The conference had decided no OOC games would be played last month. But today has decided not to play games in fall 2020, keeping open the possibility that it could play the season in the spring. LINK: Pac-12 suspends 2020 football season
BevoJoe, Thanks for the post, otherwise I probably would never have noticed. Without Leach, the PAC is not very interesting, and seldom reliable for betting.
Only because USC can't play any home games under existing restrictions. Otherwise, they would be living in CDC's office.
Spring football is a non-starter: * - Any Senior with any dream of playing in the NFL isn't going to play * - What are you going to do with early enrollees? If you throw them into the fire how "seasons" are they allowed? *- So you have a 10-12 game schedule over 14-15 weeks to be completed by late May you have to start games in mid-February which means practicing starting right after Christmas about the same time as the Spring semester starts. That means no month of heavy workouts without class worries. * - It is good to have one month off between seasons?
Yep, how do they play in Fall, 2021 after a 10-12 game spring season? Maybe they should play flag football.
It will be interesting to see how the NCAA and the leagues handle things this time next year. I would assume all the players will get another year of eligibility, while at the same time there will be a new class of 20-30 players coming in. So will the roster limit be increased to 115 or so? Will it be that number for all teams or just ones that canceled their season? Logistically, how do schools handle having up to 25% more players on the team - locker rooms, players dorms, staff? The 2021 season will shape up to the the most expensive ever, while at the same time having made little to no money from the 2020 season. Also wonder about the big payout - TV revenue. I suppose it depends on the individual contracts, so do schools and leagues still get paid the same amounts from the TV outfits? Or no play no pay? Any insurance payouts for this? Someone is going to make a lot less money this year - will it be the schools or the TV networks? Lots to ponder. Will be a hoot if the SEC has a season and rakes in the cash with few issues from playing, leaving the Pac and Big 10/12 stewing maddeningly, beyond words.
