Leach: Roster may need 'purge' of 'malcontents'

He loses two games to crummy teams and will evaluate who wants to play for MSU.

After last week is there any doubt there are several teams with a similar evaluation that should be made?

Leach doesn't care what people, read media, think of him.

Herman has an ego and wants to be liked, so he is afraid to say things like that. He acts arrogant as if he doesn't care what the media thinks, but I think he does.

Leach cares what his players think of him (the players that give a d$$m.)

He does. Mack was the same way. I remember Mack giving a hubristic interview when he said, "I don't listen to the fans. I listen to Joe Jamail. I listen to Red McCombs. I listen to Deloss Dodds.". Yet, he always seemed to have the pulse of what the current criticisms were about him. When the internet was in full swing making fun of Mack being scared to death of everything, it left his vocabulary not long after. He didn't use that expression the last several years he was at Texas.

Yeah, Leach on the other hand really doesn't give a **** what most people think. He can be pretty caustic to his players, though. I think he needs to be a little careful with his purge but probably he won't be. :hookem:

If Texas got rid of malcontents, UTs roster would be a total of about 20 players, and two of those are walk on LBs who just got scholarships , Dicker, Joshua Moore , Jamison, Cosmi, and Sam. I know I am missing some other good committed players...but the loosing doesn’t bother me as much as the entitlement and the way these little kids watch Sam carry them.

There is a "rumor" of a possible mid season replacement of TH to save recruiting and start over with a proven winner. I thought it seemed unlikely but thinking about it I see no reason to let Herman to continue to destroy our school. If a buyout can be had and a suitable replacement can be agreed upon without a clown show search team, it must be done.

I don't think Texas has ever replaced a head coach during a season. At least not in the modern era. Since Texas loves to shirk tradition and the normal way of doing things nowadays, I say go for it.

I would like CDC to figure out that he needs to jetison TH to save his own job.

But, the people who decide that are all woke and love what CDC and TH are doing. So, why would they fire him?

I know it is a rumor, but based on where you read it or heard it...... any guess on a scale of 1-10 how serious it might be? 10 being the highest level.

Sadly, you are right, I was just wishing. However, the loss of serious donor $$$ could turn things in our favor. My sister knows a lady who backed out of a $5MM pledge over The Eyes, and IDT she is the only one.

It is coming from a number of places but I am buddies with a few folks that donate lots of money. They are more incensed than usual and appear to be more united in their will to make a change and to pay money (or withdraw it) if a real change is made. There are obviously a number of scenarios that could play out but I think there was only tepid support for Herman before the season began and their remain other money guys that are still mad over the bungling of Sabin.

Because CDC and the president (and hopefully the BOR) seem to be on the same side (at least for now) I think chances are very good that Herman will be replaced before a bowl game and probably before the end of the season if the replacement is available now. I (my observation only) also don't see much of a chance of hiring a current College Coach for obvious reasons and there is no need to risk getting "played" by a coach wanting to up his current salary where he is (exception maybe Harbaugh or someone of his ilk). I think there are (probably) those that think money whipping Sabin or Dabo is possible but the timing will just not work at this time even if the money and the mutual will were there.

Unfortunately, I think Herman does not have the skills to save his job, this year or next. I think the president and CDC cannot fix this alone and can't afford to make it worse, if that were possible, and the BOR will help broker a deal that is driven by the people writing the checks and folks that are used to getting things done in their lifetime. With every loss and every failure to sing the Eyes, I suspect that the replacement of Herman will amplify. I suspect a new coach (not a search team) by late November/ early December for early signing and to keep and preserve what we might have.

Urban Meyer seems to be the most obvious given his stature and employment situation but I haven't heard anything that would make me think Meyer is a done deal. My guess is the only way this gets done effectively is if the choice for a coach is agreed upon before checks are signed.

My guess 75 percent by early signing period.

Leach is an interesting coach and guy, but he wears his welcome out within a few years, both from his own abrasiveness, and often lack of results. His defenses, for whatever reasons (he doesn't care about them, all focus is on offensive recruiting, tempo of game, etc.) are terrible, and lose many a game for them.

The win against LSU lost a lot of its luster after LSU then lost to Missouri. Still, MSU is a good place for him as he won't be expected to win title, just go 8-4 with an occasional nice win against a SEC team, and decent bowl. Dude needs to lose some weight or he may not live out his contract.

Mid season change I’d give it a 5, no more but honestly a 5 is 4 points higher than I would ordinarily give.
What I wonder is how many snowflakes would leave with him? Talking about players of course. That may be a reason to wait. I know the thought, have it myself, of good riddance but we have to consider what a complete season shut down would mean.
This brings to question, anyone know if with the few game day attendees now do the concessions make any money?

Would be nice, but even C Strong played (or rather, stumbled) the season out before he was run off. I just can't see He-Man being run off mid-season. Or for that matter, even after a winning season. I think he'd need a losing season to be given the boot this year.

Brown was fired after a winning season yes, but it was what the 4th straight year of 3-4 loss seasons, with no improvement year to year, and nothing interesting on the horizon to make you think anything was going to change.

I've seen this a lot, both at Texas and at about every school in the country. After a few bad losses, the thinking is that the team will win maybe 1-2 more games, but it's usually far more than that, and not the season disaster the doom and gloomers think.

So, I think Texas ends 6-4 (loss to OSU and 1 of KSU/ISU/Bayor) and the AD puts a smiley face on it all by saying 2020 man!!!, season like no other, get another full year of practice in with our new coordinators blah blah blah, and hope the off season isn't a disaster like this one was.

I would agree with you if this was a usual break down plus Covid (only). I believe Herman had tepid support to begin with and even die hards are ANGRY because of The Eyes etc. Past experience will eliminate Presidential and Ath Dept meddling and we are not dealing with Patterson and President Dum a$$. If big money can put this together and pick the replacement, it will be done, and they won't wait for a slaughter at the hands of the early signing period or transfer portal (I think).

A man can dream. Currently we have an unlikable coach, players who don't care about the fans or the traditions of Texas, and still get man handled by coached-up, motivated, 2 star players from TCU.

Sabre can correct me, but if I understand everything contract related, CDC has the authority to reassign him at CdC's discretion. Probably some contract hurdles which Herman would throw up (like CdC notifying his boss, etc.), but at the end of the day it is CdC's call since State funds are not involved.

But Chris don't do it until you have an ironclad agreement with the long term replacement (Stoops or Meyer or Stoops as the interim and Meyer as the new HC).

CDC, Herman, and the President ( acting president ) should have nipped this crap in the bud.. Told the players, who said they would not play unless their demands were met , "The portal is that way... See ya ....".. Then let the chips fall, and replace them with whoever came available.

For what its worth, he is now the President

Herman let it get too far before he knew about it. Then the other two found out after the train ran over them

One of the many reasons I'm pissed at Herman, the guy had no what was going on with his players
