I enjoy watching the smaller school games like the MAC, Sun Belt, etc over the SEC, BIG 10 games involving the ESPN darlings...So sick of listening the announcers cream all over the Bama, tOSUs, etc....Just call the game and leave your bias ******** out of it !!!! Watching Texas State and Arky State because I am tired of listening to how good tOSU is or Florida, etc....etc...
While I'm at it on my soap box....
ESPN talking heads....Why is the Big 12 out of the title talks ?? A&M is first one out at #5 ? They got their asses handed to them by Bama. OSU lost a dogfight to Texas in OT. yet OSU is an after thought to ESPN ????? WTH ?
I'm ready to say screw major college football. Its too damn political. I'll enjoy the real sport of football in the lower classifications.

Big 12 is considered "out" because pollsters and comittee members have always been the same - bowl system, BCS, or playoffs. A prestigious team name is one of the main factors in your ranking and selection status.

If the Big 12's lone 1-loss team was named Texas or Oklahoma, they'd be solidly in the race. Since it's named something else, they aren't.

Strength of schedule, quality of loss, losing early or late, quality wins, none of those are as consistent year to year as program prestige is for determining who is in and who is out.

Yep. I suspect my future fandom will move towards the smaller schools. Because that's what's going to be actual college football. The bigger schools are fast becoming semi-pro teams.

Perhaps not even "semi" but full blown pro.

ESPN is the biggest bandwagon group of yahoos.
SEC, SEC, B10, B10 over and over
I have watched very little Gameday this year for the first year ever.

The B12 hasn’t played for a national championship in over ten years, and hasn’t won one in fifteen. The OU spot in the playoff is the advantage the #1 team receives, as it’s more or less a bye. OU had nearly half a hundred hung on them last year before halftime against LSU.

Since the Texas NC win of the 2005 season, I think all but 4 NC have been won by SEC teams - OSU, FSU, and Clemson twice.

They are clearly the dominant conference in college football.

If you want to be the man, you have to beat the man. Position open for applicants. Losing to TCU isn’t the way to apply.

In '13 Auburn led with 20+ seconds to go. Clemson scored with 2 seconds left to win in '16. SEC not that far from 12/14. Deal with it.

I'm really enjoying the Liberty vs. NC State game. The smaller schools have the same vibe that P5 had 20 years ago. Hustle. Grit. Playing for a scholarship, their school, and love of the game.

The good news is the Big 12's days are numbered. Texas will have options. We've got an awfully big stadium to fill. So our new home needs to feature some intriguing matchups.

Our pampered jocks are as good as other schools’ pampered jocks (well, mostly) and soon they will all be paid.
Of course most of them could not get into our school were they not great athletes but who cares?

we have allowed a beast to thrive and now it has turned its gaze on us

what happens if OU/Texas turns into a OSU/Indiana routine?

we still paying the big bucks to watch that?

Want ESPN to stop its incessant focus on SEC, Clemson and Ohio State then freaking do something about it, losing to TCU and crapping the bed constantly against OU is not a formula for changing the status quo. ESPN would love for Texas to be relevant, hell they pay us gobs of money every year with our own damn network that they run. Be honest, ESPN wants nothing more than for Texas to step up and then they would market the hell out of it because money talks and that would monetize their investment in the LHN. ESPN's focus on the SEC is because that's who wins and that's where the money is. Until Texas changes that narrative they have no financial incentive to do anything else.

Yeah. Things were so much better when the media constantly pumped up Notre Dame instead of the SEC.

As you mentioned, all the big-time schools will be (overtly) paying their players in a few years. Which means the grit and school spirit many of us enjoyed will be watered down even more. For recruits, college football will be nothing but a business deal with the hopes of a bigger business deal 3 years later.

This is why I believe UT will be heading to greener pastures in 2025. Because the internal passion for the traditions of college football has diminished (for the bigger schools at least), I expect those schools to compensate by looking outward.

This means securing payday above all else. Followed by securing the best conference scheduling each week to maintain interest in the program...regardless of on-field performance.

ESPN does have a love affair with the SEC and rightfully so. The SWC and Big 8 had TV contracts in front of them The SWC rejected the startup nertwork in favor of the more established Raycom. The SEC chose the startup, thus ESPN entered the college football business.

Something else our HC doesn't understand, people of integrity remember the people that helped them on the way up.
