Herb Hand does seem to like taller OLs. Lengyel is listed at 6'5.
Nahlin thinks he is a tackle
But Justin Wells says he would be an OG
He is supposed to visit Austin next weekend -- he might be the Myslinski back up plan
Lengyel has some real size and quickness to him but he's at his best on a path, when he has to move laterally or change direction in space then some of his limitations become evident. He's playing left tackle at Dallas Jesuit but he's a guard at Texas. There's not quite enough athleticism or length to project him to be able to hold up on the edge against Big 12 pass-rushers. His size and quickness does make a good fit for the inside zone scheme and there's an increasing need for guards to be able to absorb a pass rush with size and mass so converting big, physical high school tackles is a good plan there as well.
2021 OL recruiting is ending up to be nothing like I expected

To follow the rules fully one would need to also spray and wipe down the bench and bar between each use. And upon completion, a Stanley Steamer truck might be needed before the next user

Studdard, Sendlein, others. We’ve had some very good legacy players. We don’t take a recruit just because he’s a legacy, but it’s a plus factor in his favor.

Center is a tough position to recruit. I wouldn’t back off a center just because he’s a few inches shorter than the ideal.

Ultimately, it is merely a coincidence. Players always choose individually what they think is best for them.

Myslinski CB is from a guy who covers east coast. The real mystery here is why Texas wants him more than a higher rated one from Texas Houston area.

Mike Roach put in a CB (confidence level 8 ) for Lengyel
"..... The 2021 Dallas Jesuit offensive lineman was offered today, and sources near him feel Texas is now in the driver's seat for the three-star prospect. Baylor is Lengyel's other power five offer, but FIU, Wyoming, Louisiana Monroe, Arkansas State and Liberty also have their hats in the ring. While Lengyel isn't highly rated, sources in Austin feel he has the traits necessary to develop into a good prospect in the longterm. If Lengyel commits, he'd join Hayden Conner in the Texas offensive line class. The Longhorns are also working on Jacksonville (Fla.) Bishop Kenny center Michael Myslinski, Katy Taylor offensive guard Bryce Foster and Duncanville offensive tackle Savion Byrd. Lengyel is expected to make a pretty quick decision according to sources at Jesuit. "

James Brockermeyer was #32 in state
The next center per 247 is Ezra Dotson-Oyetade at #62
But it kind of looks like Oyetade might only be 6'0 (see above)
And Hand prefers taller OLs for his zone heavy scheme
The next in-state center is not until #102, and we have talked to him

Also a Texas CB in for WR Ketron Jackson (6'2, 186). The #26 WR nationally and #24 in Texas, per the 247 Composite. This on the heals of the commitment of his friend and 2022 WR Phaizon Wilson. Mike Roach thinks Coleman has his feet under him now for recruiting WRs to Texas

Jackson, Cain, and Alexis would be a good WR class for 2021 (especially OK if the 2022 WR class keeps going like its going now). Everything is going pretty well for 2021 except the OL

Here is proof we are still hard after Byrd. We sent out official offers last night at midnight (I think). This is from Byrd's Instagram, text from Herman.

The TCU guy, Jeremy Clark, also put in a CB for Jackson to Texas. He really thought he was going to TCU so hitting enter on that one had to hurt

Some of our recruiting gurus think Wheation is leaning our way while others think LJ Johnson is. I dont think either player loves dealing with the media. Going to be interesting to see how it all ends up

Easy to see why Herman does well on the trail. He comes across as sincere and honest...and I do not doubt that he is so. Additionally, I think the guy truly cares about his guys...more than I can say for some coaches.
Hopefully, it will translate on the field.

Man, that QB battle bout to be something fierce.
You know TH has been selling them on what has taken place at tOSU last few years...and they are all hungry...and they are all real capable. Good times...

