Vic during his press conference said a player caught covid while with family during the season. We can all confirm that it was Ebo and explains why she has looked a bit out of shape. Covid does affect players in that way so we can't fault her for that. Basketball aside, I'm just happy she is okay and has recovered.

San Antonio expected to host entire 2021 NCAA women's basketball tournament
Announcement expected as soon as Friday that San Antonio will host the entire tournament. San Antonio spokesman/spokeswoman said they expect espn to air every single game. Some of course will be on espn+, this gives Texas a great advantage as well as Baylor and A&M. Now all we have to do is gain that momentum needed to make a run in the tournament. Too early right now but this game Saturday will be a huge indicator on where this team is at mentally.

Just got an email about NCAA about the women's tournament for this year. It's going to be held "in and about" San Antonio. The blurb that matters to us:

Six championship rounds featuring 63 games will be played using the five venues and six courts in San Antonio, Austin and San Marcos, Texas, with the Alamodome hosting two of those courts. First-round play will take place March 21-22 at the Alamodome, Bill Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary's (Texas), Frank Erwin Center (Texas), University Events Center (Texas State) and the UTSA Convocation Center. Second-round play will shift entirely to venues in San Antonio, with the Alamodome, Bill Greehey Arena and the UTSA Convocation Center playing host on March 23-24. The championship will then shift to the Alamodome for all remaining rounds, with the Sweet 16 games played March 27-28, Elite Eight games held March 29-30 and the Women's Final Four conducted April 2 and 4.

I know It's game time but I just saw that the NY liberty traded the #1 draft pick. The Dallas wings now have the top two picks. We know the Liberty were looking for a big and many have said Collier will not go to the draft early if not the #1 pick. Wings likely will not go for Collier so that could be a huge development in terms of her coming back for another season.

Question is.. why would Collier feel like she needs to be the number one pick?

My point exactly! I guess it's just due to her confidence in herself. Now I have not heard that from her personally so I really can't say too much on it but if that is the case then I would attribute it to her confidence and holding herself to a higher standard.

Big news for the Baylor game on sunday...
Did Richard's took a fall in their game today and went back to the locker room with concussion symptoms. Her status is unknown for the game Sunday but she did return to the bench and seemed fine so I don't think Mulkey will hold her out Sunday.

Was scrolling through my Uverse guide for LHN tonight, and saw that the 2012 Texas @ A&M women's hoops game will be replayed at 10:30 PM Central on Saturday night. That has to be a first!

OU wins at West Virginia tonight, 72-71.

I wish we could have beaten WVU last Saturday night at home.

Earlier in the week, WVU only beat Kansas at home by 10 points. Their guard who went off for 30 points against us could only score 11 points against KU.

Looking ahead to the off-season, I can't imagine any other team needing the transfer portal gods more than we will.

Yes and I'm really hoping two players from Mississippi state miss their former coach. We also need some experienced guards because that's what helped Vic and his Mississippi state teams win so much. They had excellent guard play and we are lacking in that category a bit. I hope we add about 3-4 players from the portal to really solidify this team next season.

Things are going from bad to worse for Mississippi state as they have now lost 5 straight and the players just look upset.

It's so bad they turned the comments off on their Twitter because fans are so upset at the coaching staff. I'm just patiently waiting for the portal announcements or opt outs to begin as I am sure Vic and his staff are as well.

In media availability today, Vic is asked about Lambert and the possibility of her returning. He does a great job kind of avoiding the question but he the things he said it just seems like Lambert will not return next season. This is in no way confirmed I'm just saying it seemed like he was saying Lambert is ready to move on and get into coaching after 6 years playing college ball

Man I was hoping he brought some of his players with him. We didn't know about immediate eligibility at the time but had that been established I'm sure 2 or 3 would have followed him to TX.

Same here but the way things are going at mississippi state it's still a possibility many of his former players decide to join him. I think many are realizing just how great this staff is considering they were a top 5 team talent wise but are now at risk of not making the tournament. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for Carter and Jackson to enter the portal and I also really like true freshman Madison Hayes. Just me being selfish, I hope they enter the portal and join the Horns as it won't be a hard sell:hookem:

I hope Vic and his staff are ready to make a few phone calls because what's going on at mississippi state is getting worse. They lost bad to an 8-10 Missouri team and Rickea Jackson along with another starter were held out the first half and most of the 3rd quarter and based on comments from the coach, things didn't seem to get better as she just kept saying things like she wants whoever is ready to play or calling out some players for not being competitors. At the very least I do expect Rickea Jackson to enter the portal because she is not living up to the potential under their new coach. Keeping my fingers crossed for Jackson and Carter.

That makes the third time Rickea Jackson has not started... don't know what the reasons were the other two times but I'd say she's gone after this season. The question is to where? I'd love to have a center like Carter especially if Charli goes to the pros. I was also very impressed with two freshman guards for MSU last year Mingo-Young and Matharu. Mingo-Young is from Louisiana and Matharu is from DC.

Mingo-young was the other player who sat out with Rickea Jackson. I think it's because they have not bought into what Nikki is doing. Her comments just led me to that conclusion. There is definitely a disconnect between her and some of the players. She seems to have to coach attitude and not skills as Carter has little control over her emotions which led to some talking and unnecessary physical plays on her part. I've really been impressed with Matharu this year as she has been the only consistent player on the team. Would be a great backup or starter but I really can't blame Mississippi states downfall on Nikki as you can see the players tend to have bad attitudes and question what she does. I'll still take Jackson, Carter, and Matharu though but some attitudes have to be fixed.

I've watched Mississippi State closely for several years as they were my team to root for (because of the job Schaefer and his staff had done) aside from UT. I never noticed those attitude problems while Vic and Co were there.

Which is exactly why I say the are leaving. When Vic was there these problems never happened because they know if you don't buy in then you're not going to play and his teams are still going to win. I think now the players are at the "I don't care" stage where they can get away with that because they are losing regardless of who plays. Hopefully they come to Texas and get back on track because what I saw out of Carter yesterday was unacceptable and really gives a bad look.

I haven’t been following MSU this season. Can you summarize what’s been happening? Just excessive losses or has there been open hostility between players and/or coaches?

Personally, I would like Vic to start from scratch here with the rebuild. He's off to a good start with next years class. I'm not interested in taking players with an "I don't care" stage. We've seen too many players around here lately in the past few years with that attitude. That's the worst part about the transfer portal....players can act like asses and know other teams will come begging.

There's so many unknowns right now for Texas including players on the current roster that may transfer out that it's hard to definitively say what he should do. But if there's a talented transfer out there, especially with 2 or more years of eligibility I would take them. Although if Rickea Jackson does transfer I think it will probably be somewhere a little closer to home like Louisville. When a coach leaves for another program you usually don't see players that end up transferring following that coach like in softball or other sports.

I'm perfectly okay if that's how it goes also, but I wouldn't turn down helpful transfers. I'd especially welcome those who know what it's like to play for me (if I were Vic) and with whom I've already established rapport with. There's at least one player on our current roster who I don't think is a problem, but perhaps just doesn't flourish under Schaefer's style of coaching. I think maybe the same thing can be said for some of the players that we're talking about at Mississippi State. Sometimes things just aren't a good fit.
