Giants got the ball first. Good kickoff return to midfield. Giants drove down to very easy field goal range, but then, stupidly, tried a trick formation where the kicker tried to pass the ball to the center, who was on the end of the line and therefore an eligible receiver. Not even close. Browns ball. Offensive lineman goes down on second play.

Giants tip the pass on fourth and short for the Browns around midfield, so the Giants get the ball back in good position.

Beautiful pass by McCoy on third and medium . . . Giants drive stalls so this time they do the reasonable thing and kick 37 yard field goal.

So far, Mayfield looks very sharp passing and leads Browns on long drive for TD

Colt just under threw a pass for TD. But the fake FG call earlier was terrible.

    Should be 10-7 Giants

great drive by Colt, but, again, stupidly, the Giants decide to go for it on fourth and two inside the 10 instead of kicking the field goal and they are stopped. fire the coaches. (Giants coaches are coaching like they don't feel they have a chance in a straight up game and so must resort to gimmicks)

With Judge as a coach, forget it. Browns will win even though Giants have outplayed em

Browns make Giants pay for the failed fourth down try--drive the length of the field for a TD right before half, and the Browns get the ball to start the second half. s!*t

Man Colt just doesn't have a big arm at all. He's got great touch but he just can't gun anything in there.

In his defense, he's like 45 now.

34 but seriously though he may still be suffering some effects of that hit in the 09 championship game.

There were at least 3 games I saw yesterday with Texas HS QBs going head-to-head
    NYG v. Clev
    KC v. NO
    AZ v. Philly

How many quarterbacks from Texas have started for NFL teams in the last 10 years and how many played for Texas? And how many went to high school in the Austin area?

Colt actually played really good given the offense the Giants were running and the level of players they have. He has set himself up to make some good money next year based on his play the past four weeks as he will almost certainly find a backup role for next year at 1M plus in pay based on what he has shown. His lifetime earnings are over 13M, not bad for the three star from Tuscola.

The state went through a long stretch with no NFL QBs. I think Tommy Kramer was it for a couple decades. Then there were those dumb brothers, the Detmers. Then it was Brees to Purdue/Chargers (cannot help but wonder how his career might have gone had he not landed with Joe Tiller). But then .... Texas hs coaches en masse switched from the option to the spread and 7-on-7 became legal. Never been the same since.

Besides the 6 QBs who went head-to-head yesterday, if the schedule had lined up perfectly, we could have even had 4 more games with 8 more Texas hs QBs going head-to-head -- all in the same weekend
    Tannehill vs. Dalton
    Foles vs. Stafford
    Carr vs. Daniel
    Keenum vs. David Blough

It's kind of crazy. That's 14 at least part-time starting QBs this season. Plus, Andrew Luck is only 31 as of today. And I think even Josh McCown may still be on a roster.

    LOL..

Beyond that, he did not even have a Clapper-run offense. Since the Clapper was on the 'rona list, that meant the same Freddie Kitchens run off from Cleveland was handling the OC duties. Add in the stupidity of the special teams buffoonery and Colt was destined to fail last night.

I'm glad you said Carr. They always say he's from California, and yes his family is originally from there and he did play his senior year back in Cali, but Derek pretty much grew up in Houston and played through his junior year at Clements HS so I count him as a Texas product too.

In a game he was in a couple of weeks ago, his version of pre-snap yelling "Omaha" was Carr yelling "Harden!"

I thought Colt looked like a good solid backup NFL QB. I could see it argued that if he had Mayfield's running game he would have shined a little more.

It was cool from my side of the Red River seeing Murray v. Hurts followed by Mayfield.

Yeah 3 straight transfer QBs in a row for you guys and all three from Texas.

It's like street ball - make it take it. UT has no divine right to players from this state, but does have an initial advantage. Shows how far UT coaching has fallen in that the last UT QB with NFL playing time graduated 11 years ago - tempered by the fact that Sam has been here for 4 years so fewer QB's.

I suspect that being the backup with Jones completely sidelined combined with the earlier broken leg contributes to fewer design runs for Colt...and then add in a vanilla offense being planned by the TE coach.

That was the disappointing thing for me. Colt has lost a lot of mobility due to the broken leg. He looked slow on scrambles. Without that part of his repertoire, I think he's too limited now. Very sad.

He can still provide maturity, leadership, and some lineup stability...and also cash some checks.
