Not Sure I Want This Group of Players to Sing the Eyes.

I totally disagree, but maybe I placed too much significance on singing that particular song. It’s always been our tradition (friends and family) to remain in the stadium (especially after a loss) to sing “The Eyes,” to show our support.

Mc not agreeing with you the timing of playing Eyes. They were definitely still milling around with the other players when it started, but true confession I was exiting and singing at about the middle of song. First time I couldn’t get wife to stay through it, she was Pissed!

I say scrap the Big 12, end LHN contract with ESPN, fire Herman and CDC. Cancel scholarships of Sterns and Eagles.

Hire Mack Brown as AD and give him free reign to rebuild the program absent him coaching.

TCU is 7-2 against the Horns since joining the Big 12.

Well as I said I’ll be there to support the team but I’m not proud of today’s performance. And I was fortunate enough to get RRS tickets too. Well I hope it’s a fortunate thing. :idk:

At this point giving that program any money just perpetuates the suck.

I pointed that out in the mostly crazy predictions thread. I said Patterson would out coach Herman.

Texas / OU tickets should be selling for $5 right now. Who would have thought Mike Gundy, the least “woke” coach, would be in 1st place.

Sadly he number of first time and less than 25 posters who crawl out of the woodwork after a big loss doesn't surprise me in the least.

I think a number of longtime fans feel It is deeper than a ‘straw man’ issue. But to each his own.

So we have only 5 players that desire to sing the school fight song??
Sounds like a problem to me on a very basic, common-sense level.

Well, I bet they’d all both sing and dance if we played the Wabash Cannonball instead...

We’re not as tradition obsessed as some places, but we do have a handful of great traditions that are worth preserving, such as The Eyes.

I always thought the Eyes was the bond between the fans and the players. I've never felt I had a right to sing it when I'm at a game. So I silently watch. But to see the players reject what I considered a sacred ritual for the initiated is odd, to say the least. They want the fans support. What do the fans get for paying all that money and screaming their lungs out?

If they want to play mercenary then they can't expect the love that Herman demanded. It's a business deal.

"Here's your helmet. Here's your full ride. Please win the game."

Your saying that caused me to involuntarily remember this Carpenters song from the early 1970s*. Now it's going to be an earworm for the rest of the night. Thanks a lot.

    *I hate that song.

No kidding. I am so upset about this. I cannot believe this is true so I called a friend that went to the game. He confirmed that Sam and a few others sang. How did this happen?

It is amazing how the EOT went from a cherished, time honored tradition, performed with joy by Texas greats such as Colt, Vince, Ricky, Earl, Street, Major, and all the rest, to some horrible thing that must be ignored in the name of all that is right and correct in the world. In the space of what, 31 Dec at the Alamo bowl to about 3 weeks ago?

Behold the power of group think and self-righteousness, reinforced by social media, and the regular media as well.

Next time, boo them off the field and give 'em something to stew about.

It’s The Eyes of Texas, not the fight song. And every single player, except walk-ons, had other scholarship offers and chose to come here. I assume most had come to a game during recruitment and saw the players (and coaches) walk over and sing it. A few players decided later to make a political statement and UT’s weak coach, AD and President totally backed down.
What will be next? Change the school colors since a lot of prisoners wear orange?

I'm with you...preaching to the choir here...
The main issue here is no one.....no one knew or cared nor could or would remotely raise the hook 'em and sing The Eyes with any racial tone, undertone, thoughts, or intent.......But I bet a few do now.
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite the face. This culture these days....all emotion and no wisdom.
(And for the record, the tiny bit of history in question someone apparently injected into the song way back when was such a small part of the history and present meaning of the song -It has so little bearing on anything...literally anything that should matter today, and to make it an issue is just plain foolish.)
