    From the article:

Student Jenna Rifai tells the Valpo Torch that as a Muslim, crowds cheering the mascot made her uncomfortable. "It’s like, in their minds do they accept me? Are they anti-Muslim?" she says.

I hate to see what happens when she goes to Bible class at this Lutheran university...

“Valpo is a faith-based institution and we want to make sure our mascot is in alignment with our beliefs and speaks to the core values of the Lutheran ethos rather than being a symbol of division.”

The president of the university said this. The president of a Lutheran university said this. Without blinking.

My friends, it's time to abort. We've gone too far.

Also I don't believe Jenna actually said this. Or believes it. Did she crawl out of a hole yesterday after 800 years? Is she American? Did she not know what school she applied to? I have lots of questions for Ms. Jenna.

One faction of the Lutheran church has been quasi-Christian for decades.

^That link is well worth reading - gave me an understanding (or at least partial understanding) of the wind power issue. Recommend that article.

Perhaps the three of us could suggest "Muslims" as their new mascot. It
    • goes with a "faith-based institution" as the president suggests
    • shows quasi-Christian status over total-Christian status
    • offsets almost 70 years of support for one side of the Crusades

How quasi do you have to be to say something as stupid as this? Keep turning that cheek Mr President till you're choking on something I can't say here.

That wild eyed leftist lunatic Joe Biden just declared Texas a disaster area. Now we’ll be forced to take that darn federal disaster $ to dig ourselves out from the snow and ice. Darn him. :smh:

Anyone else see the irony in a Lutheran institution calling themselves the Crusaders. How about the Inquisitors, the Nuns, or the Popes for a new mascot?

You're right. My mom's family is Lutheran. Not exactly a Crusader history. How about the Luthers?

If you deny substitutionary atonement, it is a much lesser thing to be embarrassed by a mascot.

50 years from now, humans will be back living in caves and huts, throwing sticks at animals for food. Liberals will be happy.
I will be dead so I will not care.

"Just found out 87 is divisible by 29,” she wrote in a text overlay. “What the f***."

Some of the responses were just as good --

“Not me going to put it into my calculator bc i didn’t believe you."

    “This feels illegal.”

    “My life is a lie.”

“The fact that it’s true … it makes me uncomfortable.”

“People are lying when they say 7 x 8 = 56 like how is it that big.”

“Wait until you hear about 51 being divided by 17.”

You do realize Abbott asked Biden to declare Texas a disaster. Biden didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart.
Governors have to ask for it.

Certainly not lost, but Catholics and Protestants have made up since the Reformation. "Crusader" is now viewed as a general Christian concept. Plenty of Protestant schools using the Crusader mascot like as Mary Hardin-Baylor.

In defense of a Lutheran institution using it, well, Martin Luther was a Catholic priest first! ;)

Ha! He (Luther) certainly was, and initially at least never wanted to split off from the Catholic Church--just to reform some obscene practices. This wasn't far from the Borgia era, I think. Also, it was the Northern Crusades that resulted in the conversion of the Baltic peoples--including the Northeast Germans, Polish, Lithuanians, etc. Those crusades aren't as well known as the sacking of Constantinople (a terribly disgraceful act), the taking of Acre and Jerusalem, the loss of Jerusalem, etc.

I'm for Christian unity myself. But I do find the Lutheran/Crusader irony funny. Read around a bit, and you'll find that some folks on these boards act as if they want to restart the 30 years war.

I just looked it up - Luther's 1520 excommunication still stands with the Catholic Church. WHAT! Now, I'm ready to go to war against them.

    I kid. I kid.

I think there were once three simultaneous popes. They all excommunicated each other.
