The cancel culture has obviously gotten out of hand. It is now to the point that many people are afraid to actually voice an opinion for fear of employer retaliation and dismissal. I'm aware that the 1st Amendment was not specifically intended to protect people from dismissal from their jobs, but is it likely that we will see lawsuits against companies for wrongful termination based on 1st Amendment rights?
Somebody might sue, but they won't do so successfully. The First Amendment doesn't generally apply to private businesses. To make a case like that work, you'd need some kind of legal exception to the employment at will doctrine that protected the right to voice one's politics. There's nothing like that at the federal level, and I'm not aware of any state be having such a law.
We have extended non-discrimination laws onto private businesses for many other factors, why not political persuasion? We should be free to speak about anything political except for Socialism. That speech should be outlawed.
I am against legislation like that in principle. But I know that a market approach will not end the Left wing revolution we are at the beginning of. We have to organize opposition. Getting the US government involved would go a long way to win the war. But that will be a war unto itself. I am not sure how to win a war against a group that controls the levels of political, academic, and cultural power. Individuals with guns in their homes isn't going to beat mobs are organizing more and more and weaponizing more and more.
Hopefully small businesses will rise to meet the challenge and take market share away from the corrupt large corporations
This will not happen as long as government is shutting down businesses and printing more stimulus money. All those things disadvantage small business.
