Thought we could share a few final football thoughts before play begins related to positive expectations for the team, specific doubts or surprises, league play, national picture, etc.
Thank God some real on field action is nigh.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

I too am very ready for some Horns football.

In a season full of many distractions, my hope is the team will have full focusness on football and meeting high expectations for a great season.

On a side note I heard a short blurb on the news that the Horns & all other Big 12 teams will wear some kind of patch on their jersey & sticker on their helmet about ending racism.

    positive expectations for the team:

B12 title. Herman's 4th year, senior QB, freshman QB at OU. Revamped coaching staff. No excuses. Win the conference, which is only being the best team of 10 - should not be the re-invetion of the wheel. If not this year, when? And who?

    specific doubts or surprises:

Running game when it matters. As I posed on another topic, on paper Texas had a good running game by yards and YPC. But it seemed like when Texas needed 2 yards on 3rd down to keep a drive alive, the running game could not deliver.

Defense in general. Was atrocious last year - 107th out of ~120 teams. Could have truly gotten players on the IM field who would have done a better job. New coach this year, maybe he whips them into shape. No excuses allowed on this side for having a new coordinator or such, no "it's his first year, gotta give him time to ... blah blah blah".

    league play:

OU looks down this year, but they have a strong staff so I would expect them to still be in the hunt. OSU is always scrappy but hasn't won a conference title in 8 years or such. TCU is a challenger to Texas but seems to fold up for OU and others. Should come down to OU and Texas, and a win against OU in October seems to mean very little in terms of Texas following through and winning the conference.

    national picture:

Hard to bet against Clemson - awesome QB, great running back. I think they had a number of losses to the NFL but will reload as they have recruited so well.

Alabama should be strong again. May be a good year for the Gators - it's their coach's third year, so he's in a do it now or when scenario as well.

From the presser, I percieved that our coach is not wild about all the political ramifications being injected into his sphere of influence..As evidenced by his response following two political questions. Which was " GREAT , a FOOTBALL question"!

Yes, modern trailers are stackable and the added height is an excellent structural complement in tornado country

No excuses. We should win every game:

    Best coaches $$$ can buy.

    Name a better starting QB.

Identify a better stable of RBs. (Remember: stable.)

A better OL? Remember, I said better.

    A better NT?

    A better OLB/DE than Ossai.

    A better secondary.

A team with a better kicking game.

This team seems loaded to me but I will concede that I do usually struggle with Rose Colored Glasses Disease.

(Notice that I didn’t ask anyone to name a team with a better HC. That may be our downfall.)

He should have thought about that before being so political after the Floyd overdose. He should have stayed focused on football like Dabo and Saban did. He started the **** storm !!!

So Herman, out of left field, insults UT fans, claiming we hate the players, won't let them date our daughters, and won't consider them to run our businesses.

Now remember, not ~ 7 months ago when he needed someone to "run his business", namely the DC side of the ball, who does he hire - a former UT football player? Hell no, old boy hires a buddy of his he used to work with.

OK I guess, but then don't complain about not hiring some ethnic studies major to run someone else's business. How many engineers and business majors is the UT Football program pumping out? Lots? Many? None? None isn't it? If he can't hire a former football player to, well, coach football, he needs to shut his trap about who business owners hire to run their business.

And now he wants to only focus on football?

Between the insults, and the Aggy-esq empty trophy case, a lot of fans are starting to tune him out. B12 Champs this year, or he's another Makovitch, minus the championships.

TH ought to STFU and try to win the games he should and and focus on winning the Big XII. That's his job, not to coddle the players and insult his bread and butter.

    F him.

Come on HC tell me what you really think!! You think Tommy would really coddle his players? Just because he kisses them and marches with them doesnt mean that, does it? Surely Saban does that!,

I’m giving Herman a pass, on all his rhetoric because he can’t afford to lose the team but he can afford to lose the fans. All these coaches are giving in. If he wins an Orange wave of Demand will rise up and nobody will care. But if he loses he is toast.

Right now he has zero leverage with the players. Look what poor Mullet at Okie State had to do for wearing an OAN shirt. Maybe teams need to recruit less sensitive players.
So Herman just needs to figure out how to get them to focus on the small games. I liked the bowl game defense so I’m optimistic. Should be a great year!
I’m expecting 9-1 reg. And into the dance.

Why are Big 12 players REQUIRED to wear these social things on their uniforms ? The Big 12 a dictatorship now ??? Why is the conference going to have players out for the national anthem all of a sudden ? ..... To give them a chance to spit in the face of our nation ??? You know the POS will kneel. Glad I left the foundation and gave up my 6 tickets. Screw the Big 12.... Guess I'll get to some neglected projects this football season, and more TV Land on the TV.... Maybe the SEC or ACC shows a little more patriotism, and I can watch them. We shall see. America First !!!!
True the football world won't miss me, but to all who blow this off and continue to support this ********.....Down the road, WE ALL will miss our freedom when they take it from us.

    Maj,

I want a pin to wear that says “WP”

I am white, but far from “privileged”, growing up in an a house with no air conditioning in a town where 75% of my graduating class died of cancer within 25 years from all the chemicals we breathed in at a HS with no AC. I worked for what little I have and provided both my children with educations and graduate degrees.

I had no puppeteers pulling my strings, and I guar-on-damn-tee you these puppets won’t see a penny from their puppeteers, who are raising millions off their actions.

Looking forward to watching live Longhorn football at DKR in person on Saturday.

Predict a Longhorn win and a full slate of Monday Morning Quarterbacking postgame.

    Some things change.

    Many things don't change.

    Go Horns!
