I don't think the Iowa State players looked like 4* or 5* recruits. They just played better team football than we did.

Wow...my first thought is aggy and A. We are acting. sounding, and looking at least as bad as them (though I believe Urban>Fisher and there won't be trumpets, NC plaques and red carpet) and B. Wow.. mistakes do cost you and more than one mistake costs even more

    And they were better coached.
There is no reason we should have lost that game.
With a little over 4 minutes left and the lead we should have been running the ball (which we seemed able to do), moveing the chains and burning the clock.
I think we ran it once, then a 40 yard sideline pass (incomplete), another pass (incomplete) and give back the ball.
    It was ridiculous.

Do we blow our wad and go for one of the greatest college football coaches ever or hire the coach (and who might that be) that will get us to OU's level year in and year out. I'd say OU is always showing up, each and every year. They may not be at Clemson, Ohio State or Alabama's level but it would seem we should be able to rack up 11-1 years in this conference without going all out for UM.

But again, who is that mystery man?

Would be nice to see some offensive efficiency again
Using oFEI ranking, Texas from 2012 to today has averaged 58th overall in oFEI and under Herman have averaged 44 (109, 25, 13, 28). I think most would agree we lack both execution and quality playcalling over this entire period

    At tOSU, Meyer's offenses were
    2012: 32
    2013: 3
    2014: 2
    2015: 22
    2016: 21
    2017: 4
    2018: 5
His offenses were basically either top 5 or in the 20s. With an average of 13 (and the two in the 20s were Tim Beck, lol)
Talent and execution at the same time should make a big difference for us

It's like everything turned around offensively when they hired that hotshot OC away from Iowa St back in 2011.

Orangebloods - Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (The moment is now ...)

" .... This is a moment of truth that will be remembered for its outcome for what could amount to decades. At a time when Oklahoma is going for its sixth straight Big 12 title, LSU is coming off a national title and Texas A&M is on the cusp of a playoff spot with its best team since the 1990s, it's time for the Longhorns to join their surrounding neighbors at the big boy's table in college football.

A decade of sitting at the kid's table and watching the adults do adult things is enough.

Also, unlike in 2013 when the pursuit of Alabama head coach Nick Saban was knocked off its axis before anyone could ever truly know what Saban would do if the Longhorns had made a stunning financial offer, there's no complications of the current favorite target being in the middle of a championship season or a legendary head coach who can filibuster the days away in front of an administration that feels helpless in calling him in from the road.

Meyer is there for the taking ... a free agent with whom Texas can not only strike a deal (in theory), but his presence on the Fox national studio show through December 19 means that if the Longhorns can land Meyer, they could have a free national advertisement for the program for any of the remaining three Saturdays left in the regular season if they can do it somewhat quickly.

After what easily amounts to the worst decade of football in the modern era of the program, you're damn right we're at a major moment of truth.

Say whatever you want about Chris Del Conte's bungling of Herman's contract or his inaction over The Eyes of Texas for weeks and months at a time, if he finds a way to close the deal with one of only two certifiable sure-things in the world of college football (no, I don't count Dabo) his legacy as Texas as an athletic director will be cemented, as it will represent the most baller thing that the university has ever done in football.

Up until now, the hiring of Mack Brown is the most emphatic hire in the history of the football program in terms of accomplishments before arriving at Texas and he arrived from North Carolina never quite able to be better than Bobby Bowden. Shaka Smart was considered a major coup when he was hired and nothing else quite compares to the hire of Augie Garrido from Fullerton two-plus decades ago.

A hire of Meyer would surpass all of that with relative ease...."

I thought Fenves was solely responsible for Herman’s extension? CDC didn’t make that call....so I’ve read.

IT says it isnt even him

    "What we know:

    — The loss to Iowa State relieved a lot of pressure on the AD and administration. Even if Herman won out, including winning the Big 12, it would not have satiated a good amount of donors. We’ll never truly know if Texas would have removed Herman with an appearance in the conference championship, or even after a win, but the BBs would have begun spilling if he returned next year no matter what. A lot of donor money would have stayed on the sideline.

    — This pursuit requires all hands on deck. We may find out too many cooks are in the kitchen, but a bid like this requires team effort. Athletic director Chris Del Conte isn’t even the point man on the search, that would be school president Jay Hartzell. That’s not to undermine CDC, but this is Hartzell’s show. Hartzell, CDC, and the Board of Regents are all on the same page. The boosters are too. If a full throttled search is needed, CDC will become the point man.

    — The ball is in Urban’s court. He knows he’s wanted. He’s known for a while he’s wanted and he is very interested. He has been interested in the Texas job. This isn’t footsie and it’s not a hand on the thigh. They’re getting to the point where you find out if you’re going home together....."

One last paragraph from that last post^

    — Gerry mentioned a well known agent says Urban is taking the gig. A well known head coach is saying similarly. There’s just no way Meyer would turn down the job at the speculated dollar amount. This coaching source also says Meyer absolutely wants to coach again.

I would imagine at his age he's getting pretty damn bored, but I don't know how bad his arachnoid cyst is. I hope that doesn't keep him away from Texas if he wants to come.
