You get better by playing. If he wants to get to the NFL maybe Jalen's best route is to go somewhere where he gets matched against an opponent's top receiver every down.

And I wasn't one of the ones jumping to "the eyes" or whatever...
I just didn't realize he wasn't higher on the depth, had had so many injuries, and that he was playing less than I perceived and having trouble staying up in the rotation.

For the record...as noted by another poster....apparently this desire to transfer isn't final....hard to confirm

The greatest DB class we ever signed is going to go down as a dumpster fire in missed opportunities.

Sterns - I know how everyone on Hornfans feels about him, even though he might be our 2nd draftee taken this year
Foster - Mental case who couldn't decide whether to stay or go
Green - Never lived up to the cover corner hype
Cook - See Foster, except with more missed hits and shuffled to backup duty behind a guy who wanted to leave for USC
Jamison - the lowest rated coming out of HS but arguably the biggest impact

Foster should have been gone when he quit in the middle of a game. I wonder how good that group could have been with Akina.
The faster the malignancy is removed the better. I check daily to see if the original tumor, Mitchel, has transferred. Hopefully Sark will cut him loose on day one.

Jamison is the cat’s meow. Overshown was left off the list and I think he could be coached up and straightened out.

From what I read during recruiting, all of those kids could go anywhere they wanted. The difference between being here and being at Alabama is they expected to be a star here instead of expecting to have a chance for stardom if they worked incredibly hard. Excellence is a combination of where you started and how fast you are improving.

You are really onto something here, Crockett.
I have said before...and I believe the evidence is mounting.. that not only did we have some deficiencies with coaching, but Herman seemed to have success recruiting a certain type of kid (not always but quite often) that wanted to be a quick and easy star. There are many exceptions...but just generalizing here.
And/Or...maybe the kids were capable, and pliable material, but had the wrong things shown them and implied or instilled which led them down the wrong path.
It is a great responsibility being a head coach these days....I think some of the guys must bear responsibility for their less-than-optimal circumstances....but it seems pretty clear the coach failed them overall...again, in general.
One thing that will help tell the tale is when we see what Sark can do with a few of these guys that Herman brought in. My guess is most will flourish under new leadership.
Unfortunately, it is likely too late for others.

When I was a kid and all the neighborhood children would gather to watch TV while the mommies gossiped, the kid whose house we were at would choose the show we watched. Literally every other child picked Mickey Mouse Club but in my house, it was Star Trek baby.

Even then I showed signs of superior intellect. Not sure Kirk and Spock have done much more for me than the stupid mouse did for them, but I don't care.

    Set phasers to stun.

I was thinking about who we have on the edge now
Not knowing the scheme yet makes projections tricky
But if it is the 3-3-5, then it might be Collins/Ojomo on the strong side
On the weak side, it will probably be whoever survives the competition among Bimage, Dorbah and Thornton
Ash played mostly 4-man fronts, but we lost the one suitable edge rusher for the scheme. We dont really have another hand-in-the-dirt edge rusher on the roster

And getting pressure on the QB may be the single most important factor in defending in the Big 12.

It's anarchy. The irony of the portal can be seen in Herman's insistence that we love the players off the field as we do on the field. But who loves a mercenary? In the age of sitting out bowl games and transferring over playing time, it's the love of the university by the fan base that is more paramount than ever. It is the ability to manage mercenaries and not loyal players that matters. Our loyalty is now in the institution more than ever.

Yet it would seem that Herman said the opposite.

It appears Green has decided to hold off until he meets the new DB coach first

Something else about the DB room generally but it might be affecting Green too. Our own WRs are saying "privately" that Kitan Crawford is already our toughest CB to go against in practice. He is still raw but is a physical CB who makes it tough on them. Like all good players, Green wants to play. The addition of Dunn plus the emergence of Crawford might just be Green seeing the writing on the wall.

    Good point.
Could it be more undertandable for those few who have a shot at HIGH draft picks?

Similar story with Tyler Owens (who I would hate to lose), but it doesn't sound like he was quite as far down the road as Green. But its at least a possibility

Owens might make a SS/OLB Hybrid, depending on the new DC’s scheme. He’s really fast, and he’s got size and room to grow.

We have to at least give him a chance before he portals out to become a 2nd round pick for someone else

My hope and expectation is that with the new staff it's a clean slate across the board and everyone should walk into Spring ball with a chance to show what they've got. If a player is thinking about the portal due to past playing time, they should have the faith and confidence they can come in and earn playing time. If it's for something else, here's the door...
