Had to come in to work for the first time since March to pick up a new laptop that I didn't want. My building is eerily deserted. There's me and one other guy here so far. Once I test out the laptop I'm going back home.

The wildlife seems to like the new reality. I saw some deer and a skunk running around the grounds.

Covid has now dominated two Presidential debates. It got another whole segment last night. Supposedly it's the number one issue voters are concerned with -- pretty amazing.

It is amazing. I couldn't care less about it except in terms of everything needs to open back up and I couldn't care less about masks and social distancing. Get back to normal. Masks and SD are not normal.

mchammer, I believe and expect the decline to continue.

But everytime there is a blip in the case numbers, the lying heads on TV scream about a third wave in 2 weeks. It's always in 2 weeks. But they NEVER review their weekly 2 week predictions.

I have read the IFR has decreased to where it is now equivalent to flu. Isn't it time to quit the hysteria?

mchammer, the peak is probably higher and the trough we are in now probably lower. But either way. We're done.

this is exactly what I was saying all summer about what will happen if they didn't reopen schools. To the financially better off students they will not be impacted as much as the poor broken family kids. They will never catch up.

Anyone who actually thought about the issue honestly for 5 minutes knew closing schools was harmful to children and the poorer the more harmful.

I went to a restaurant Saturday with the wife. We watched this guy try to bring his family into the restaurant (wife + 2 kids) without masks. There were "masks required" signs all over the place. When the college-aged kid who was seating people told him he was required to wear a mask, he began to argue. He asked her if the air conditioning was on. She said "yes". He said, "well then we're all breathing the same air". She said it was a city ordinance. He continued to argue with this kid who was probably making $10/hour, if that. Finally this old woman who was waiting to be seated screamed at him "if you don't like it leave"! He and his family all pulled masks out of their pockets. The wife and kids and put them on. He kind of loosely held his in front of his face. She seated them. What a jerk to cause a scene like that knowing that they were going to have to don mask to get in.

My Italian friend says the theory on the Swedes is that they are naturally anti-social. They live alone, dont go visit their parents, stuff like that

If you can’t find it in the news, then likely not.

Overwhelmed for real or overwhelmed because of headline-grabbing fear-mongers like we see in El Paso?

Would be interesting to see how many in El Paso are coming in from Mexico. Not surprising for a hospital to be full if it’s serving the northern part of an entire country.

Mayor was on Varney this morning, said something like 25% was traceable to border crossings. He indicated border had been restricted to necessary crossings only - that must be a mess. Also said they were setting up some tents and the Convention Ctr for processing.
Since they have large military presence there (Ft Bliss) I was surprised no mention of them. Plus when they say they have all these admission to ICU etc they never say the % that are Covid, guess we are to assume it is 100%.
Regardless it is a mess there.

Whatever happened to all those Secret Service agents, condemned to die from the Wuhan virus after President Trump when on the car ride to thank his supporters?

Wasn’t there some doctor at the hospital, who broke every medical confidentiality rule out there, and hysterically warned that they would all need to be quarantined for weeks and still had a good chance of death?

Dude also said to focus on the number of tweets by President Trump as a true guide to his health, and warned of imposter postings to keep appearances up.

In a just world, after having been fired for breach of ethics, you’d see him once a year doing the pin prick blood draws when your company does the health screening.

My hospitals in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas are not overwhelmed. Last week, I did get a call from a facility in Alabama that saw a small spike in cases requiring vents (simply very sick people) that dropped over the weekend.

In Nashville, Covid fear continues on the news, but not at the hospital level. The break is coming in a week in my opinion.
