The Pac-12 is obviously the worst, but the Big-12 is right behind them this year. Neither conference will get a team into the college football playoff, unless Oklahoma State happens to win out. That would be the only team that can make it from either conference in the college football playoff.
In addition to 1 SEC, ACC, and Big10 team, the 4th slot will go to either a second SEC or ACC team (including Notre Dame), or a Group of 5 school like Cincinnati or SMU. This being 2020 it wouldn't surprise me if a Group of 5 school makes it to the playoff this year.
If fate wants to rub the Longhorns nose in it, then the 4th team will be SMU led by ex-Longhorn Shane Buechele.
By the way, here is the breakdown of the number of teams from each conference who have made it to the college football playoff over the last 6 years (since it started)
- ACC - 7
- SEC - 7
- Big10 - 4
- Big12 - 4
- Pac12 - 2
This list includes Notre Dame as an ACC team, since they play most of their games against ACC teams.
