I see what you are saying, but if you have a seat next to the steps/platforms it is going to feel like a wall. Also, it looks like on the south side of the steps/platforms there is a wall. I guess my point is it is they are making it very difficult to move from the existing part of the stadium and the SEZ.

    I
Yes, I think you are correct - they don't want to make it easy to get over there! But at least it's better than the initial pkan, with the huge chasms between stands! And everything is connected.

In order to make room for the field level views the seating has to be elevated so the result will be front rows at field level viewing and the rest above elevated higher than the adjacent sections on east and west.

Our old HS stadium had a "bar" or handrail that separated the area between the 40s (players' parents and old-timer fans) from the "other" who came to the games. You literally had to go up one of two ramps in the middle of the concourse and then you couldn't move to other sections without hopping the rail.

Kids made a funny stink about it. Showed the pictures of South African soccer stadiums with the "whites" section in the middle surrounded by the "colored" sections.

My high school played its football games at Kimbrough Stadium (West Texas State U in Canyon). The home crowd and visitors both sat in the west stands, with a single rope dividing the stands in half, north & south (Canyon folks on the south, visitors on the north). So far as I know, no one ever crossed the DMZ straddling the two sides. Now that WTAMU (as it's now called, unfortunately) is constructing its own stadium on campus (Kimbrough is located about 2 miles north of town), Canyon ISD will have Kimbrough all to itself. But the Canyon Eagles will have to share the stadium with the Randall Raiders (the other Canyon ISD high school, located in Amarillo). Boo!
Kimbrough is a nice little stadium.

Why is the (digitally rendered) LHB wearing white trousers in this illustration?

It must be the first game of the season.

For the first game or two, while it's still hot, the band doesn't wear their full uniform and instead wears polo shirts, khaki shorts, and a ballcap.

OK then. But I must point out that the LHB was in full uniform for the 2016 Notre Dame game (I was there and my daughter was a freshmen in the LHB. I’ll have to ask her if they ever performed in tees and shorts during her 3 seasons in the band).

While the south end zone is still under construction this fall, will there be any kind of jumbotron in the stadium?

IIRC that game was a night start on national TV.

That pic must have been taken before or after the 3 seasons my daughter was in the LHB (2016, 2017, 2018). Her response, when I asked her about performing in that particular wardrobe, was "LOL no." (She added that sometimes they got to take off their coats when they were in the stands.)

Could be the Brown era as Maddog is sighted in the middle of the stampede.

Yeah it's 2007. Still has grass instead of turf. Henry Melton and Philip Payne are the ones flanking Mad Dog. Thomas Marshall is the one running down the middle with Erick Jackson and Brandon Foster to the left.

I had forgotten we did the south temporary stands during the NEZ construction.

Looking at the webcam today, it appears that those concrete steps have been eliminated, maybe just that dividing wall and a narrow corridor dividing the new section from the old. What do others see?

Steve, look closely at the indentations on the steel and you will see they line up with the asile markers on the concrete.

OK, I can see that now that you point it out! Thanks, ViperHorn! I think it really will look nice and enclose the sound really well.

Things are beginning to come into focus. If you look hard at the picture below you can see the outline of the Longhorn.

    upload_2020-7-24_6-12-5.png

Also, the seating rows on the East side stands are almost complete (sorry for those who believed that there would be just viewing platforms there). In addition, outside walls are starting to go up.

Finally, and just for Sabre, the backbone for the new jumbotron is complete.

They actually can't say until construction is complete because of occupancy counting rules (probably butts in the suites), but the estimate is between 102.5K-103K.

Since Kyle is at 102733, it wouldn't surprise me if we counted like 102750.

According to the renderings, the area immediately surrounding the screen will be a black border with the remainder of each edge of the suites will be advertising boards presumingly connected to the ribbon message boards around the stadium.

They obviously were planning on games this season thus the early work on the screen and the play clock under the screen.

I think some people were bent out of shape by losing those rows to higher seating capacity (which is somewhat silly considering our trevails with getting butts in the seats to begin with) and the fact that it would be gimmicky. Gimmicks aside, I like it. There are very few stadiums in the world where you can look at a seating section and instantly recognize it. Maybe Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati with "the gap" on the 3rd base side with views of downtown beyond it. Or the seats on top of the Green Monster in Boston.

My understanding is capacity only needs to be about 25 to 26k.
