surprise to anyone who just looks at stats to determine the outcome.

Certainly not likely, but very slightly possible. Another major spike would set progress back substantially. In Austin, people are still concentrating on isolation. The only dissidents seem to be the immortal under thirties and certain others that crawl out from under rocks to attend demonstrations at the Capitol with no social distancing and no face masks or gloves. Hope they are soon out of the gene pool by Fall.

Working out to have a higher death rate per capita than its immediate neighbors. I think Belgium is still the highest rate per capita in the EU.

I’m betting there is no college football this year and that means an undefeated season, just like on LHN

    Ok, call me delusional...

Never before in history, and certainly not at a time when technology is so advanced, has there been an obsessive global effort to come up with effective treatments, a cure, and a vaccine. And never before have governments or companies, or both, funded the production of millions of doses of unproven and perhaps even untested vaccines, in advance. So I am bullish on the availability of a vaccine by December, but that’s just me.

The other wild card is how the virus will look in a month or in six months. It could get worse, or it could spontaneously dissipate. Call me crazy, but no one really knows.

So, I’m bullish on a 2020 season, even if it starts in mid-January.

So if there are no college football games played this year, which SEC team will be awarded the national championship?

...something tells me that Sam beats LSU and o.u.
...TCU is a home game and think we handle them...
...OSU is there and they were getting better and might be our loss...

I'm thinking 11-1....and winning the Big 12 (that only has ten members)

Remember the two top teams in the Big 12 have to play in the CCG. So, 11-1 will not win the Big 12 if all games are played.

The most suspect of those calls is TCU IMHO. Think we handle them again at home motivated by retribution for an ugly loss last year in Ft Worth.

My bold prediction, Texas ends the regular season 11-1 with the only loss to OSU. OSU finally beats blowu and we face them again in the Big 12 championship where Texas wins to go 12-1 and into the playoffs where we face Ohio State team that beats us 41-38.
