    ... for personal reasons.

Due to unfortunate situations I will not be playing another snap for the University of Texas . Has nothing to do with anyone or anything . Please respect my decision.

Junior CB Anthony Cook says he won’t play another snap at Texas

Unfortunate. I liked his enthusiasm and energy. I hope he solves the issues he faces.

That’s too bad. He had a lot of upside not realized yet. Best of luck.

I hope he's just blowing off steam over something that ticked him off and he'll stay.

Brayden Liebrock liked Cook's tweet. He was the only one, before it was taken down

Herman‘s tenure has been unnerving to say the least. There’s been unrest in that locker room since he started, and unless he’s completely different behind closed doors I can totally see why. He stresses accountability to the players and then equivocates at post-game pressers following losses, refusing to admit he could’ve made a better coaching decision. People defend him by comparing him to Saban, but IMO Saban is more likable and most importantly he’s a respected, more-than-accomplished Hall of Fame coach. If Herman hasn’t been underachieving nobody would care.

I think it was Beau Trahan who said that Mack Brown could convince him to eat a ketchup popsicle. I wasn’t around for DKR’s coaching years but he seemed affable in interviews in his later years. Herman’s personality (from what I’ve seen) is the antithesis of this quality shared by UT’s two most successful coaches. I don’t think he has what it takes to get UT back to the top. Hope I’m wrong, but this year is the litmus test.

Disagree, Herman is the right guy. All programs have this sort of thing. I'm happy to give him time to bring us back.

My post is about his tenure, not just this incident, which might be confusing given the thread title. Just out of curiosity, what makes you think Herman is the guy? Like I said, I hope he is but it’s kind of blind faith at this point.

    OO,

I give him credit for winning four BIG games out of a total of 40 games, but he has lost twice that many that should have been wins. For me, most troubling is his lack of relationships with TEXAS HS coaches, and the fact that seems to be getting worse.

I have posted often that the fact that Aranda refused to come to Austin was very troubling. We pay assistants beyond top dollar, with incredible benefits, yet we seem to lack the "Top Ten" coaching staff. Why?

I wanted him hired, I have tried to be supportive, but damn he makes it hard.

OB says Cook is still with the team, has not entered the portal or expressed a desire to transfer. They say he is dealing with "a personal situation that is being addressed."

I disagree and all one has to do is look at his interactions with the team. He is far out in front of every other coach in the country. He is totally engaged with the team in progressing on these ignored issues.

It reputedly is not any playing issue. Herman is reported to have spent a lot of time with him over the last 24 hours.

Perhaps your are watching the water in the pot a little too intently? This is only his 4th year coming up and Texas football was halfway down the drain when he arrived.

    Patience, Grasshopper.

You disagree? Get outta town! I kid.

Sure, Herman has been proactive recently about the protests, etc., but he didn’t exactly go out on a limb with anything he said, which basically was that it’s wrong that black people are not treated equally and that the inequity needs to be acknowledged and corrected. Not sure if he has always championed the cause, if so it’d mean a lot more. I think most coaches haven’t said as much, at least publicly, because either 1) they consider it to be assumed or 2) they’re against racial equality. I think the former. That said, the coaches and players seemed to bond over it so thumbs up.

Apparently some personal issues at play - may not be BLM-related.

I agree with you. I wanted him hired. I said at the time that we HAD to hire him because UT had to show that, if there is a hot coach that everyone wants, we have to show we can get him if we want him. It was a PR move to save face after the Strong debacle as much as anything.

I want him to succeed. I still support him. But, for me, when any coach starts blaming the fans (and MB did this too to my great chagrin), I start dangling one foot over the side of the bandwagon.

Hate to see him go. He had demonstrated good play on the D and speed is always needed. Wish him well, but next man up!

It appears he has officially entered Transfer portal. Or at least that is what is reported..

Sources: Texas DB Anthony Cook enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Still find his original tweet interesting...

"This has nothing to do with anyone or anything."

    Hhmm....
That means it has to do with no one and nothing??

    Agreed.
I'm not trying to villify the man, by the way; and there may be a reasonable explanation.
I am more just curious than anything else.

I've attended every home game and watched the rest on TV during his entire tenure here, and I can honestly say that I don't even remember him. When I first read that he is leaving, I couldn't remember what position he played. I certainly can't recall a single play he made. Sorry, but I guess I just focus on the players who make a noticeable impression or affect the outcome of a game.

He came in highly touted and certainly had the physical talent. I was hoping he would put it together this year. Maybe he’s been distracted all along.
