You guys like this series, or want me to stop?

My wife and I walked out of the Cotton bowl completely defeated and pissed at what we saw by this school and it’s “leaders”.

Saturday represents an absolute failure of leadership of this coaching staff and the administration. The University of Texas turned its back on Sam Ehlinger who has been a Longhorn for all of his life. I stand with Sam.

Until Tom Herman is removed as head coach and the false narrative surrounding the Eyes of Texas is addressed, I will not renew my season tickets or make any donations to the University of Texas.

Tom Herman needs to be fired immediately.”

"In an email sent from Vice President of University Development Scott Rabenhold to Hartzell and several other high-ranking Texas officials, Rabenhold brought up a letter that circulated among donors with the general message of: “We’re not leaving UT … UT is leaving us.”

The author of the letter sent a copy around to other alumni of the school asking them to sign it before it was sent to Hartzell. The letter does not bring up any specific issues, but it does come in the wake of The University dealing with a list of athlete demands in regard to The Eyes of Texas and later the school’s band refusing to play at football games in protest of the song.

“Bottom line…if UT is willing to allow current students and faculty to shape the future direction of the school based on false narratives, then it will cost UT the support from significant and prominent alumni who will not subsidize this direction. We have been aware of the trend for some time, but the breaking point has arrived. We are not leaving UT……UT is leaving us.

The primary sources for UT’s funding are facing serious challenges currently. State budget shortfalls, economic headwinds in energy markets and expenses associated with managing the Covid-19 virus are all feeding into this. Now is not the time to be losing financial support from those that have loyally and consistently been there for UT thru the years. Why would donors continue to provide financial support to a university that is promoting and encouraging causes to which they are diametrically opposed? It is our desired hope that you and the administration understand the concerns and position of many of UT’s donors and will take the necessary steps required to maintain UT Austin as a respected flagship university.”
Rabenhold said the perspective of the letter is “consistent” with what he’s hearing at the top of a department focused on fundraising for the University. He added in that email to Hartzell and other officials:

    Additional Notes:
He sent the original email that was eventually forwarded to Bob Rowling (attached and that stated – This professor in charge of the “team” that tells us whether the song is racist or not? His Twitter account is filled with race bating and cry baby BLM junk. UT better get it together and use its brains not this biased “victim” professor at UT!
His opinions are uniformed and inaccurate, but his message will/is resonating.

If Urban is recruiting current Buckeye coaches for his staff, as some have mentioned, then it makes since for him to keep it all on the down low until the season is over. I think CDC knows and just waiting for the right moment.

I think it's interesting to see that school donors were saying the same things to CDC, Hartzell and others that many of us were saying in here, even as those threads were getting moved off the football board

    “Jay and Chris,

I wanted to reach out to voice my disappointment over the current state of the football team, athletics in general, and the issue with The Eyes of Texas. First, the football program continues to be a complete mess. I think it's rather obvious we need a new head coach. However, the handling of The Eyes of Texas by Coach Herman, and the administration is a much larger issue. It has now infected the band, cheerleaders, and other sports. While not a season ticket holder, I do have a 7 figure donation to UT in my estate plans. I have instructed my estate attorney to remove that donation language until these issues are resolved.

Seeing Sam Ehlinger as the only player singing the school song was both disappointing and sad. Seeing the other 84 players run into the tunnel after losing to our rival is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen. I don't really blame the players, they're idiots just like I was at 20. Herman has cultivated an US vs Them mentality to the locker room, and US does not include the fans. His leadership, and your leadership on the issue, has been severely lacking. What I believe should be the next steps:

Herman needs to be fired immediately. He facilitated this mess, and is a bad football coach to boot. He doesn't have the locker room equity to ask or make players stay for the Eyes.
Bring in Urban Meyer. He does have enough equity to make players stay for the Eyes. They can transfer if not.
Mandate that any student organization plays/stays/puts horns up for the Eyes or they will be removed from that team or organization.
In summation, The Eyes is bigger than any student, football player, cheerleader or band member. I am deeply disappointed in the current state of affairs, and how they've been handled to this point. I would honestly rather have the football team disbanded than the Eyes and fans not be respected by players. Every alum I know is either angry or apathetic. Many are actively rooting against this team. The football program is at an all-time low. However, I do believe this can be fixed. I hope you rise to the occasion.”

That sums up “The Eyes” problem as good as anything I’ve read.

Similar to Schiano. He might be able to get the job done, but the freak out by folks would be deafening

There is a reason Meyer is on Fox. He wants to be out there to stay relevant so he can coach again. Other than the money, when he wins a NC here, he will have surpassed Saban as winning a NC at 3 different schools. So he'll definitely be considered the best ever in my opinion.
This has to be a done deal. Just waiting for KSU to be played or maybe even KU.

Just think how much the agent(s) for Saban, Dabo, Kelly, Day, Jimbo, Smart, Riley and a few of the next tier HCs to churn out those contract extension commitments to the ADs in the next two weeks once anything is announced regarding Texas.
Better to pre-empt than to get into a bidding contest.

Part of the Burton mid-morning update

".... In the discussions, Meyer has made clear to Texas that money will not be the ultimate deciding factor. Rather, it is primarily about the hard-charging Meyer deciding if he wants to “return to the grind” that made him so successful on the sidelines.

It is also important to note that the courting of Meyer is being handled by Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and his staff, with the full support and oversight of Texas president Jay Hartzell and Texas board of regents chairman Kevin Eltife. No big money donors are directly in contact with Meyer, instead they are backing the efforts of Del Conte, Hartzell and Eltife.

As for an expected timeline for a response from Meyer, there is some hope it would come not later than Sunday but even that is not a definitive deadline, as the Horns have their sights on Meyer. Meyer will be given the time he needs to make a decision...."

Burton finally getting close to the truth. It was never about the money, but rather certain things Meyer thinks he has to have to do his job. Those are negotiable and "in talks"

We’ve got some time. TH can coach through Kansas. Then maybe a week or two after that before the situation gets desperate. UM holds all the cards.

As I keep saying, Texas cannot hire a new HC while they still employ a HC, Herman.

I’ll be surprised if a) Herman isn't terminated, and b) Meyer isn’t hired. My prediction continues to be that Herman is jettisoned Sunday and Meyer is introduced Monday or perhaps Tuesday.
