    I respect your opinion,
I won't argue your point, but as an alumnus I get irritated when I think people are taking their bashing too far of anything in regards to UT. I fully realize that most of the over the top bashers are probably Aggie or Sooner trolls or just fans who never attended the greatest University on earth.

Fair enough, However, as an alumnus, I get irritated when my university seems content to accept being the 4th best hoops team in the state of Texas. We have had 6 years of this crap, enough.

Look at his demonstrative actions when the ball is in play. He is over there yelling and waving his arms and no one on the floor is paying him any attention.

wouldn't surprise me a bit to see CDC pull the plug. I mean he understands the importance of competing for championships instead of playing for fun which is what we seem to be doing. He did pull Herman.

    Gontex,

Chris pulled the plug on Herman because Herman was a political embarrassment, with NO friends in any corner. Keeping Herman may well have cost the department as much as $150 million for just 2021. Herman knew he was fired after the OU game - go back and watch his mannerisms and demeanor during press conferences. Chris had to find a suitable replacement to reignite the fire and open the checkbooks.

Now he is forced to look for a basketball coach to fill the Moody Center and keep it full. Where is that person? Is there anyone available? When will Moody be available? Like football, lots of politics to be played, lots of egos to be stroked.

I am confident that Chris has this under control, and will make us all happy even if it means another year of incompetence. After all, if Sarkisian has a really good year, who will notice basketball anyway?

Maybe they have been paying attention. Maybe the players have been for the years he’s been here.
I have a hard time blaming our current players for years of the same old stuff.

Hard to see a scenario where Shaka isn't back next year regardless of how season plays out. Unless a better option presents itself CDC has shown he doesn't run from coaches he has he runs to coaches he wants.

Seen what's all over the news today in regards to UT?

The same **** that was all over the news last July & August. It was ******** then, and it's ******** now. The sooner the trouble makers are gone, the sooner the Aggies will stop counting the Longhorn money that will be headed their way, as well as the exodus of legacy students going to Fort Worth & Highland Park.

But the question is whether the BMD's are as motivated as CDC because that's what will decide this. I'm going to say they are more focused on finishing the south endzone than spending to buy out Shaka.

Heck, maybe we win out and make a little noise in the tourney which would settle some dust. Doesn't change my opinion on his coaching abilities but that would get him into his last year for sure. I'm fairly certain next year will be a shitshow losing 5 seniors and probably Greg Brown. Who knows who else might leave knowing what looms ahead. That will seal the deal.

And now we’re the defending Big 12 Champions!!!!

Shaka’s detractors have been proven WRONG. We’re lucky to have him.

This would be an ideal time to lock him into a long term contract, lest he bolt for the NBA.

So, we back doored into the final by not having to play KU. That semi final advance has an asterisk. But we beat OSU fair and square and the Conf. Title is much deserved. This team has moxy and grit and they’re competing well. I think Shaka will get to the sweet 16 with this bunch.

But next year is a brand new slate. This season will be history. Losing who we lose, this team is going to be very immature and Shaka isn’t going to get any farther than what he will accomplish this year, before his contract is up. I don’t see us buying him out. He’s bought time with this seasons accomplishments so I don’t see him going anywhere but I wouldn’t go so far as to say we’re lucky to have him. He was never the right hire for our program.

"NEVER" will be the ideal time to "lock him into a longterm contract". His present contract allowed him to be grossly overpaid, including this year. It also pays him a bonus for winning the Big XII Tournament.

Why lock him in? Nobody is coming after him. He'll last in the NBA for one season, if that, but we shall never know because they aren't on "line 1".

He is to be congratulated for a job well done this week, and best wishes for his next bonus check in the coming weeks.

Shaka is nearly a perfect coach for this program.

And he’s already achieved what Barnes failed at his entire tenure here—winning the Big 12. He’s a winner. We were looking for a step up from Barnes, and we found it. Championships don’t lie. And Shaka will usher in a new Longhorn era at the Moody Center soon.

He did not win the BIG 12, he won the Big 12 tournament for the auto bide in the real tournament. I am glad Smart won the tournamentm but it has little meaning anymore unless you are playing to get into the tournament or improve your seeding. Baylor is still a 1 seed. When Barnes got to the final 4, they lost the first games of the tournament. Barnes won the Big 12 his first year, something Smart will never do.

