Bobby Micho! I think it was him in the BlowU game. Laying out for a pass downfield, catches it with 2 fingers with a Landthief player on his back. Photo made front page of the Dallas paper next morning. Amazing catch.

Pretty much completely disagree with this assessment. It’s like Mack said (featured on the Rose Bowl broadcast), to paraphrase, when they stopped trying to change him and let Vince be Vince, he prospered. His mechanics didn’t matter. He could make all the throws, and he was unstoppable throwing on the run. Mechanics only matter in a beauty contest kind of way, and in the Combine. (How has that worked out for about 50% of the QBs selected?)

Vince washed out in the League because of many factors — maturity, distractions and a coach that likely wanted him to fail — and not because of his skill set.

    Almost exactly what I said.

Mechanics matters for consistency and accuracy.

Remind me again, what is the biggest argument against Texas right now? Oh yes, it's that we aren't putting guys into the NFL, and especially 1st round picks. I'm done talking about Vince.

Maalik Murphy has a strong arm, he has had some amazing coaching and it shows in his mechanics. When you have good mechanics you are much more of a consistent passer and you get a lot less of your passes batted down. He has everything it takes to be a high 1st round NFL draft pick.

Mechanics matters to those in the NFL, so if we want success in the NFL draft we have to give them what they want. That will in turn get us more 5'star recruits which will lead to better football on the field.

    Recruiting please

Man I'm sick and tired of these "who's better than who and what's greater than what here's my opinion but it's fact and I'm right posts".
Dragging down the quality of this board.
Fits all the stereotypes of joe fans (sorry Joe) on message boards.
Sheldon, Why don't you go make a thread on "In the Stands" and take all this pompous and highly subjective chatter there?

And anyone who has been here awhile knows I don't normally talk this way, but this schtick is getting old fast.

As I already said, I'm done talking about past players. Maalik is the here and now, he is a recruit and this is a very good place to talk about a current recruit. Do you agree?

He is the bell cow for this class and we should all be excited about him. This young man oozes talent. He is equally as excited to be a Texas Longhorn, that means something.

It isn't talk of Maalik I'm referring to....obviously.
It is (nearly) everything else...all the time.

The difficulty is that you both explicitly say and strongly imply some opinions that are dubious at best, or flatly wrong, with the added attitude of certainty, but then run away and say “now I’m done talking about it.”

I won’t even bother to look it up, but I believe that in his last year here, Vince had the highest passer rating in the nation. In addition to being probably the best RB in the country. He completed game winning or clutch passes against Ohio State, OU, USC, and many others. His running talent gave him more space and extended plays, and his threat to run took a DB out of coverage, so his windows were wider, but with Vince we had a very good passing game. So, not any QB ever at the college level was 10x as good as Vince as a passer. As a pro, he was OROY, pro bowl, took a team to the playoffs, and won 30 NFL games to about 17 losses or so. Without looking, I suspect his pro career far surpassed Colt McCoy’s, even though it fell far, far short of his potential. Nothing about Vince is what is, or was, wrong with our program.
Okay, now we can be done talking about Vince Young.

As I said, I'm done talking about Vince, you can convince yourself he was a great passer, I've watched every game he played and every video made of him, over and over. I love them, but he was a horrible passer. I don't know how else to say it and I did acknowledge his high completion percentage so restating the obvious doesn't help your argument.

this is getting like the movie Bull Durham with Vince playing the part of the pitcher. Move on people, he has been gone for 15 years, right now we have a quarterback committed who looks like Cam Newton not Vince Young.

Excellent points!! Not really sure why anyone is so wrapped up on 10 years ago. Vince was great, Colt was great and hope that our current group can meet that level.

Vince, for being a horrible passer, sure had a lot of production passing the ball. Maybe you expect all our QBS be Tom Brady.

Unbelievable!! Really, isn't this the TEXAS recruiting board or is it 'my daddy is faster than yours?' I bet Coach would be very impressed! There was a recent time this would not be tolerated

    Recruiting please (thanks RH2)

I blame JoeFan for our lack of focusness on this thread. He needs to understand that we have the attention span of gnats and when he fails to feed us breaking recruiting news incessantly, we are easily distracted.

    :idk:

Report: Texas added former five-star linebacker Ben Davis
According to Inside Texas, Ben Davis has transferred to Texas and joined Steve Sarkisian’s roster. A former five-star recruit, Davis joins LSU‘s Ray Thornton and Notre Dame‘s Ovie Oghoufo as new additions at the Jack position.

Davis spent five years in Tuscaloosa, redshirting his freshman year in 2016. He appeared in 23 games and recorded eight tackles, one sack, and one pass breakup. Here is Inside Texas’ breakdown of Davis:

Over the weekend, Steve Sarkisian’s staff added yet another outside linebacker transfer to the roster. This time it was a former 5-star recruit, Alabama “Jack” linebacker Ben Davis, a 6-foot-4, 250-pounder. Davis never cracked the top of the depth chart in Tuscaloosa but was solid for the Tide in mop-up duty as a boundary 9-technique who could rush the edge, stunt, or drop into coverage.

OrangeBloods reported back in February that Davis was “taking his time” with his transfer decision. Over a dozen schools have shown interest in him since entering the portal on Feb. 15.

I am a bit surprised/concerned by out of state offers for D linemen and no commitments from offensive line (perhaps I missed it). Is it too early to panic or is our trend of struggling with the big men in state continuing (I fully realize that we have a couple of outstanding guys on Dline already in house)?

No need to worry yet on the oline as none of the big fish have committed anywhere.

There really isn't much DT talent in state to pull from. I'm pretty sure we have offered all the good instate guys. Also the best in state guy was Bear Alexander and he committed to Georgia.

It is a little disconcerting that we are slow on landing lineman. This may have to play out throughout the season. More worrisome is that bama is making Campbell their #1 OL target.
They also have offered RB Jamarion Miller of Tyler Legacy. Also at this time its a bama UT battle for WR Coleman.
Not expecting much to happen recruiting wise until later in the Spring and into Summer and most of the big name dogs not until the first signing date or Dec-Jan.
But this coaching staff isn't fooling around so I would expect some surprises along the way.

All I'll say is VYs passer rating his last year was in the top 2 or 3 in the nation.

We are going to go literally head to head with satan err saban for a number of recruits. That is certainly going to test our coaching staff. Sark only has a a bit of a rep, his spiel and a good recruiting team. Bama has satan err saban and a decade and a half of championship ball.
We're going to lose some of these battles but we're going to win some that are going to wow us.
