As of 2019 the US was only the 4th best in income inequality in the world. I'm sure we can do better. Surprisingly, some of those Democratic Socialist countries in Skandinavia are even more disparate than us. Russia isn't a surprise given their oligarchy albeit they are only a smidge ahead of the US.

Because we don't want to divulge that anyone, regardless of beginnings, can change their socioeconomic status if they're willing to put forth the effort. That would be racist.

Capitalism creates income inequality because some want to work and take risk while others don’t. It’s a choice.

Ultimately, income inequality isn't a very good measure to consider when judging the fairness of an economy. Frankly, the main reason some fucus on it is that doing so almost invariably leads to Marxism or some kind of command economy. You can't force income equality without a very powerful central government and a disregard of private property rights.

I think it's smarter and more just to look at the opportunities available to those at the bottom. Do they have access to a quality education that gives them marketable skills? Is the government doing things that inflate the prices of the basics of life such as food, housing, clothing, healthcare, etc? When people at the bottom succeed, is the government letting them keep what they acquire to incentivize more of the same?

Another thing about capitalism. Those at the top still don't benefit from their production as much as society, but they only make it to the top by making life better for everyone else. Profit is the act of increasing existing value.

Looked up that news story. I retract my earlier comment about this week's cancellation of the publication of six Suess books as step 1. Mike Curato, Mo Willems and Lisa Yee getting the Children's Literature Festival canceled and mural edited at the Dr. Seuss Museum back in 2017 was step 1. Canceling the books is step 2! I see from the articles in 2017 what book to target for step 3, The Cat in the Hat. That cat's apparently in blackface...

Is the Cat in the Hat Racist? Read Across America Shifts Away From Dr. Seuss and Toward Diverse Books | School Library Journal

I wonder if Andy Yee from above every got that mural. I'm guessing no as Curato, Willems and Lisa Yee would just change their complaints to both the restaurateur and Dr. Seuss Enterprises for allowing the Chinese image to exist. I'd love to see white Mo Willems explain to Asian-American Andy Yee how Andy is hurting Asians by displaying the mural in one of his restaurants.

Sadly, with every one of these ridiculous "examples" of racist behavior, my empathy index is numbed 1-5% on legitimate examples of racism.
I'm not proud of that, but, as Pollyanna once said,"if you look for the bad in people,
    you will surely find it."
People need to quit searching out, with a microscope, things that are racist. Take off the lens in your eyes that sees racism in anything you wish. Stop looking for racism.
    Move on.
Also, I think Pollyanna actually said, "if you look for the good" in people, you will surely find it. but it works both ways. :hookem:

After Floyd, folks were posting articles about racism from the 1920’s on Twitter and people were commenting like it was happening today.

That’s what gets me about the total mess we find ourselves in today mc. The attitude is what happened 50-100 years ago is happening today. I just don’t appreciate where that makes any productive sense.

Hahahaha, now it’s the cartoon character Speedy Gonzales, and I hear Pepe LaPue too! Ya know I remember Pat Boone sang a song about Speedy Gonzales, guess he’s going to be on the list too. Man, talk about truth stranger than fiction - we’re here.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

Pepe LaPue was a serial sexual harasser. Since he failed to identify as a Democrat, he must be extinguished.

Best I can tell the situation is similar to when they banned public smoking. After regular exposure to smoke in a restaurant or bar, once the smoke was removed, people became more sensitive to it though there is a lot less smoking in public now. And since there is not enough current supply, they have to look to the past to find it.

One of my very best friends and roommates from 30 years ago is Hispanic and I called him Speedy Gonzales. He was so quick with a basketball he could run circles around me. He thought it was hilarious, but I suppose those woke white liberals will put him in his place soon for not being smart enough to realize how racist I was being.

Growing up in El Paso I knew many “Speedy” Gonzales’s. In fact many named Gonzales. No one gave a rats a** about it. Oh crap now I’ve done it, insulted the rat.

Back when Deez, Jr. was a baby I bought a bunch of the Looney Tunes cartoons on DVD (rather than through an online service). I'm glad I did.

I worked for the Cherokee Nation for a time. Their people have been fighting giving the Freedmen citizens citizenship. It's a big legal issue that they need to work out. The down side is removing Indian citizenship based on race against your original constitution could bring about blowback, impacting federal funds. A VERY huge level of blowback. An old guy there who grew up in Tulsa gave me this parable. "You know, when I was growing up we had Sambo's, Frito Bandito, and 'Ugh, you need-um tire'. Over time each one was cycled out because of cultural growth and sensitivity. The last one to hang around was 'ugh, you need-um tire'. We need to remember that we were the last ones to be recognized and that Sambo's was the first one".

A critical race theory lawsuit has been filed against a Nevada public charter school. Link. Read the complaint linked below. If the allegations are true, this is massively ****** up and should trigger a litigation jihad. Basically every school that adopts this kind of program should get sued. Initially, conservative lawyers should take them pro bono for no reason other than to beef up the numbers and get them in courts and into the public eye. If they become successful (and they should, which would make attorney's fees recoverable), they should start advertising for them like personal injury cases and just bury these schools in litigation until they can't function anymore until they dump this crap.

Meh. While there IS a definite increase versus when I ordered my 2000 F350 4x4 CrewCab, both in size and cost (mine spec'ed at $32K on the bottom line), I see the loss of the smaller Ranger-type trucks. The current Rangers and Tacomas ARE closer to the F-150...and cannot be ordered with a manual transmission.

If someone wants the current things, more power to them, even if they ARE spending almost twice as much on a vehicle as their parents likely spent on a house in the 70's. There will be a glut of the cheap used ones after #SlowJoe finishes jacking up gas prices...

There's a lot of Petro-masculinity going on where I live. I used to drive a Honda Ridgeline, small pickup that drives like a car, but is still functional as a truck. I used to haul an occasional bale of hay in it. It got totaled when I was rear ended by a kid texting while driving an old F-250.
