34 consecutive running plays starting around 24:00 mark. Bettis & co. running roughshod.

It's funny how often and how expected the trash talking was back then. Any and all of those instances would draw flags today.

Bettis was hot about that late or at least pretty close to late hit on the TD run. Still can’t believe they ran the ball 34 straight times

Whew, just glad they pulled it out. I route for anyone against A&M, even the Irish!

IIRC the aggys were famous for second half collapses back in the day.

Remember in 2003 when we beat them 46-15 and only threw 8 passes?

Only 2 pass attempts in the 2nd half, and neither of them completed. VY's last completed pass of the day was a 1-yard quick out to Roy early in the 2nd quarter.

I honestly believe that hurt us a little going into the Holiday Bowl. We knew we could run roughshod all over A&M and did it with very little resistance, but then we had no "live" experience going against a defense that was known for man press coverage and weird stunts/blitzes to keep our QB shuffle off guard. We should have stuck with the run that day but got down and then threw way too much. Mock wasn't prepared well. Neither was our run defense.

I think we learned a lot about "what not to do" going into 2004. It gave us resilience going up to Fayetteville, and when absolutely NOTHING was working against Mizzou at home, VY caught that long pass, Benson put us on his back, and the rest of the season kind of fell into place. The comeback against OK State was the loudest DKR had been in years. VY scrambling on 4th and 18 against KU. The Rose Bowl win.

I sure miss the great offenses of Slocum.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

2004 vs. Okie Lite was one of the loudest I personally experienced at DKR and that was AFTER many fans left prior to half and Okie up 35-7 or maybe it was 35-14... getting old and don't remember.

*** I think some fans did return after they first left.

Sorry, the Irish is where I draw the line... I'd pull for a$m, Russia, Red China or Iran vs. Notre Dame.

They are intolerable as it is. Can you imagine if they had beaten the vaunted Irish and finished in the top 5? :whiteflag:

I TOTALLY understand and can imagine the insufferable aggy chest beating that would have lasted for decades but I have my standards :deadhorse:

They didn't have a case to win it above Alabama. Even if they had pulled it off against ND, if any pollsters gave A&M the #1 ranking over them, it would have been a joke.

OSU was up 35-7 at one point. Texas scored less than 10 seconds before halftime and it was 35-14 at the break.
The momentum from that TD carried over into the 3rd quarter, when Texas scored only about three minutes in to make it a two-score game with 27 minutes left to play. At that point, it was on.

Coming back from 35-7 is unusual enough. Coming back from 35-7 to win by 21 points is even more impressive. Texas accomplished that with 7:22 to spare, then cleared the bench.

I remember the old saying that a Longhorn fan cheered for Texas any team playing ND. ND vs. aTm would be a tough choice. Maybe a 0-0 tie?

I hate A&M first, ND second. To me A&M is as bad as it gets in College Football.

You are correct. The Horn's scored right at the end of the half to make the score 35-14. Okie Lite cratered in the second half, and our crowd was extremely loud in the second half!

Yeah, my son and I had seats in the East side upper deck, south end, by a lot Okie Lite fans. They like to jingle their keys for some odd reason.

They were really whooping it up the first half... they settled down pretty good when the Horns came out the second half and scored on first drive to cut their lead to 35-21. Many poke fans started leaving when the Horns took the lead for good.

Biggest comeback in UT history.... down 35-7 at one point and won IIRC: 52-35. My son has a photo of the final score on the scoreboard.

I was flying to Banff, Alberta the day of the Ok St game 04’. At the layover in DFW we were down 7-35. When we landed in Calgary and driving to Banff I got the final and was floored! Couldn’t believe it. VY and Ced!

Fiancee (now wife) had a function at the Dallas Museum of Art that night. She has to set up/tear down while I was in Austin, so I was running interference with the caterers and what-not. So I ran across the street when it was still early in the game and watched until halftime while I was calling/emailing lots of different people. Called fiancee and said "we scored right before the half so I think if they can work some magic I'll stay until the game's out of reach." Little did I know that I would stay until the game was out of reach for THEM and not us.

Ramonce's reverse for TD that tied the game up might be the loudest I had heard a crowd get for one play since the 1990 UH game. MAYBE Ricky's record run against A&M, but that crowd had way more Aggies than the 2004 OK State game had Cowboy fans. Maybe Mike Jones' TD against Nebraska in 1999.

Still have never talked to anyone who admitted to leaving before halftime in that one.

I left and came back, does that count? I actually ended up leaving for good with about 4 minutes left in the 4th Q so that I could make my way back to Dallas before 1 am.

As we were strolling through downtown Hinsdale, IL this morning, we struck up a conversation with a guy who is now the color analyst for the Vikings radio broadcasts. Pete Bercich. He also is in this video on defense quite a bit for the Domers. #47.

Very nice guy. Look forward to hanging out with him and asking him about this game.
