Is there anyone besides UM you'd like to see here?

I love Texas football, though my first love will always be the baseball team. I love the clean image we've had and I have some concerns about Urban Meyer and whether he can win while maintaining this image. I genuinely hope there are some ethics clauses in any contract he was offered. (Note, I fully expect some players might start getting treated differently which could lead them to quit under Meyer, and I don't necessarily have a problem with that. I am talking about winning the "right" way)

Is there anyone else you'd be "happy" with taking the reins of this program? I considered Dabo, but I don't know that we could get him. Someone on another thread mentioned Briles, which if that happened, I would probably stop watching Texas football. I just don't know who else is out there, established, with the right pedigree...Give me some names to research! :)

All of this is assuming Tom is on the way out of course.

    My #1 is Meyer

Some other people to at least look at if we can’t get Meyer (of course some of these might also turn us down):

    Shanahan
    Dykes
    Napier
    Kiffen
    Stoops
    Campbell
    Mangino

Here’s some names for you to research that aren’t mentioned anywhere on the board-
Billy Napier, Hugh Freeze, Jamey Chadwell, Luke Fickell, Shane Beamer, Steve Sarkisian, Kliff Kingsbury, Matt Rhule, Chris Petersen.

9 names to have some fun with that probably aren’t being considered.

Thats it. Might as well stick with Herman another year if we're going to settle for a JV coach. We have that already.

I’d actually put Mangino as #2 behind Meyer.

Son, per your comment, has he actually been offered the job as well as a contract?

I genuinely hope there are some ethics clauses in any contract he was offered.

Only one of your nine I would give serious consideration to is Luke Fickell, but he should get the Michigan or State Penn job if he wants either, otherwise he'll likely get ND.

We burned the Chris Petersen bridge, or should I say Mack made damn sure he would never take the job..

I'd rather have Herman five more years than Shane Beamer for five minutes.

Kingsbury? And we have people bitching about Briles; I'll refer you to Baker Mayfield, and the Brewer family.

Love Sonny and his family, and actually advised him & Spike on a couple of jobs he interviewed for, but not sure he wants to put up with our crap.

Freese is an overrated HS coach, and not a very good HS coach, not to mention he cheats his *** off

Kyle is a good choice, who has been discussed and considered. I would prefer Meyer, but Kyle is a good backup plan.

I don’t want Chris Simms as a QB coach. I’d take Colt (but he’s busy) or Major (but he likely wants an HC somewhere.

Sorry, mis-typed, should've been "he is offered."

Problem with Shanahan (while I like him) is he doesn’t value the run game to finish games, just like Herman. That philosophy alone cost Falcons and Niners a SB.

I think Bryan Kelly and Gary Patterson would both win with the talent at Texas.

Luke Fickell should be considered if Urban isn’t hired. A good Ohio State coordinator is what we need. Oh wait a second. Is Cincinnati in same conference as Houston?

Patterson is married to Fort Worth and there aren't any "divorce lawyers" that good.

I would trust Art Briles with a hundred cents of my last dollar before I would trust Kelly with a penny of my last ten million.

I don’t know why we are discussing this. CDC will not fire Herman if UM is not already locked-in.

Criticism of Steve Sarkisian? Other than it didn't work out at USC? Watching the Alabama game this weekend made me think he could be the man. Saban certainly liked him...

Ok, I get that on Kelly but is there more of a sleaze ball than UM? Other than AB, I would say no.

Saban assistants aren't faring too well as HCs, particularly against him

To be totally non PC, if he is Mormon, that's a killer in a lot of inner city homes for recruiting. He may not be, but BYU converts some Christian players.

Oh, yeah. I remember now. But what if that issue is no longer an issue? People do turn those things around. Sometimes permanently. Sure seems to be firing on all cylinders now ...

Sabre, Apparently he has a Catholic background. At least per this article; haven't done much research.

It may not come down to what CDC does or doesn't want to do. We should have an idea of what will shortly. Should be interesting to say the least.

My current feeling is that unless we get the following, we should reluctantly stand pat:

    Saban
    Meyer
    Swinney

Problem with Saban and Swinney, even with the very small chance they would listen to Texas, is it could be February before Texas could even announce the hire. That would mean the 2021 recruiting class could be a waste and on the back foot with the 2022 class.

THIS...we are not going to get a third POTENTIALLY winning coach in here...we are blue bloods that have lost our way and need to get a PROVEN winner....not someone that was good playing a lower caliber thinking they can compete at Texas...or, we'll be doing this AGAIN in four years....

I AM NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER, HERE!!!

Dabo's annual salary is $9.3 million. Will be be willing to come here and completely start over for the same amount?

Saban pulls down $8.6 million. We (reportedly) had a shot at him after the 2013 season, screwed it up, and ended up with Chucky. He may want more to rebuild the program and git rid of the riff-raff in the program.

No telling what Meyer will want. May be in the 9 to 10 million range, but he'll do a good job and has been successful wherever he's been. And he has the skins on the wall to show it. There are questions about potential infractions.

Mario Cristobal, but some people want him.

Kyle may sound like a good option, but how would he do at recruiting? He may be good, he may be bad, we simply don't know.
