    From Horns 247 Sports:

Texas head coach Tom Herman met with athletics director Chris Del Conte following a 23-20 loss to Iowa State on Friday that has Herman’s future on the Forty Acres hanging in the balance heading into Saturday’s road trip to Kansas State (11 a.m., FOX). In fact, Herman said he and Del Conte had more than one conversation over the weekend and the embattled leader of the Longhorns discussed the nature of those talks on Monday’s Big 12 coaches teleconference.

“Chris and I have spoken a couple of different times over the weekend,” Herman said. “Very productive conversations. I think he's right along with me in that we've got a job to do to prepare our kids to go win a game in Manhattan, Kansas.”

Herman didn’t directly answer the portion of the question when asked for his level of confidence that Del Conte is still back him as the head coach of the football program. Texas (5-3, 4-3 Big 12) was all but officially eliminated from contention for a berth in the Big 12 title game with the loss to the Cyclones, meaning the second-longest conference championship drought in program history is a virtual guarantee to extend to 11 years since the last time the Longhorns captured the league crown in 2009 on their way to a 13-1 finish and a trip to the BCS title game.

Following the loss to Iowa State, Herman’s record in four seasons at Texas stands at 30-18 overall with a 21-13 mark in Big 12 play. While that’s an improvement over three seasons under Charlie Strong where the Longhorns went 16-21 overall and posted a 12-15 mark in the Big 12, Herman’s current ledger is similar to Mack Brown’s over his final four seasons on the job when a 30-22 overall record included an 18-17 mark in conference games.

This story is developing and will be updated.......END

You can watch it on Texassports.com - it's painful. Looks like he's already been told he's done... I think every answer was - "Just trying to go 1-0 this week"

If that isn't bad enough, several posters around here actually have defended it.

Living in Seattle I am reassured of my mental capabilities hourly....so I don't listen to people that defend questionable actions....I can remember the moment he did it and my mouth dropped open...then, he went after Gundy after losing to OSU....ugh...

I can't answer that specifically, but the starch is definitely gone. Not much air left in him. He blinked a lot and swallowed a lot, even when not drinking water.

Watched it a couple of times. He dodged the questions about his future saying he’s focused on the KSU game. And said he and CDC had a good talk, but no detail. When a coach makes those responses, it generally means they are toast.

I believe it was the "secure the bag" move, but, nonetheless...
Now he can secure the bag and ride off into the burnt orange sunset much like those big-bag toting CEOs do after they run companies into the ground and still get $$$$$

Wonder if UT will pursue the rumors of day drinking to negotiate the buyout.

I did so and will continue to do so. Drew Lock himself admitted that if his own coach had done it, he'd have loved it. If you want to take up the arms of offense for Drew that he declined to take up for himself, have at it. Missouri's entire team was disrespecting us and talking trash all week long, while we just shut our mouths and went to work. And then during the game they got all cocky even while they were still losing, and got their just desserts.

And that's the same standard I'd have for anyone. If OU players had started flexing to mock Chris Brown, and Lincoln Riley merely flexed back at his own players and grinned, I'd have had no issue with it and strongly suspect most of this board would have agreed Chris deserved it. Now if he'd, say, come out on the field and flexed while pointing at our defense, I would have had a problem. And I'm pretty sure we've been through this before, and we disagree, and that's ok. Reasonable people can do so. But to go from "I'm in the camp that had an issue with it" to "What's really awful about this is that some people disagree with me!" is not reasonable.

Drew Lock is a douchecanoe, so who cares if his dumb *** would like it? I mean, besides you because you are defending it still. :fiestanana:

And I mean after all the other things that TH has done and said since the summer, that's why I can't believe people still defend it. But, it's okay if they do. Just not for me.

...a coach representing the University of Texas should not be doing such and should discourage players from doing such....imo...it's childish!

He was upbeat, rather cordial with the press. Tom said he met with CDC and they had a "very productive conversation" whatever that means. So far a couple of guys Cosmi, and later Stearns, have opted out of the rest of the season. Any question that hinted at his job security or him being shown the door at any point in time, he replied that he, the other coaches and the team are focused on preparations for the KSU game. Seems that any time a coach under fire says they are focusing on the next game and or getting to a bowl game, usually disappear into the night and fog at season's end.
