Tech is terrible this year. The Tech game should be a cakewalk for us. I get concerned with cold weather games in Lubbock, where strange things tend to happen. I’m not worried this year.

Another 59-3 beatdown would be nice. Beating them is always nice, beating them to the point that their fanbase goes silent is even better.

Yeah, this one could exceed 59-3... Backups playing early qtr. 3. Jones stadium capacity is about 60k. So they will have a crowd south of ~ 15k ~ if they are going with 25% capacity.

At least it is a daytime game. Night games in Lubbock seem not to go to plan.

Jones Stadium, at night, when it’s cold = bizarre bounces of the ball, fumbled returns, turnovers galore, and an almost Notre Dame Irish-like luck in favor of the Red Raiders. In the day, in warm weather, with 20% fan occupancy = no problem.

As scary as Lubbock can seem, we've only lost there 3 times since the start of the Big 12.

I hesitate to project the outcome of this game based on one prior game worth of data, but I will say Tech better improve a lot on pass defense or it's likely to get real ugly for them.

It will be more of a test for Ash and the defense than UTEP but Texas should be a double digit favorite and the offense should be able to put up a ton of points. Still, predicting Texas blowouts for about the past decade has been tenuous at best. I was really pleased Saturday to see the name your score type of game that we haven't really seen since Colt was under center but I am not ready to say that Texas is back to doing that on a regular basis to undermanned opponents.

Ugh, yeah. Bi-District game between Canyon & Monahans, Nov. 1974. Temperature below freezing plus a steady 30 mph wind straight out of the north. I would prefer to swelter in DKR in a September afternoon game, thank you.

You would certainly think the Longhorns will be heavy favorites. BUT...the game is still played on grass, not on paper. If the Horns take the same intensity onto the field that they showed against UTEP, all should go well, but Tceh is not UTEP - it will still take a team effort with focus.

Absolutely, things won't go as smoothly as against UTEP. They'll have game film on us. But Sam will keep us rolling, enough. I am sure tech will be fired up for us so the first half will not be easy. We pull away in the second half.

OK, that’s all fine and dandy. Yes, the horns should win and win big. Should. For some reason, Tom has a bad tendency to let his players get too full of themselves after impressive wins. We have seen it at Houston and we have seen it here too. Just last year the Horns had to sneak by a pretty pitiful Kansas team. At home!! I am sorry, but Tom Herman still has much to prove if he wants to be considered an upper echelon coach.

We're gonna get 10x the effort from Tech that the Raiders gave against HBU. That still shouldn't be enough along as our guys stay focused and understand that a bad first game by Tech doesn't mean we can go on cruise control against them and try to match up with disinterest against their passion.

Do not know about coaching echelons but I am glad how the Texas staff and teams are progressing over the last 3 years compared to the immediate seven years preceding his arrival.

Tech will be a nice Big 12 warm up. What I saw Saturday was a juggernaut offense and a salty D. If they can do that to Tech. Look out Big 12.

I think it's a real possibility that TH is a different man than he used to be. He's more closely connected to his players since the team has been through so much. And perhaps, considering his famous statement he made a while back, he's learning a lot this year. With the coaching changes and all the adversity this year maybe he is growing as a coach. Tough times make tough men, tough in the sense of maturity. Maybe he won't coast if he was doing that. As JoeF would say "we'll see". These are certainly character building times.

I want a stronger pass rush against Tech. If we give Bowman time, he can light it up and make it a shootout, or at least keep them in the game. I'm thinking we were plain vanilla on D against UTEP because nothing more was required. We'll pull out some stops as needed from here on out. I think our pass rush will be a lot stronger against Tech.

Last year was progression? OK. Maybe over the 7 years prior to Herman’s arrival, but definitely not considered progression last year when you basically fired the entire coaching staff after the season. Sorry.

When you give up that many yards passing to a team like Houston Baptist ( I had never heard of them and had to look them up ) I don’t think you’re fixing that in a matter of weeks.

I would not be surprised if the single-game passing record for Texas is broken (476 by Colt?) or if we ran the ball 20 times or less.

If both teams rely primarily on the passing game, I would not be surprised if this game lasts about 5 hours.

Yeah really. Think UH vs. BYU in the late 80s / early 90s.
