I didn't actually hear her interview. I know about it from listening to the Chip Brown podcast with Vic in the other thread. At the 21:45 mark Chip mentions Kim's interview on local Waco radio and the shade she threw about Sam Houston. Vic can not stop laughing. She is so ridiculous.

In the thread "Articles and Interviews", look for a reference about Mulkey. Basically, the interviewer said, "Coach, Kim Mulkey was interviewed by [local radio station?] and she said...." Vic talks about it and laughs it off. But the fact that he knows his total record against her, across multiple schools, means he keeps her in mind.

Well at least she confirmed they are looking at the portal everyday for a final piece for the upcoming season.

Good. Fuel for the desire to kick their arse. Vic isn’t gonna settle for a team that rolls over. But, I like that he’s always quick to point out that Texas can’t afford to put all their angst and focus on the university of waco.

I sense a much different dynamic between Mulkey and Schaefer than was had with Aston. I always thought Mulkey was irritated that Aston might challenge Baylor. But didn’t really feel it would happen. And was dismissive of Aston. I just sense Schaefer will challenge and threaten Mulkey and she knows his success can be real and sustainable. They both will downplay it for now. But the matches will be testy. It may be the second year before it gets nasty in Wacko. If Mulkey trash talks our players in the future, nasty might be an understatement. Fun to think about.

It is my hope the games between Baylor and Texas will become the premier must-watch rivalry in women's basketball, supplanting previous Connecticut-Tennessee, and more recently Connecticut-Notre Dame before the Irish left for the ACC. It'll be good for the women's game, outstanding for the Big 12, and better for Texas high school girls basketball.

Out of this I think both Mulkey and Schaefer will have a respectful and healthy relationship because they're cut from a similar cloth, both are old school coaches who preach defense. At least it can't get worse than the Aston-Mulkey relationship. I'm looking forward to this.

Elena Lovato media availability session. Describes how they target/recruit players, practices.

This could be a result of the pandemic situation or just the new coaching staff‘s approach but I am 99% sure we’ve heard more from this new group of assistant coaches in the 7 weeks since Vic was hired than in the previous 8 years combined. I’m not trying to disparage the previous coaching staff because we’ve all read plenty of that already and it’s time to move forward with Vic & Co. I just appreciate the level to which all of the coaches are trying to maintain the enthusiasm that their hiring has brought.

My thoughts exactly! You can't tell the difference between the head coach & assistant coaches. I just love how invested they are into Texas.

It was Dionnah Jackson-Durrett’s turn to talk to Craig Way. After being asked about having Kyra to play PG and possibly having Celeste play a few minutes at the point, she brought up Joanne Allen-Taylor’s qualities & abilities and how they had recruited her at Miss State. Reminded me that even though she was ranked in the 50s, she had offers from at least half of the teams regularly in the Top 10.

I was pleasantly surprised that someone on the coaching staff brought up someone not named Celeste or Charli. If I were the other girls I’d be starting to wonder if they even knew my name.

I liked what she had to say about Joanne. I really feel like JAT is a fit for Vic’s system and it was nice to see she agrees with me.

Charli, Celeste and Kyra have been mentioned the most but Elena brought up Issy and Karisma in other interviews. Vic and Johnnie have also talked about Lauren, Deyona, Elyssa and Precious.

I think because of the lockdown that these new coaches had nothing they could do other than call recruits, do all these interviews with media outlets and watch hour after hour of last year's games.

Ironically, this means they've seen and analyzed more of bit players like Izzy than they would normally see during Spring workouts.

I had forgotten that Joanne was recruited by Mississippi St. I have been waiting to hear the coaches mention her. I agree Tempest that Joanne should do great with this staff. In games, you can see how she comes in and plays with such great energy no matter the situation. She began to show her shooting ability last year. She also did not turn the ball over as much as other Longhorns!

I was referring to the current roster. I have watched most of the interviews and don't remember or maybe I didn't see that one with Elena. It's fine and not that big of a deal. Celeste and Charli will certainly be the stars.

Seems this confirms the rumor that another of Vic’s former players, PG Jazzmun Holmes, will be joining him as his Grad assistant:

The Director of Basketball Operations job posting has disappeared from the UT jobs site so it looks like the last position on Vic's coaching/support staff has been filled. It will be interesting to see who ultimately got the job after it had been posted for 2+ months.
