This is beginning to remind me of the Ricky vs Earl debate
After some research, I discovered all the UT grads who say Ricky was the best all time were not even born until the 80s or 90s. They never saw Earl run in college live and in person
Thus, I suspect, it goes with the Jackie vs. Barry debate
Not to say Sherill wasn't a cheater, he was, no doubt
It's just that Barry did more than just cheat at recruiting - he made Art Briles, Joe Pa walking past the team shower, and Bill Clements all seem tame

My sense is that UT grads who defend Barry are almost exclusively Cowboys fans too. Does this apply to you?

Bootlegger’s Boy is the best football autobiography ever. As Paterno said, “I don’t think Barry understands how revealing this book actually is”

i re read it every few years

Darrell and Fred stood no chance and their greatness is reflected in how many times they won in spite of it all

There are very charismatic people in every profession. Very likable, charming, witty, and very fun to be around.
When you find people like that that are rotten to the core, like Barry, a lot of people can get fooled, cheated and disappointed.

And yet, to my recollection, they have continued to be an ESPN et al darling to this day.

how can you trust or respect someone that is a cheater? I f you would cheat on one thing you will cheat on everything. I never met Hilter, Stalin or a lot of current politicians either.

I am afraid I am going to have to side with DKR on this issue.

Not really. Don't like their personnel, their owner, or the coach. If I have a choice of watching them or the Kirby Kretin Korp, I'll watch the Cowboys, but then, I would watch Boling vs VanVleck over the NFL. If anything I am a Saints fan because of Drew Breese, John Mecom, and Mrs Benson. Also, the Chiefs because of Lamar Hunt and his history of following Texas High School football.

I like Switzer, the blacks related to him and he can flat out coach. I however wouldn't trust him at all especially in business. If a man cheats at something small, he’ll definitely cheat at something big.

A while back, I found out something about Switzer. My wife's grandmother was from Crossett, Arkansas, and has known Barry Switzer for years. She knew him when he was growing up. His father had a bootlegging operation in the woods, a big one. She was already a student at Arky when he showed up there in the next year or two. She said he was on the football team, was arrogant, and she didn't like him. I ask her if she dated him, and she said, "I said knew him! I didn't like the son-of-a-*****! Hell, nobody does if they're honest about it."

A good con artist can always make people believe him. Otherwise he could not be a con artist. Heck, some of them can even get caught in bed with someone’s wife and have everybody around them look the other way, to eventually include the husband.

Agreed and I never cheated at golf despite my poor golf skills and my "need" to play fairly often for business. I wanted to set a good example and to "not cheat" led to some miserable moments but I "picked up" after 8 strokes (by agreement). Truthfully it was good decision on my part, but I picked after 7 strokes (or three beers).

Will Rodgers never met Barry Switzer.

Sims was a junior in '78. The NFL didn't start drafting underclassmen until '83 or '84. Was he going to Canada?

He said it to the media. They didn’t question it. Maybe you should be working for ABC, NBC, or CBS. Or perhaps the answer to your question is Al Davis.

The fact is NFL rules didn't allow for drafting underclassmen. Davis drafting him would have been pointless.

I'm not defending Switzer. I just think there are a lot of coaches who are just as dirty.

Nothing Al Davis ever did was "pointless". He had more control of the NFL than Roselle (sp) did or than Jerry does now. Never liked the guy or his team (I did like Warren Wells), but he had a mind of his own and did what he wanted.
