Unless Dion wants to move this discussion back to the Coronavirus thread, I thought it would be useful to have a place to focus on this specific discussion.

I am particularly intrigued by the anti-vaxxer movement and surprised by some of the passionate arguments against the vaccine, focused it seems on conspiracy theory concerns like government control and tracking chip implantation (I don’t get that one), population reduction, and the lack of safety because the development is progressing too fast. It appears that between 20 & 35% claim they will not be getting the vaccine. Then there’s the vitriol towards Gates. While I really don’t like Gates, I’m not sure that I am in the sinister plans camp either.

I would be interested in understanding differing perspectives. As for me, unless a very compelling case can be presented, I plan to get to vaccine (or start the régimen) as soon as it is available.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer but I'm going to wait awhile until I'm convinced it's safe. Less than a year in studies is too fast for me. Of course, being a high risk person it might be better for me to get the shot and just shut up about it.

I’m taking it so I don’t have to wear a mask anymore, and start flying again for business.

I’m in. I’ve listened to some very promising results from trials. Sadly, to gain herd immunity we will need 85%ish participation. That’s not happening.

Driver, what’s your assessment? I can understand the hesitation based on “rush to market” concerns. However, given the unprecedented, historic global effort and also the speculative production of potentially billions of doses, I look at this as a scientific advancement of epic proportions.

I'm in the too rushed to market camp.

Thanks, but I'll just trust my own robust immune system for the time being.

Death rate is, what, something like 1%? Sounds like a big payday for big pharma for something that has been blown waaaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion.

    Crock of ****.

BTW, where is the AIDS, H1N1, swine flu, etc., etc., vaccines? How are they magically developing something for this?

    Didn't anyone watch I am Legend? :p

I will take a wait and see attitude. If I see people not turning into mindless flesh eating zombies then I will take it. I damn sure ain't going to let my kids take it. Damn virus doesn't even affect them.

I won’t take it unless I’m forced to legally. Agree with HIC, we have no vaccine for other Corona viruses. Flu shots work? Since when?

Flu help your body handle the flu better. Sometimes they guess better on the virus than others. My company requires flu shots. I had to let a lady go who wouldn’t take it.

Bubba, I am not saying you shouldn't take the vaccine, but I can tell you really don't read much.

There isn't going to be a vaccine for this y'all. Just being honest. No successful synthetic vaccine has ever been developed. People have been trying to make a vaccine for Corona virus for a long time.

I'm definitely not an anti-vaxer and don't buy into the conspiracy theories on Gates. However, I'll definitely wait on taking any vaccine. It's getting rushed, and there's a big push to grant tort immunity for the drugmakers. All of that makes me very suspicious of any vaccine. I'm not saying I'll never get it, but I'm certainly not going to rush it. I'll wait and see what happens to others who decide to be the guinea pigs.

I also agree with Monahorns. I don't think the vaccine they come up with will be a silver bullet that truly stops this thing. I think it'll be like the flu shot at best. It might be better than nothing but won't provide anything close to true immunity.

I would like to hear from the attorneys on the legality of this. I do hope you get your *** sued off.

I am in and out of hospitals 100’s of times per year for work so I get a flu shot every year. I haven’t had the flu since 2000.

For this vaccine, I’ll wait it out a few years. I think I would weather it fine at my current age and health.

I would never fire someone for refusing a vaccine.

Absolutely true but there has never been a global effort like we are seeing now. Companies and countries sparing no expense, 24/7, for months. Further, progress had been made years ago working to develop a SARS vaccine, until it (SARS) disappeared.

There has never been an effort like what we are witnessing now. Not even close. I expect medical advances associated with the pandemic to be historic. We’ll see. With every brain, every country and every company obsessing to pull this off, I have little doubt that they will.

This reminds me of the effort in the 1960s to be the first to put a Man on the Moon. That was just the US and the Soviet Union. This is the world.

Attorneys looked at it. We followed the model of one of the largest hospitals in our region.

Thanks for the kind words. :) Not my policy but what Caesar wants...

I'm an inactive attorney. I almost exclusively represented plaintiffs and occasionally handled wrongful termination and employment discrimination cases. I am overwhelmingly pro-plaintiff and favor the right of individuals to have their days in court and for jury findings to be honored by courts.

An employer generally can require a flu shot as condition of employment. However, it can get dicey if the employee refuses because of religious beliefs. But even that would be a tough case.

We tried to coax old girl to come up with a “religious” exemption and she refused. She was just stubborn. We knuckle bumped two weeks ago. We had one guy excluded as he had had a bad reaction to it a few years ago.

I have never in my life had a flu shot. I'm not even against the flu shot, I've just never had one.

That was my thought, a person could claim religious beliefs. I see no reason to force someone to take it. Seems like a real scumbag facility. When I had a flu shot back in 1989 I got the worst flu I've ever had, nearly had to spend time in the hospital.

But don't you see the problem? You just admitted that it isn't because of your religious beliefs but because you got the flu in 1989 after getting a flu shot. Claiming a religious exception isn't as easy as you might assume. It isn't as simple as saying, "Jesus told me to say No." If you actually sued for this, defense counsel (and the judge and jury) wouldn't just take you at face value.

I do agree with you that requiring flu shots is is dumb. But these people are in Mobilhoma, so what did you expect?