Compare our QB room now to the last years of Mack through all of Charlie

And Milroe now looks 210ish, to me

Mike Roach on some of the remaining 2021 WRs besides Ketron Jackson

4-star Alexandria (VA) St. Stephen’s WR Malcolm Johnson Jr.
Scoop: Texas made it into the Top 5 for Johnson and full credit should go to Andre Coleman and Mike Yurcich to get them there. That said, I think Texas is at the back end of that group, and I’m not sure what the staff can do without visits at their disposal to make a move up.
    Confidence: Cool

4-star Lexington (KY) Frederick Douglass WR Dekel Crowdus
Scoop: Texas commits are working hard on Crowdus and he’s at least listening at this point. Still, it doesn’t sound like there is much to monitor to at this point. Perhaps Texas can continue to work to pry him away, but right now it seems he’s still firm in his commitment to Kentucky at this point in time.
    Confidence: Warm

4-star Kosciusko (MS) WR Antonio Harmon
Scoop: Not having deep sources in Mississippi, I’ve had to be careful about filtering out what I’m being told and matching it up with other information I can gather to clarify. Those I’ve spoken with near Harmon say that Texas is in a prime position, and sources in Austin confirm they’ve had great conversations with him. That said, we will approach this one cautiously down the stretch.
    Confidence: Warm

3-star Pompano Beach (Fla.) Monarch WR Jaden Alexis
Scoop: Alexis is one of the most important prospects on the board for Texas. A dynamic deep threat, Alexis could provide a big boost to the offensive class if Texas can reel him in. My pick is on Texas and has been for a while, and there’s nothing to change that as of now. I expect Alexis to make his move in the next month.
    Confidence: Hot

3-star McKinney North WR JJ Henry
Scoop: Texas seems to be in as good of a position as anyone for Henry, but a lot will depend on what happens for both sides over the next few months. If Texas fills up, they will obviously move on, but if Texas stays in the race, they should have a good shot to finish with Henry.
    Confidence: Warm

Here is Nick Harris of The Stampede on Davis and Henry

3-star Everman (Texas) Texas commit ATH Juan Davis
Davis was one of the first commits of this 2021 class back last summer and he could prove to be huge in this class. He has been talking with LSU commit JoJo Earle quite a bit about Texas and their relationship could be big for that recruitment going forward. Everything is status quo with Davis as well as he talks to tight ends coach Jay Boulware about every other day and is excited to get to Austin. He is open to play anything Texas needs him for and is working on slimming down during his senior year to be prepared for what comes next in Austin.

3-star McKinney (Texas) North WR JJ Henry
247Sports' Steve Wiltfong wrote a piece on Henry over the weekend that I liked a lot. It mentioned how intriguing he is as a recruit and the different intangibles he brings to the field. I saw exactly what he was talking about over the weekend as Henry had a great showing for Team Flex. He is lightning quick out of the slot and has great moves. I know that JoJo Earle may be the top prize at that slot position for a lot of people in the state of Texas, but I like the idea of putting Henry at least in that conversation.

In talking to him during the day, everything with Texas and Henry is smooth right now. Devin Duvernay getting drafted in April helped Texas a lot in this one as Henry pointed to that as the biggest reason why he likes the Longhorns. He is being super patient with the recruitment process right now and is waiting to see if he can take his visits. Schools he mentioned that he wants to get out to are Texas, Texas A&M, Florida State, Ole Miss and Louisville.

We are still after Byrd hard, but the gurus dont seem to like our chances
It's hard to believe we are going to totally whiff on all the top 2021 OLs
But the rst of the class is solid, esp the defense

If Juan Davis leaves that would tell me a lot about his character. Herm found him, wasn't even listed on Rivals when he committed.

About 15 months ago I predicted that our 2021 class would be in the top 3, if not number 1, based largely on the o-line prospects we would haul in. Boy was I taken behind the woodshack and beaten. I guess I'm blinded by the love of my state. Sucksssss! There, got that off my chest, I think.
However, I'm still holding out for a great season that might change a few minds.
