Well, great job little Sterns. You made the news and, more importantly, you were mentioned on Hornsfans!

"Get Back" by The Beatles. The single was released in April 1969. Great song!

The lines this week are a little different...instead of points, it is an over-under on the number of players ruled out for...reasons.

The strength of our D is in our two interior DTs. Our 2-deep: Coburn, Graham, Sweat, Collins. You'd have to go back to Casey Hampton and Shaun Rogers to find a clearly better group, and their backups probably weren't as good as Sweat and Collins. Sweat is immensely strong on the field, watch the UTEP video. Obviously Coburn is as well. Graham is finally playing his natural position, and Collins is a Freshman wonder. Our interior DTs should clog the middle, control the line of scrimmage, and push the pocket back against Tech. Tech brings a lot of height to their interior OL with C Deaton, RG Anderson, and LG Wright (both Deaton and Anderson are Frisco guys). Coburn should be able to work his leverage and superior strength well.

If there might be an area for improvement, it would be pushing the pocket back against really good interior OLs. We'll see when we face some (probably not this week). UTEP released the ball quickly and didn't really develop much of a pocket. It was also hard to gauge with so many 3 and outs. I think getting edge pressure with our DEs may be more of an issue this year. That's why Ossai spun down. It will also be up to the DEs to contain Bowman on the run. Importantly, we can't let Bowman camp out in the pocket or he'll pick us apart. That's why the play of our 2 interior DTs is so important this week.

Great post, Chop. I mentioned some of these very same things a few days back and they were some of my main takeaways from the game. Didn't see getting into the backfield on runs or pass the way I hoped last week against a weaker opponent....pass downs partially explained by uteps strategy as you noted.
This week may reveal a little more....and hopefully it's good

I'm not in the camp that thinks 'let's hold back some stuff until OU so we don't show the Sooners any secrets.' Against UTEP, fine, go plain vanilla. But now we're in conference. TCU stuffed us last year, and Bowman is a dangerous man that can bring them back from a 21 point deficit. Don't hold back anymore.

Totally agree with the DT/NG being the strength of our D though I really think the secondary has some pretty good chops (pun intended). If its true, and I do think it is, that it all starts up front then this year should be fun. Those guys free up the LBs to move and attack or fill passing lanes which in turn helps the secondary. Secondary is also, of course, helped by a harried QB with little time to diagnose and release the ball.

DT is definitely the strength, but defensive back is extremely strong and deep. When guys like Green and Cook are back ups, the secondary is very strong. Bowman and Vasher and Ezukama (sp?) are going to cause us some heartburn in the secondary but I can't think of a better way for those guys to get ready for oklahoma.
