As a direct result, we are going to be able reel in some of the top shelf national WRs

Hopefully this one from just outside Austin

Remember when Aggy said we didn’t have QB’s, WR’s, or DB’s? I think they said DT’s too. They laughed at our RB injury situation last year. Not laughing now. Oh well. (I hope they focus their contempt at our OL, cause we need help there too).

Wasn't Chris Simms also the #1 recruit in the nation?
And VY once said he chose UT because of Simms.

Simms was the #1 offensive player, and Redding the #1 defensive player nationally the year both signed with Texas.

:hookem:Living in Grapevine I have been hearing about this kid for a while and everything I hear is good. Two years away and probably at least three before he sees the field but great pick up and the recruiting momentum cannot be undersold that this brings.

Here is part of the Mile Roach/247 write-up

".... Ewers admittedly grew up a Texas fan, buzz over the last six months indicated that the childhood favorite wouldn’t be enough on its own merit. While Beck was great at building relationships and being a charismatic recruiter, Yurcich’s approach was a bit different.

Yurcich’s intensity and focus on the schematic pitch rang true with Ewers. After successful runs at Ohio State and Oklahoma State, Yurcich had bona fide success stories to sell. At times in this recruitment, Oklahoma and Ohio State surged a bit but Texas always remained the constant.

Yurcich’s focus on illustrating how Ewers could succeed offensively was complimented by an assist from Sam Ehlinger. Sources tell Horns247 that Ehlinger clicked quickly with the new Texas offensive coordinator, and he’s been vocal about endorsing Yurcich to anyone who will listen.

I was told that Texas really poured it on recently keeping Ewers updated on the way offensive install has been going thus far in camp. Combine that with Ewers’ childhood love for the Longhorns, and Texas was always going to be tough to beat.

In the last few months, Ewers began to tire of the recruiting process. As a somewhat private kid not into the hype of recruiting and social media, he decided to make his move official. Kudos to Tom Herman, Mike Yurcich and the rest of the Texas staff who landed the top player in the nation without yet putting their new product on the field...."

The two best High School Qb's I have ever seen in person, before Ewers, were Kyler Murray and, here's one for the old guys, Tommy Kramer. Most of ya'll know about Kyler, but Tommy goes a long way back and played when most teams threw the ball 10 times a game. He was a great HS Qb.

Ewers is better than either of them.

I need to see more of him before I draw any conclusions, he might be on a level as a passer we haven't ever seen before at Texas. His arm strength is light years ahead of guys like Major Applewhite and Colt, but he runs like Colt and is accurate like Colt. He is bigger than Colt already and he is probably still growing.

Calling him a generational QB is the best description I can think of, he is that good.

Here in lies the problem, we cannot F this up, if we don't win big with him and make him the #1 pick in the draft we will have basically fumbled on the goal line and none of our competitors will ever let us forget it and neither will any of the 5'star players in future cycles.

    Don't F this up Herman!!!!

Thrilled that we landed a verbal from such an exceptional player. My biggest question / concern deals with how the staff will handle this QB room two years from now. It's an embarrassment of riches and a good problem to have, but we have what appears to be some incredible leaders coming in at the position who have a chance to be special (Card, JQJ, Milroe, etc.). It will definitely be a tight rope for this staff to walk.

Just keep recruiting, the QB room will work itself out, yes we will have transfers. Hell between Card and JQJ, both these players can play other positions, Card is an excellent receiver and JQJ is an excellent Safety. I'm worried about losing Milroe now, he is a damn good QB and I might argue in the Tom Herman System a better fit than the traditional drop back passer.

All these guys need to just compete, they will be in a good position next season fighting to see who starts after Ehlinger, that fight will go on throughout the whole season. Ewers won't get here until 2022 and probably won't play until 2023 at the earliest, maybe 2024. That is a long way away.
