After ACC meetings today, ACC "'absolutely' intends on playing this fall". ACC 'absolutely' intends to play 2020 college football season after league meetings Monday
I don't think so. She had a great season last year but I think she wants to prove herself more before rushing to a decision like that. Megan Walker did that and that has not turned out so well. Collier definitely needs another full season under her belt before being wnba ready.
I wasn't sure where to post this, but I didn't feel like the story needed its own thread. Wolverines, Horns eliminate jobs, cut salaries
NCAA announced the season starts November 25th. From what I am hearing that would make the first game at home vs North Texas on the 29th. 3 former Texas staff members now coaching for UNT (Jalie, Jamie, Kelby). Gonna be an intense way to start off the season.
2021 WNBA Mock Draft - WNBA - DraftSite.com I was doing some digging and this site has Collier as the wnba #1 draft pick next year that's amazing for her but I really want her to stay all four years for selfish reasons and development reasons. I honestly just think that her and Aaliyah Moore would do wonders with eachother.
I do too. Good thing the WNBA doesn't pay millions to the first draft pick, but instead pays $68,000 to the first four draft picks.
That’s for 4.5 months. The #1 overall could easily get an additional $150K playing overseas during the WNBA offseason. I don’t know a lot of college grads starting out at $220K per year. Believe me, I don’t want to see her leave early but if she is definitely going to be drafted in the top 2-3?
Noticed Dallas has number 4, 5 and 7 picks. I believe this last year they had four picks but traded one into 2021. Its kinda hard to have that many rookies. Dallas will be very young again next year, so I'll bet they will trade one or more of their picks. Would be nice to bundle all three, move up and get Collier. Would rather she stay a Horn but I think the writing is on the wall.
Yeah sadly I think she might make the move. I Hope she decides to stay a longhorn all four years but I would understand if she wants to get to the wnba because she is a special talent. I just think with the combination of Harmon, Moore and Collier. Texas would have a championship contending team.
Daily Texan with quotes from Vic about how the team has embraced the change, hurdles ahead. 9/18/20 Flipbook
Ebo looking like a monster in the paint! I pray she gets a waiver to become eligible immediately. We need her physical presence alot for the upcoming season
ESPN just updated their Women's college basketball's Way-Too-Early Top 25 and Texas is...unranked. I really hope Vic and Co. use this as bulletin board material - the 'experts' felt Texas did not deserve to be ranked ahead of Ohio State (only 1 double digit scorer returning), Missouri STATE, Syracuse (16-15 last season). One of the reasons they give for ranking Ohio State? "Kevin McGuff is a known quantity on the bench." I'd say Vic has a slightly better track record than McGuff. This is actually, IMHO, the best thing we could've gotten. As long as the staff manages this (and they will), it should be a shot in the arm without creating too much negative pressure. That's some GREAT motivation!
There are advantages but let's say you project a starting 5 of Kyra, Joanne, Celeste, Charli and: "Small": + Karisma. You have 3-point threats at every spot except possibly Karisma (9/40, 22.5% as a freshman at PSU) and very athletic, aggressive defenders. "Big": + Lauren (if granted the waiver). Slide Charli into the 4 and let her roam inside and out while Lauren bangs down low. "Medium": + Deyona or Elyssa. Probably take some lumps early with a freshman in the paint with Charli but they are both plus athletes and rebounders. With the new coaching staff, I'm much more bullish on any of those lineups than at least a handful of teams that made their list.
I think the biggest question mark is the inside play. Will Lauren be eligible? And if she is and you move Charli over to the 4 is she athletic enough to guard the position?
Depends on the opponent. Against a small ball lineup ala Iowa State, probably not but she would dominate a smaller player on the offensive end. Against a more “traditional” 4, even if she’s outmatched a bit of foot speed, her length could balance that out.
You could also throw Warren in that 3 spot. I love her because of her intensity and hustle. Since Vic has made it well known that he will be putting nonstop pressure. Having Warren in to start the game will give you that intensity and hustle to get the team up and going to start the game. We really don't have a good record of starting off ready to play so my projection would be: 1. Lambert 2. Taylor 3. Warren 4. Collier 5. Ebo(if waiver granted) If you want more speed you could throw in Gaston in for Ebo for more speed but still have that power.
Audrey has the right energy and hustle but that’s also helpful off the bench if the starters come out a bit flat. Joanne was heavily recruited by this staff at Miss State so I’d expect her to have a leg up.
I was reading up on SEC men's basketball on ESPN and it provided that the Big 12/SEC Challenge would continue. I'm confident that the same would continue for the women's game. SEC sets conference play dates for men, women