Barnes also won NCAA tourney games, Shanka has yet to win his first after 5 complete years. This year, we will see.

I'll give you Shaka did a pretty good job last night, but it was 1 game. But every independent sports article I've read has an asterisk by Texas pointing out, they got a free pass past KU and played the 5 seed, not the 1 seed. How would Barnes do under those same variables?

Maybe you can answer a couple of questions. Why did it take the whole season for Shaka to figure out Brown is a net negative when you balance his great plays with the totally mindless ones? And that was only because of Browns tantrum. Why did it take the whole season to use Sims more effectively? Why did it take the whole season to figure out working the ball inside is a much better strategy than jacking up 3's all night when they're not falling?

In any sport you play who is on the schedule. When the Kansas players decided to go out and came back with positive tests what was Texas supposed to do? When oSu beat Baylor what was Texas supposed to do?

Texas beat Kansas twice during the season so what were the chances that Kansas, with an already short bench, could have hung with Texas in Kansas City?

    * Texas swept Kansas in the regular season including a beat down of historic proportions in Lawrence (pretty impressive asterisk in my book)

The key is that he did figure it out by the end of the season just before the tournament. He coached a good game last night and out coached OSU. Give him credit. Decisions regarding players in the last five minutes was masterful. Hope he keeps it up. Shaka beat a good team last night. He beat KU twice and was denied the chance to be one of the very few teams to beat KU three times in one year by KU's own selfishness and lack of discipline.
Do you think Alabama cares about a Covid *? Hell, did Sabin do anything different, just went out and got ready. He didn't quarantine for 3 weeks when he got Covid.

Who cares why the quitters quit? That's on them not on the team that showed up.

I'm just pointing out how multiple independent sports journalists see it. I agree you can only play the teams on your schedule. They also point out that Texas had fresh legs from a day of rest, while okie lite had tires legs. I do think there's some validity to that as I can remember when I was a student I was always a step slower the day after a tough workout of any kind. Or course now it's a whole week.

Hats off to Texas for winning the b12 tourney. First one for us. Thought it was funny to listen to the interview with coleman after the game. He was asked how did he turn in a record performance and his response was focus. Really wish the follow up question would have been why werent you focused in all the other games? Great win for UT, lets see if they can do better than 1 and done in the real tourney.

So you go by how the sports journalists see it, huh.

Well last night, in the Tech game, and in plenty of other games, the announcers repeatedly talk about what a great coach Shaka Smart is. So the independent sports journalists show that Shaka is an excellent coach, and we’re lucky to have him. And the Naismith people named Shaka as a Top 15 coach. I rejoice in our victories, and await more. Like I said, we win the Conference tourney, and at a minimum make the Sweet Sixteen, but probably the Final Four with a possible National Championship.

Kansas is not Kansas this year. Neither is Arizona, Michigan State, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina. The (covid) point this season is that, while teams like Texas are benefitting from staying away from covid, it's not "reality", so when people are jumping up and down about winning the big 12 tournament, it's sort of a "well ok" when there's so many factors. Texas lucked into not having to go to Waco, and then got it handed to them at home by Baylor. Kansas gets covid so there's a "win" without effort. I really do hope that a winning by playing champion is crowned this March Madness, because it's going to be weird if Baylor or Gonzaga (et al) gets knocked out because of covid and not for actually playing a game.

So the announcers are praising a person of color for his imaginary accomplishments. This season is an aberration. You can't watch ESPN and not see a pep rally for a minority coach or a woman doing this or that. Politics. And there's an organization VOTING for Shaka? Well there you have it, I'd rather win a vote than a game any day. I'll eat crow when Texas gets to the Elite Eight. Anything else and Rick Barnes could do it and did do it for a while here. Rick's also in the tournament with Tennessee. Let's see who makes it farther. Shaka and Rick have the same Final Four credentials but Shaka hasn't caught up yet to carry Rick's clipboard. Proof will be in the pudding. The fun part will be that Shaka gets some award for being a great coach this year but doesn't make it past the Sweet Sixteen with a veteran team and solid guard play.
