I know his PPG were very low. He fell under my radar last year. Any more information because the stories are cryptic.
The college role at UT just didn't suit his skills. He's not a banger. He's built like the kind of guy who is supposed to play under the rim and pull down boards and be expected to do the dirty work. If you watch HS clips, he's more of a midrange guy. It reminds me of what Barnes wanted Myles Turner to do. I honestly believe that Barnes thought he could turn Turner into some jump-hook, Chris Mihm style guy. And I think that pissed Turner off and it's why he turned it off down the stretch. I think Smart and Baker never saw eye-to-eye about what they wanted him to do, while guys like Sims (who can't really score) and K. Jones do exactly what the coaches want.
Baker was not going to get any meaningful minutes this year. He was basically competing with Hepa for the 4th big man off the bench. (I'm including Cunningham in this rotation w/Hamm & Liddell.)
Baker just wasn’t a program fit and never settled in. His production per minutes knocked him down in depth chart. 27.5 percent from the field, 15.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 33.3 percent from the free-throw line, he clearly needed a level of offensive game development he wasn’t going to get at Texas. Some say UCLA was where he wanted to go but Alford leaving screwed that up for him. Makes sense he transferred to Nevada.
Liddle gone now too. That one's a bit surprising. With SR's and early departures it's going to absolutely wide open next year. Almost certainly Brown and Jones will be gone, and possibly even DW who knows.
