Agree 100% with orange shogun that cdc bears responsibility for mishandling of BLM demands. Many on this board think it was all Herman. Cdc was complicit in it. Just read the June 10 forty acres insider. It’s still out there. Cdc lectures the fan base about systemic racism and then says we need to rally to the cause of BLM. I sent him an email asking him if he knows what the organization BLM represents and stands for and got no response. He had done a good job up to that point but lost me at that point.

Lots of you think CDC is pretty smart and he may be. However he doesnt show much common sense. Most people in his position would not put up with a person working under them making the company and the supporters of the company look bad. He should realize Herman will never get the fans or the players he has lost back.Either CDC doesnt care or maybe he is looking to moving on himself. If he thinks Herman will change his ways then he doesnt know much about reading people. Herman will never apoligize and will never accept the fact he made a mistake.

    MARY, MOTHER OF GOD...........SMH......

You hit that nail on the head. How much longer are we gonna go down this "hot Group of 5" list of coach's???? WTF??? Just who is the 'hottie' that folks want to add to get us the Charlie Strong-Tom Herman-TBD tri-fecta?

It's a little like the Dallas Mavericks in the early 1990's hiring Quinn Buckner as Head Coach. As a player he had won a State Championship, an NCAA Championship and an Olympic Gold Medal. However, he had never coached a single basketball game. At any level. AAU, grade school, high school. Nothing. He went 11-71.

Think of it like a toothache. If you need a dentist. Go see a damn dentist. Not someone who KNOWS a dentist. Or Quinn Buckner. I knew Tom Herman wasn't the answer 4 years ago and I still know he is not the answer. But I do know to call a dentist and not Quinn Buckner.

And most people don't have a guaranteed contract to be paid $15 million if they are fired either. The right move needs to be made and with the damage that's already done, a few more weeks won't matter. If he's here thru next season then that's a whole other can of fish to open.

yelladawg, if true you deserve much credit, but you were in a tiny minority. Most of us thought that Herman was a can’t miss. All of us were wrong but few could have predicted the immaturity, poor judgment and bad in-game decisions.

As I have said many times, the next great Texas HC is out there, right now. The challenge is finding him.

The Strong selection was politically motivated, good or bad. I’m not making a judgment. Just stating what I believe to be true. That’s what Powers wanted.

Herman was a miscalculation, by almost everyone.

We’re in a slump. It’s not the first time. I tend to believe that our next HC will be a pleasant surprise. And frankly, I can’t wait.

    Duke,

I assure you that it is true. Yelladawg & I are friends. (Great guy by the way) When I told him Herman was the pick, I distinctly remember him telling me "I hope you're right, but I don't think so".

So how much money will be saved in a few weeks? How many new recruits will we lose in a few weeks? How many more donors will quit giving money?Seems to me CDC lets Herman win a bowl game and gives him an excuse not to fire him. That seems to be the master plan some folks are talking about.

This recruiting class was lost last July, about thirty minutes after Herman lost HIS team. Another day, week, month aren't going to make any difference. GETTING THE RIGHT COACH MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

The portal has changed the recruiting process, and if not stopped, will destroy it.

SH-I agree our recruiting class is gone. I was one of the ones on the Herman train and was wrong. I agree we should try to find the right coach. Do we know if there will be this magical coach next year? I dont see much change next year from right now. Our choices are limited now just like they will be in one year. We are not going to get dabo, meyer, stoops or Saban. Anyone else we would be after is available now.Is the wait for money alone? I believe we should cut out the cancer now and not wait for the pie in the sky of next year.

Money is not the issue, because Herman will cost us far more money in donations if he is still around. The numbers can be mind boggling

    I could not agree more.

So if money is not the issue (and I accept the likelihood that it isn’t), and CDC understands that the cancer needs to be removed (and I have to believe that he does), what is his calculation in waiting to fire Herman? What is the upside?

There’s no effect of recruiting. The early period has come and gone. Keep more current players who would otherwise leave the program? I would think not.

The only strategy coming to mind — if the two assumptions above are correct — would be to keep the press off the story. By doing so, CDC could (I suppose) conduct his search somewhat (?) incognito.

