One last road game to make up for the game that got cancelled during Snovid. Come on, ladies. End B12 regular season play on a high note.
This game is a huge momentum booster heading into the big 12 tournament. If we needed to put together 4 full quarters of great play this is the game
We really need to put together a full game of playing well, which I really don't think we have done since we played at Iowa State.
This is the Celeste Taylor we all know and love to watch play! Defense is amazing along with great shots and my absolute favorite part.... FIGHTING OVER THOSE SCREENS
50% shooting. Great half. Hopefully turn it up even more in the 3rd quarter so we can rest the key players in the 4th.
Up 16 at half. Not much to dislike in this one, although hard to know what to take from it since the Frogs really do look like they're just going through the motions.
This game is difficult to watch after having seen the action of the SEC and ACC tournaments the past few days.
I just started to say that we didn't have a third quarter slump, when the fourth quarter slump began! Sooooo inconsistent!
Not sure what to think of this ending. Losing to Baylor, ok they really good. But losing at home to a lackluster Sooner squad and winning an uninspired contest vs a TCU team in a match that left me wondering "What if they hadn't sleep-walked the first 75% of the game"? Gotta keep reminding myself it's still Vic's first year and it was not a normal off-season leading into it.
Another season where we had been picked to finish second and here we sit at 5th. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m ready for a program that consistently lives up to its potential. I’m tired of doing less with more. I really do hope that Vic can deliver like he did at MSU.
It's the first season, I think you're getting ahead a bit. Considering what this team has been through I would say this was an overall successful season with the circumstances they have had. From not having a full team through half the season to losing Gaston to Warren being out a bunch and Ebo catching covid and having to sit out. What this team has accomplished defensively is pretty amazing and besides, we are two games behind 2nd place in the big 12 so I would say that's pretty good not just for us but it means the big 12 Is becoming more competitive. Believe me this staff won't have any problems having the same success they had at Mississippi state heck, they probably will have more. A top 4 recruiting class in the first year I would say is pretty impressive.
Trust me we didn't do less with more THIS year. Quite the opposite actually. The culture hangover this season has been real, but that will improve as the team gets rebuilt. Coach Conradt tried to tell y'all...
Same story every year. Injuries. Slumps. Transfers etc. My point, which I clearly failed to make, was that we were the preseason pick for #2 in the conference... we’ve been in that position many times and failed to reach that potential. I’m ready for the reality to match the hype. I’m ready to start in the top 25, slowly work our way to the top 10 and top 5 and then stick it to win it. Not a knock on Vic. He gets a pass, like any new coach, in order to give him time to build his program rather than fix someone else’s. We are just long overdue. Maybe this feeling only applies to us “old farts” who remember Jody getting back to the Final Four then falling out of the tournament all together, then the GG hype that never materialized beyond the one and done post seasons, then Karen’s amazing one magical post season of Elite 8 never to return there again and now Vic. For some of us, the program has been in a post-season pandemic that has lasted 15+ years. I hope Vic is the vaccine.
The team, coaching, and conf this year was pretty much meh. There isn't great overall talent on the team but I was expecting Vic to bring more to the table in terms of x's and o's. IMO Texas has a souped up version of the same model car that they had before. One where they're going to have to out talent/athlete the opposing teams in order to win.
I'm right there with you. There's a reason most coaches ask for a five year contract, it takes a few years to rebuild. I expect us to be much closer to where we want to be in a couple of years... maybe next year depending on rule changes and transfers.
I opt for the "next year" scenario...we've been in a constant state of rebuilding. A few more years of that and I'll be in the grave!
Sometimes pre-season rankings are just flat out wrong. I guess it all depends on your individual expectations. Personally, I was surprised we were predicted to finish second in the Big 12 knowing that ISU, WVU, and OSU always field solid teams. I thought third or fourth was more realistic for us. Nationally, I thought our ceiling was Sweet 16 if breaks fell our way. Not only do we have a new coaching staff, but have 8 new players who had never played in a Longhorns uniform before, and some of our returning players had never really been starters. And, Vic inherited a team where 4 departing seniors (Joyner, Sug, Lashann, and Jada) had played the majority of minutes the prior season. If you think back to Gail's first year at Texas, we received a #8 seed in the NCAA tourney. In Karen's first year at Texas, we had a losing record and no post-season invite. Like everyone, it would have been great to see how we'd have done with a healthy front court of Elyssa Coleman, DeYona Gaston, and Lauren Ebo for the entire season; perhaps their availability would have resulted in different results against Tech and OU. Granted, a lot of our opponents also had to deal with injuries. Our 2021 recruiting class definitely gives me optimism for the future. Next season, if we don't finish at least second in the conference (barring major attrition or injuries), I will be very disappointed.
I a I agree with Mooo. None of these girls had played Vic's system before and, as Mooo said, most hadn't started before. If you look at the progression of the season he (mostly) went from "we can't play defense" to "I'm proud of the way we're playing defense and we just need to get our shots to fall". In fact, in the TCU game, we shot extremely well early on while building our 20 point lead. Then, we went into "preserve the lead" mode and forgot how to shoot. Fortunately we were able to get our sh*t together at the end. This is a learning process and as Vic likes to point out, they're better every month they spend with each other. I think we're headed in the right direction.
