I remember Dallas had a short first and goal and could have tied it up at the end of the game, but Jim Boeke moved and got Dallas a 5-yard penalty. That made it a long first and goal. Meredith dropped back to pass on first down and threw an interception, costing Dallas the game. I think that play gave birth to the film clip you used to see a lot of Landry turning around with a look of unbearable pain on his face. It was a real heart breaker for a young Cowboy fan.

After getting over the way Landry was fired, I have not been a fan since I heard Switzer was hired. It is like JFK, the Challenger disaster, etc. I remember where I was when I heard Drunk Dale come on Channel 8 to announce the breaking news.

The good old days of football before the league became a social justice sounding board. I despised the Cowboys and was a Redskins fan during the George Allen years (over the hill gang), but who can ever forget those great Cowboy defenses.

Hic, I agree totally. No doubt it was time for Tom to be replaced, but Jerry muffed the changeover horribly - and I despised that. But after Jimmy started bringing back the trophies, I was okay - until Jerry's ego got in the way. When I heard that Jerry was bringing Barry in to coach, I threw away all my Cowboys caps and T-shirts. To this day I do not have a single item to identify the Dallas Cowboys.
And, IMO, the Cowboys will not get back to the Super Bowl as long as Jerry thinks he's the GM.

Saldi didn’t join the ‘Pokes until 1976 and I’m sure he never used a two-bar face mask.
Most likely that’s a pic circa 1971 (black shoes are a giveaway) which would make that #87 Billy Truax and -4 Tony Liscio.
    Super Bowl champs that year.
Lamentably (like many here), I stopped caring about the franchise about the time of the Switzer hire.

I think Big Tony was 72. But maybe not when he came back out of retirement

Liscio was actually #64 in his last year which was 1971..............Neely took over as starter but Liscio was listed as starter at LT for 5 games that year.

I was a died in the wool cowboys fan, but I stopped caring as much for the cowboys when Jerry got rid of Tom Landry the way he did. I started to really not care when Switzer was hired. I hate that he was there to win a super bowl with Jimmy Johnson's players.

    It is 6:30 and ....

    still.

If it helps your feelings at all (only if you hate Jerry more than Barry), Barry only took the job because Jones couldn't find anyone to work for him. It was a one year deal, and Switzer certainly didn't need the money. When Jones still couldn't find anyone in year two, Barry stuck it to him, as well as to the State of Oklahoma by buying the house in Highland Park, moving his voter registration and drivers license to Dallas. I'm not sure Jones isn't still paying Barry.

I'm not far from your pathway to Cowboy apathy. Jerry is the worst thing ever for fans but the best thing ever for the NFL and his bank account. I haven't paid attention to them for several years. Occasionally I'll stumble across a game, watch for maybe 5 minutes have something stupid happen and laugh, "Yep, that's Jerry's kids" then move on to something more entertaining.

    I understand completely !

Since the Jerry takeover, I hardly ever watch any cowboys games either. Much like you, I might be channel surfing and stop for a minute or two on a cowboys game until nausea sets in. I can only take so much. IMHO, almost anything else is much better to watch. :puke:
