That doesn't sound like the public persona Mack Brown engendered. Not that I am doubting the veracity of your statement, it just clashes with Mack's nice guy image.

The kid and his father wound up on my doorstep. After having met the father and heard some history, I still believe that the situation could have been handled differently, but I also can understand that Mack's tolerance with the helicopter father was far greater than mine.

I couldn't have a conversation with the kid without the father answering the questions. I wanted to know if the kid was at Texas for football or for an education. He was going to get his degree, and likely got to grad school his fifth year. There is always the likelihood of injuries to starters, but also will be new recruits coming in. What did he want.

When I made my first call to test his marketability, my friend told me that he knew the kid, had recruited him out of HS. Response, "Can we take the kid and Mack keep the father".

Maybe Mack had had enough of the family, I don't know, but it appears he could have handled it better.

How many times do I have to apologize to you? Yeah, I was emotional during all that – it was my son! You need to let this go.

We all have kids. The helicopter parents are a real problem. An apology is a great thing. But to those teachers and coaches who have to deal with it, it's hard for them to have any sympathy.

    bystander,

Godz is playing a joke. That father would NEVER post on this board much less have over 4,000. He wouldn't even speak to me when I was trying to help his son at his son's request and with the father's approval. I only got involved because of a mutual friend whose family have been BMDs.

Serious question: Godz, if you are that father, how's your buddy Ed's health? Saw him recently eating BBQ at Goode Company and he did not look good, although he said he was fine.

I've not been in your position but I've seen the helicoptering at my kids school. I don't know how teachers deal with it.

Good one Godz... you got me!

I much rather meet you than run into that father again, although I wouldn't recognize the guy.

The kid came out of HS as a 4 star with NFL asperations. He was a good kid. The father never said "thank you" for making those calls and lining up opportunities.

Sadly, these fathers have no idea what long term damage they are doing to their sons.

Perhaps the classic case was Todd Marinovich. SabreHorn may elaborate but let’s just say that this kid was immensely talented but his dad’s direction and meddling pretty much destroyed his life.

People can ggogle it also, but what I found most fascinating: "What's fascinating about Marinovich, a 6'4½", 212-pound lefthanded redhead, is that he is, in a real sense, America's first test-tube athlete. He has never eaten a Big Mac or an Oreo or a Ding Dong. When he went to birthday parties as a kid, he would take his own cake and ice cream to avoid sugar and refined white flour. He would eat homemade catsup, prepared with honey. He did consume beef but not the kind injected with hormones. He ate only unprocessed dairy products. He teethed on frozen kidney "

I believe that I read later that the above was embellished, though not far off the mark.

    Thanks for the explanation.
I may be naive but I want to still believe Mack was a good one who did care about the kid too.

    6721,

I'm sure, by and large, he did. Mack learned most everything he knows about recruiting and coaching from Barry. He learned to recruit without cheating when he came to Texas. Like most every coach, he had favorites, but that's human nature. Try as he may, no coach has ever cared more about his players (good or bad) than Barry. Mack learned that during his short time in Norman.

Maybe Mack had a bad day, maybe the kid's father pushed his buttons once too often, maybe the kid's HS coach pushed Mack's buttons, those things happen.

One of the first questions I asked someone high in Bellmont after MB was hired, received this response - "He is the most hard headed son of a ***** you'll ever meet". Mack proved that time and again. Still, he did the impossible in uniting the multiple factions within our fanbase, a fact that should be greater than his W-L record.

Is there a current list handy of the 2021 transfers TO The University of Texas?

ESPN made a show about this. Todd M and his father have reconciled and both together pursue their other passion—making art. Todd M’s work isn’t bad at all.

I met Todd while living in Utah. I can tell you that the SI story about him being Robo Quarterback was 100% BS. By his senior year in high school he was already into some very hard drugs probably ate at McDonalds more than I did. I never met Todd's dad, but I can tell you that Todd had no love for him.

Perhaps my memory is fading due to age but dont recall a lot of "buzz" around Moore as a linemen over the last few years and lord knows we needed some. If he has been here 3 years and no impact then good for him to find somewhere to play.

What I am saying is we can not afford to miss on any lineman. I am not trying to imply that he was an all American.

Misses are going to happen, 4'star players hit rate is about 50% for every two you take one is not going to pan out. It's that way in every program even Bama. Moore was a 3'star and a converted TE to OT.

Don't know why he didn't pan out but there is a reason he left Texas and picked ACU, I'm pretty sure no P5 program wanted him.

Keep in mind that both Connor Williams and Sam Cosmi were both converted TE and that was why we took a swing at Moore. Chalk it up to win some, lose some.

Another case of "grass is always greener." Or in this instance, Anthony Brown is the sure-fire starter for Oregon next year. I thought Shough looked pretty good for the Ducks in their limited season. Maybe our D always make Tech's QBs seems better than they are, but I'd put him a notch above Bowman. Having Cumbie there probably helps too.

Rumors are flying that Spencer Rattler is in the transfer Portal after his father chimed in about his sons options to go elsewhere. Is this possible?
