    That stinks. I had no idea the rest of those guys had died too. Very sad that we're losing such greats. They just don't seem that old.

    One of the very greatest in the history of baseball. Still holds the all-time record for RBI. And played all-out every day. We won't see another like him for a long time. RIP, Hank.

    In ~1972 I saw him hit a line drive over the shortstop’s head that Roger Metzger nearly snagged. The ball landed about four rows deep in the mezzanine. There were no cheap homers in the Dome back in the day.
    Got to shake his hand at the winter meetings in Houston in the early 80’s.
    RIP Henry. You will be missed.

    He retired just ahead of me becoming baseball conscious in the late 70's so I only saw him from the highlights but I read his autobiography in junior high and what he overcame was extraordinary. The incredible backlash and racism he faced while chasing the Babe is hard to believe in modern society but he persevered, In my mind he is still the true home run king.

    An incredible baseball player but an even more incredible human being!
