I think we are in the best QB situation ever. Sam, Thompson, Card, JQJ, then Milroe- course he's not here yet, but will be. Any of those guys can run an offense.
All we need is the horses up front. Come on o-linemen with Excellent QBs in the fold, they will make you look better to the scouts, not to mention the quality of RBs we are getting.

It didn't take me long last year to see that Card was a Colt McCoy clone. He might even have a stronger arm than Colt. I really feel like if he doesn't become the #2 guy by the end of the season then we are in really really good shape because the guy that does is going to be Vince Young good. That is how high I think of Card.

With that said, he has the same problem that Colt had, can he take a hit, I mean the kid is rail thin, he needs to really hit the weight room and try to put on about 20 lbs of muscle. In that regard I actually like JQJ and Thompson, both guys are built for the college game.

I cannot remember any DKR teams having more than 3 QB at any one time who could/would be (become) starters at Texas. A lot with 2, for sure.

The 1965 recruiting class had about 10, including 2 on academic scholarships (didn't count against the 50 back then). Did they ever start or play? NO, but as DKR said, "I'm not looking at them on the opposite sideline".

I believe it was the 1965 team, that when riddled with injuries, one game he started like 5-7 HS QBs, including one at OG.

Not DKR, but Fred used about 7 in one game, I believe against UVA. Earl was out of pads by half, and even Herkie Walls and Les Koenig, Jr played QB in the fourth quarter.

Bret Stafford was also a QB on that team, although he was being red shirted.

I remember because I was sitting with his parents at Kyle Field. During that miserable first half, I told Bret's father, "Coach. he is y'all's son, but right now, I'd waste his shirt and start him the second half. He looked at me and said, "it'll be ok, you won't believe what you're about to see". Ms Stafford hugged me and said, "We're good, it'll be ok"

Was that before or after McIvor threw 2 TD's passes in the last few minutes of the 2nd quarter that gave us a 14-13 lead going into halftime?

Obviously before Rick hit the field and reveng.ed his previous Kyle Field performance. Dick had great faith in Rick's talent and ability

Should know today about Fields. There is a rumor that he had to finish up a summer class - not sure if this is accurate

Looks like WVU promised him more playing time. The question for Fields is does he want more playing time on a mediocre team or more meaningful if perhaps fewer snaps on a winning team. Which DL would he prefer to play behind?

Regardless Myron Warren is back on the team which should be more important in the long run.

One of his coaches from ASU is now co-DC at WVU and apparently promised him he would start

Promised him he would start? Ha! That's a good one. When will these kids learn when you get "promised" playing time you need to run the opposite direction.

No honest coach can promise any new player PT, even the #1 rated player in the country.

    Happens every day

The coach here is Jahmile Addae who is a former safety at WV. Before coaching at WVU he was the DB coach at Minnesota for one year, and DB coach at Arizona for 5 yrs.

“I have Coach Jahmile Addae there," Fields said earlier this month. "He recruited me to Arizona. He’s co-defensive coordinator. The defense is almost exactly the same as it was as of UofA also. So, I’ve got an upper hand over there. I already know what’s going on with the defense.”

Did he visit Morgantown or just replied on the coach's "promise".

It does happen all time as Joe said. Plus the young man knows the coach, trusts the coach.
Hard to beat an established relationship.

Ah, sounds like the old easy chair. Coach will bring him his slippers every night. This is not a LB Texas wants. That whistle the coaches heard was a bullet going by them.