Other than that, the delay baffles me. Someone please enlighten me.

In my career,I had to judge peoples actions by what they did and not what they said.I dont think CDC has any intention of firing Herman this year. I dont know why he has decided that but I feel he has. If he was going to fire Herman he would be gone by now. Logically it makes no sense for him to still be here. Folks say it is not the money. Well if that is the case then CDC does not want the firing on his record. I still think he is looking for another job. I like duke would like someone to enlighten me.

You can't fire the coach without a replacement. I believe exactly opposite of you. I believe something is still going on or the BMD's would be raising hell however I also believe the plan is not guaranteed to work or they would fire Herman now. Him staying is the backup plan regardless of the bowl outcome. That is what would be my problem if he is back next year because the plan failed yet again.

Thats nonsense. How many teams fire cocaches every year without a replacement? What plan? Do you know of a plan? The plan is to keep Herman, thats the plan

Yeah, sure. Fire Herman and end up with another ******* dud. I dont know of some grand plan, but I do know Texas donors are incapable of keeping their mouths shut when they're pissed about football. When UM said no, they went eerily quiet which leads me to believe something is still going on. Again, maybe not UM, but something.

I could be wrong and if so I'll be just as mad as you. For now I'm going to sit tight for the next couple weeks.

Your observation about the BMDs is a good one. The silence.

The suspense is killing all of us but what choice do we have? None. But something is up...

I'm thinking that CDC and Meyer have an agreement after the season so the delay is mostly on the part of Meyer maybe he has obligations to keep or maybe he's waiting for certain assistants to become available. I'm not sure but I have a notion that it's all about Meyer and him needing more time

That is plausible and maybe likely. Not saying it’s UM, seems likely though. All we can do is wait.

I don't think there is any agreement between CDC and Meyer. I'm taking everyone at face value. Meyer isn't ready to return to coaching; CDC has said Herman will be here next year. That's what I see happening.
As for our recruiting class, it pales in comparison to the top teams-Alabama, Clemson, OSU, even A&M. But it's not awful. It should allow us to finish second in the Big XII, play in the title game, get whipped and go to a decent bowl game. Yeah, that sucks, compared to where we want to be. But honestly, it's where Texas usually is. I'm beginning to think the Horns are a mirror of my golf game--I'm just not as good as I think I am. Being delusional has it's perks.

Since when was it ever prudent to take Meyer at face value. And CDC never said Herman was coming back. CDC said he’s still our coach as of the end of the regular season and CDC said it’s his policy to not evaluate coaches and make changes until the season is over (i.e. after the NCG).

If Shaka wins this year CDC will point to that as a reason to keep Herman. A reason to stay the course and be patient. That isn't happening, as the conference is just too strong this year. Shaka will lose to Kansas, WVU, Tech, and Baylor for sure. Throw in a loss or two to either OU, TCU, KSU, ISU on the road and we are 5th, 6th, or 7th in a 10 team conference. We can point to softball and women's basketball ( maybe ) as reason to pink slip losers and hire winners. I will say Shaka's Horns are, thus far, more fun to watch this year.

This statement nails it. Not only did he pissoff a portion of the fans with his remarks, he came close to losing the respect of a number of players on the team.

The two are not tied together in spirit or fact. CdC never said Herman was coming back, and there is no way to twist his statement to fit your narrative. Smart's buyout, while big by most schools' budgets, is not in the same league as Herman's.

That's what I understood. The bowl game is on Dec. 29th I think. Might get a definite yea or nay answer the next day or soon afterward. Until I hear it come from CDC's mouth, Tom's the HC.

Joe, he listened to the captains not named Ellighner, who, after intimidating the younger players, have now bailed on the team.

Exactly. He listened to a few malcontents who happened to be team leaders and, from my perspective, became one of them. Unfortunately though, for now he is the Head Coach. At least, until someone, like CDC tells me otherwise.

Apples - Oranges. Shaka didn’t throw Longhorn Nation under the bus; Shaka’s team didn’t abandon him; and Shaka isn’t an arrogant a**.

Show me one employee without a high level protective angel or without compromising pictures, that survived throwing their boss under the bus.
