We have some uhh, mature fans on this board so perhaps someone may remember the cause of death. It escaped my view as I was living out of state at that time....
Won’t they announce in a week or two the date of the first game. I’m thinking the last Saturday in September UTEP at home.
Dudes & any Dudettes, I'm on some vacation time Fri - Mon. so you will have to pick up the ball and carry on with the countdown... you are all ALLSOME and capable. #28 Freddie Steinmark is on deck for Friday..... Get er' done!
#27 Johnnie Johnson, LaGrange. Consensus All-American 78-79, All-SWC 77-79, SWC All-Decade team of the 1970s, 1979 co-captain. Selected nation's best defensive back in 1978 by Downtown Athletic Club First round draft pick, 11 year pro. 1980 NFL Rookie of the Year. Longhorn Hall of Honor 1990.
#26 Keontay Ingram I think he’s a real sleeper pick for 1st team all conference, Doak Walker Finalist.
In other words, the standard of Fred's and Leon's defense's of that era. If you put those defensive teams with Mack's offense's of the 2000's, Texas would have scored 80 points a game because they would have had 18 possessions a game. Many of our opponets would never have crossed mid-field. OU in 1979 comes to mind as does Baylor getting 2 first downs in Austin that same year. You youngsters can't imagine what those teams were like. Yes the game has changed. But tackling and pancake blocking a guy have not. This guy was one of the best ever.
For me the best OU game ever OU got 5 first downs (2 on penalties; two on busted plays, one earned) OU gained almost 20 yards on their last busted play, or they have less that 100 yards total offense.
Johnny “Lam” Jones All-SWC, AA 78-79. Longhorn Hall of Honor 1994. If you’ve never seen the tape of his performance in the UIL state meet his senior year running for Lampasas, you’re missing out. Simply incredible. A sample of his work on the field: RIP, brother.
Very few players ever had the "football speed" of Lam Jones - one of the greats in Longhorn history. RIP.
Hmmmm my old memory is struggling for the year. I'm thinking 1976... ou got most of its yards and first downs on the last drive for TD to tie it up 6-6. If right what do I win?
Worster, I'm not sure of the question, but I am sure of 79. OU had that million dollar backfield led by Thomas "Do-rag" Lott. 76 may have been the hardest hitting game I've ever seen.
1979 ou game would be my second guess to your statement, not question.... And yes, as I've stated before and agree with you, 1976 UT vs ou was and still is THE hardest hitting game I've ever seen.
