Those on top of the mountain tend to think that they will stay there forever. Rarely does it work that way.

Awesome. It's like we upgraded from a Honda Accord to a Toyota Camry. I'll check back in 4 years to see who the next guy is. I'll book my room in San Antonio for the next few years.

Based on Herman, you'd have needed standing reservations at the Alamo bowl anyway.

We'll see who the head coach turns out to be. Was pretty clear that after 4 years, Herman wasn't going to do any better than he'd done.

Count me as underwhelmed if it is indeed Sark.
However, he’ll be coming into a good setup with the players Herman has recruited, as long as they don't portal. Hate to see the kids have to learn a whole new system especially after half learning the ones under Ash and Yurcich. If Sark can land some studs (and I mean big time studs) it may be worth it. Time will tell.

Given that there was only one “near sure thing” out there and apparently he wouldn’t come, who would you have preferred?

Herman had to go for the reasons we have discussed as nauseam.

Are you suggesting that “Dude” lacks “Structure?”

I would have accepted one more year...hopefully non covid... with Bijan running and a new QB. This just feels like Strong all over again. Fire the coach out of spite and get the first guy to accept the job. I'll hope for the best but my expectations are pretty low. I guess life is always better that way anyhow.

Understandable. It’s just that Herman alienated so many that he had no political capital and he had to go.

It really takes a Mensa to screw up as much as Herman did to get fired.

More importantly, he was 14-13 in one score games, combined 2-7 vs OU&TCU. if he hadn't alienated himself from the fanbase, he would've been retained.

To think he would have been retained had he not pissed off the BMDs and a great number of fans while having the crappy record against OU and TCU, man that shows how far Texas has sunk.

Strong had to be fired, it wasn't out of spite, as he had the three worst years in a row in all of modern Texas football. Herman was an up and coming coach, and if Texas hadn't hired him, he'd have gone to another top school.

Herman wasn't bad, it just that he wasn't good - I've compared him to Gary Gibbs at OU, brought in to clean up the rotted program that Barry had left them with.

Gibbs led to a partial season under Schenburger, then the John Blake Experience, then onto Stoops. Nothing is guaranteed in life or college football.

I guess Super K did know something
The speculation was then that Bryce Young would come with him
Young was the Quin Ewers of the 2020 class - #1 QB and #1 overall

I mainly agree with you, except TH was better than you are saying. I keep saying the same things, but the topic keeps being repeated, so....

Herman armed the grenade to kill himself last summer, and pulled the pin in allowing the post-OU experience, with Sam E as the juxtaposition, standing by himself.

As for on the field, we just weren't and aren't that far off of where we need to be. A play here or there and we would be in the playoffs. We have good talent, and improved with a new staff. We were far better at the end of the year than the beginning, and that reflects good coaching.

However..... having imploded on the off-the-field issue, the support was gone from everyone in the entire UT nation, so recruiting and money crash and burn. Thus, he has to go, because otherwise, you are betting on next year to be the LSU lightening-in-a-bottle year to stop the falling knife. Better to fire TH, and salvage the progress we did make before it's gone.

Anyway, it's the off-field issues that did him in, and he was actually a pretty good coach--on the pure "football" stuff. He will be very good for another school, just not here.

I briefly discussion Sark's past issues above
No doubt they will be a topic of discussion again in the coming days and weeks

There were multiple public functions where he was there specifically representing the school, and he was observably under the influence, slurring words, glazed eyes, nonsensical statements. People began making recordings. He gave USC no choice. He lost his wife sometime back then too (I think she was from Houston).
    Now 5 years sober.
It would be a risky move, but from my perspective, we were already desperate before his name came up.
