Surprised Maalik is 63 since he is the #2 QB behind Ewers and is a 5 star. Whatever.

It doesn’t take a genius to see his arm is like 6*. So that leaves character and football knowledge. For the former, he is apparently a really good kid, so no issue there. For the latter, he just needs more playing time, plus paired with Sark he is going to get top notch direction.

Murphy more than passes the eyeball test. Anyone who can’t see his talent is blind

I do agree that it seems odd for the #2 QB to "only" be #63. Just for perspective, even listing him at #63, given his lack of playing time, isn't indicating that these people don't see Maalik's talent. That's still a high ranking. Ewers looks pretty plum sitting up there at #1, though.

On the body of Ewers work that I have seen (two playoff games) I just do not see him being the top QB for 2022. What I see is a lot of the "Dodge" system much like the Pirate's Tceh teams. While the same can be said about Klubnik, he did win the game rather convincingly.

This may be a case of chasing Ewers basically for recruiting buzz and not what can be expected on the field. Sark's *** in on the line so give him space to work with.

while I understand the need to get top talent to commit, who will be better with regard to these 3 will be unknown until they prove it in the collage games and beyond. Memories of Garrett Gilbert.

Maalik is imposing, he is really a big dude who will have no problem taking a hit. He has the strongest Arm I've seen in a QB since Trevor Lawrence was a high schooler. He has great presents in the huddle, a true leader. He is an incredible accurate passer on every level, short, medium and deep passes. I don't care where the gurus have him ranked the kid is a future star.

Sark will work his magic and he will be a great QB for Texas. I'm extremely happy to have him and feel like he will be right up there with Vince.

I'm looking forward to seeing him compete in Elite 11 camp.

IT. said this morning that Texas is gaining steam with WR Jordan Hudson and he should be labeled a "soft commit" to OU right now.

The staff is feeling good about their chances to flip him, and his mother is a fan of UT. Guess we're going after more than 4-5 at the position.

    Jordan Hudson, Garland, Wide Receiver

Maalik is not the "#2 QB" on that list. The kid from Bridgeland is ranked ahead of him. He has been destined to Brazos County since birth.

Go to youtube and look up Maalik Murphy, there is video of him when he was 12 years old. That is how long this kid has been on the radar of football scouts. He has been preparing to be a QB for a very long time, and he is a better QB and athlete at 12 than I ever was at any age. Here are a couple of his videos there are a few more to check out.

Since you were responding to me, maybe you thought I had some criticism of Sark. Not at all. Ewers isn’t even available to us, as far as we know, and to pull a 5* rabbit out of the hat from California is pretty amazing. Maalik may end up being preferable or not to Ewers, but that’s not really the point. He’s 5 stars better than no Maalik at all. That is important not only because he may actually turn out to be an all-American or whatever, but right now we really need the symbolism of landing players like that, even though the onfield effects will only be later.

    Comparing Murphy to Ewers...

Ewers is so highly rated for a reason. He’s that good. My understanding is that he was injured for much of 2020.

Based on the eye test, Murphy is something special but we will have to see if it translates on the field, this fall. But he is very impressive. Aside from his almost astounding arm strength and accuracy, he has about as stout a base as I can remember in a QB. Frankly, he’s built like a DL. I don’t ever remember seeing a player like him. (I will concede that this might be an overstatement.) Add in what appears to be a positive demeanor and I think we are looking at what might be a very special player.

I just watched Owen's video for the second time today. Shades of Earl, Ricky, and Fozzy Whittaker rolled into one complete RB.

Earl, Ricky, and Herschel all carried 30-40 more pounds than this guy. Maybe Owens is more Tony Dorsett (ish)—of course he’s not an NFL HOF as of yet

Here I will give my comparative critique between Maalik Murphy and Quin Ewers

    1. Arm Strengeth - Equal, I've seen film of both making 70+ yard throws.
    2. Passing touch - Equal, both have really good touch and equally good feel for when to zip it and when to add a little air.
    3. Passing tree - it should go without saying both guys can make every throw in the passing tree even the deep fade and the deep out, the two throws wich every QB is judged by.
    4. Release - Ewers has the fastest release I've seen from a QB in a very long time. I'd rate him right up there with Trevor Lawrence who was the best prospect at the time since Payton Manning. I've watched Murphy's video and his throwing motion is long and it slows his release, if he an fix that he might be right up there with Ewers.
    5. Leadership - hard to judge but both guys have the respect of a ton of recruits.
    6. College football ready - This is where Murphy surpasses Ewers who needs time in the weight room before he can handle a hit from a college level defensive player.
    7. Mobility - Ewers is actually shown on film to be more mobile than Murphy. Murphy has the ability to move in the pocket and get time and he can take off, but Ewers has the kind of Mobility we associate with Colt McCoy.
Overall I'd give Ewers a slight edge on Murphy but I can easily see Murphy being just as successful and being much more desirable to the NFL than Ewers because of his size and ability to absorb a hit.
